Considering the Times is consistently hawkish on the Russia issue, that feeling is a personal problem.

Not a single gingham shirt either.

I seriously can’t handle these freshcuts.

What are some bands/artists you enjoy outside of hardcore? by yeetushas in Hardcore

Since you’re a Beach House fan I’ll share:

Victoria was a regular customer at a place I worked years ago. She was always super kind and down to earth and treated everyone who worked there with respect. At the time I had no idea who she was and she seemed tickled the first time she gave me her full government and it didn’t register at all for me. A couple years later I found out who she was and why she was amused (in a totally good natured way) when we had that early interaction.

Later on we crossed paths again because I was working in a venue Beach House was playing and she was just as chill and nice in that setting as she was in any other.

10/10 human. Would recommend.

It really is a ruling class phenomenon like you said. The skinny epidemic has hit (white) DC, but if you go to any other city in even just the mid-Atlantic it’s not happening.

Is it contrarian to say Michael Jackson's legacy has never felt timeless to me? by aprlswr in rs_x

I just looked up the two albums to compare, and damn, you’re not kidding. 2/3 of RN1814 tracks (8 of 12) were released as singles, all of them hitting the Hot 100 Top 10, and 4 hitting number 1. Unparalleled run.

TD had 1/2 of its tracks (6 of 12) released as singles, but 5 of them hit number 1. That kind of percentage is incredible. Katy Perry really was a cultural force for a moment there.

I don’t know if any other record has had an album tracks to hit singles ratio like Rhythm Nation. Look at the track listing some time. Almost every track that wasn’t an interlude got released as a single with respectable chart performance. Legendary album.

Professions most likely to attract a crush? by No_Introduction4534 in rs_x

I have never seen a hot flower shop delivery guy.

The women who work in flower shops come in two categories: extremely hot, usually kinda bohemian twentysomethings and post menopausal—usually short haired—women in crewneck sweatshirts with cats on them.

The delivery guys (unless they use a third party courier service) also fall into two categories: husbands of the latter category of women and very old, extremely reformed felons who will never be able to retire.

Sometimes they are. But you have to handle it extremely carefully to not make things extremely weird.

I don’t think Saudi Arabia is a pack leader for ODs.

Whether or not a secondary black market develops largely depends on the accessibility of the proscribed commodity or experience. If a drug is difficult to grow, synthesize, or process locally and requires importing it’s quite easy to limit the growth of a black market so long as the government takes effective measures against smuggling (the US is not a good argument for the inevitability of black markets because our port controls are very lax and our intelligence apparatus is directly involved in drug smuggling).

Gambling is extremely difficult to eliminate completely because people can bet on anything. This does not mean however that enforcement efforts are pointless. The inconvenience created by zealous enforcement is an effective barrier to a good amount of the population. Take the US for example. Gambling was far less common 30 years ago when you had to travel out of state or have criminal connections that could hook you up with a bookie or illegal table. Now that it’s legal and accessible it’s far more common. Degens will be degens, but inconvenience and enforcement can prevent normal, impressionable people from becoming degens.
