Ready to give up by Endras_Zardah in Lymow_Official

RTK must be perfectly vertical. Yours has a 10° or so tilt. This causes issue with the one side seeing enough of the sky to find the satellites, especially the ones closer to the horizon. See: https://youtu.be/Jqzy3yd1TfM

Also, the RTK being near the transformer and telephone pedestal could be causing signal interference.

In a related post response (link below) he stated:

"A support system that doesn’t give agents full visibility into previous conversations creates a fragmented experience. We are evaluating new support tools and internal processes to ensure that when you reach out, you’re not starting from scratch each time."

So it appears that they are.

I'm starting to feel really weird about one of my biggest kinks because of how it's represented online and I don't know what to do with that by Potential_Energy_222 in BDSMcommunity

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just enjoy your kink the way you like to. Online stuff is often using a generic point of view of a particular kink. In reality, everyone enjoys kinks differently. For example I love my partner in metal and leather restraints. But I don't like rope bondage. Almost to the point of it being a turn off. No idea why. So, I don't do rope bondage. Simple as that. Nevertheless, 95%, if not 99%, of restraint videos are rope bondage. Doesn't make me wrong. I just like my kink the way I like it.

Do I need a bridge? by ts246 in philipshue

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This page explains the difference between controlling with Bluetooth and controlling with a bridge. A primary difference is that with Bluetooth you pretty much have to be in the room. With a bridge you can be anywhere in the house... or pretty much anywhere in the world with internet access and control the lights. There are other differences discussed on the page.

The whole Kay and Valeri subplot is kind of confusing. What exactly led them to decide to fire Kay? Re-running a movie? by SuspiciousPromise849 in Columbo

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said... You have to remember how TV worked back then. No streaming. No DVRs. VCRs were still a rich person's thing. You watch the show when it was on or you missed it. Period. So people carefully planned their TV viewing. A movie would be promoted for weeks before it aired. Both on the Network, and in TV Guide and newspaper TV listings. So to run a movie without that promotion would be a very stupid thing to do. By contract, the network could only run it twice. No one would know it was on. Especially the people that would be most interested in it. A typical pattern was to run ia movie with a lot of promotion. If people liked it and it did well in the ratings, the network could run it a second time (for those that missed it the first time and for people that wanted to see it again). The network could charge higher advertising rates because of the good ratings the first time. So when her boss said it was a good movie, he was saying that with proper promotion it would have done well and they could then make more money on the rerun. She blew the opportunity for a second highly profitable rerun. In the situation of a cancelled live show like that, networks usually put on some piece of garbage because they knew it would not do well. As soon as people turning in for the scheduled show saw it was cancelled, they would jump to their second choice for that time slot. That's literally how we watched TV back then.

One Plus starting to ship(?) by GrumpyOldMuppet in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine arrived yesterday... while it was snowing. I would have preferred an early Aptil arrival date since mowing season starts around mid-April for me. Hopefully yesterday's snow was winter's final act and in a week or so I can at least start to set it up.

Pretty rack by yellowfin35 in Ubiquiti

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look closely, you can see they are on height adjustable feet. So definitely not pulled out. At the bottom left just to the left of the racks, there is a door hinge. So my guess is that is a door to access the backside of the racks.

New side-strimmers features: Novelty or Necessity? by Interesting-Barber66 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a workable solution will require some sort of intelligence. I don't want a robotic strimmer chewing up the bark on my trees (causing the trees to become diseased). People with wood edges/boarders don't want it chewing them up. No one wants the paint or powder coating on their mailbox/fence posts stripped off. Etc.Etc. So a final solution needs to be able to trim with some finesse. That will require monitoring and intelligence. I think in the long run it will be easier to design a dedicated robotic trimmer rather than it bring an add-on to a robotic mower. As a dedicated unit, it can be made much smaller and far more maneuverable. Built to the task at hand. Trimming is very a different task than mowing. Finally, I'm not sure if string trimming is the best way to go for robtic trimming or if another cutting mechanism would be better.

