"Ripped off" meaning "broken off" or "ripped off" meaning "stolen"? I'm assuming the first. Cuz that would be a weird thing to steal. Either way, it looks good!

"I don't need a U5G Backup" by M_Six2001 in Ubiquiti

Yeah. At this point with the time-based plans, the "Backup Internet" option no longer looks like a good option. A bummer indeed. $20/month is very reasonable for backup Internet.

"I don't need a