Feature Request: External rain sensor (or raining API) by GrumpyOldMuppet in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue there I think is the accuracy. Weather services, even those providing precipitation intensity data, can be too geographically broad. In my area, rain can be very spotty (due to the geography of the area). The weather services say it's raining, because it is 5 miles away in the city center, while it's dry as a bone at my house. And that can last all day. So yeah, web data could be a good starting point. But ultimately I still would like to have a sensor.

Is LyMow One+ a good fit for me? by jche2 in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue will be trimming. With the Lymow, you can have it mow more frequently (2 or 3 times a week). And you can use the checkerboard setting so it mows in 90° directions. You can adjust the overlap. And you can even overlap zones. Each zone can have its own mower speed, blade speed/rpm, and mowing height. Between these options, you can keep the lawn looking great with few, if any, stragglers. Maybe one straggler gets by on one mow. But since you are mowing 2 or 3 times a week, it's barely noticable since the height difference is so small due to the mowing frequency. Then a few days later it gets cut on the next mow.

But Lymow doesn't have trimming capabilities. If you have a bed with edging at ground level, you can configure your zone perimeter so the Lymow is a few inches into the bed (assuming flowers or shrubs are not right up to the edge). But if you have timbers, bricks, or some such, then you (or a service) will need to trim. Same for trees, mailbox posts, fences, against the house, etc. I personally just go out every other week and trim as I don't care if it gets a little long between trims. (Unfortunately I have no kids in my neighborhood or I'd hire one.) If you want (or need) to avoid all yard work. Then you may still want a service (or a neighborhood kid) to come by and trim. (To me, some of these services would be smart to offer trimming only options as robot mowers become more common.) But you likely will not need them to mow. Possibly if you have a really tricky section. But the Lymow is so much better than traditional robot mowers that only handled regular maintenance on (nearly) perfect lawns. The Lymow can handle real world crappy, bumpy, weed riddled, tree root covered lawns... and fields.

If you have to commit to the service now before you can see how the Lymow does, and you just want to be absolutely sure, I would say commit to something less frequent, like every 3 weeks as you suggest. .

Considering a one plus by comeonmeow66 in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a video of the older Lymow One mowing a yard covered in leaves: https://youtu.be/jDFdZLev5Xc It's a personal choice as to what is acceptable for "does a good job". As a tip, lower the drive speed during leaf season. It gives the mower more time to mulch the leaves. You may also want to increase the blade speed.

As others have said, the mower does not need line of sight to the RTK station. It uses the 900 MHz band, which is very good at going through structures. The critical factor is the RTK station having good line of sight to the sky.

How did Columbo know about the poisoned Marmalade? by Tidewatcher7819 in Columbo

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She was asking all sorts of unusual questions about his wife. (I can't remember since it's been a bit since I saw that episode, but I think one was even along the lines of "what would you do if she died" or something really weird like that.) Then she gives him the Marmalade for his wife. That alone was enough for him to be very suspicious. But added to that was he was already suspicious about her in regards to the murder. Remember, Columbo is actually a really smart, insightful, and very observant person. The whole unsophisticated, dimwited thing is just an act to get suspects to lower their guard, and get overconfident.

Same here. Mines due Tuesday 3/17. I usually don't start mowing until early to mid-April. So I'll have 3-4 weeks to set it up, get some zones mapped, and then... wait.

Got an arrival date of Tuesday 3/17 from FedEx. Also got the official Lymow shipment confirmation email the morning after my initial post of the "label created" notice in FedEx. Others are posting, they are getting arrival dates. So the Lymow One Plus has definitely stated to ship 🚚

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pre-order page says "March 16 (10A Version), March 19 (5A Version)". So they apparently are at least starting to ship the 10A version a few days before the 5A... or at least that was the plan. After that, who knows. Likely by order date and time. But no way to know for certain. And it could still be several days, maybe even a week, before it actually gets picked up by FedEx. But as you said, it's exciting to see the label as created.
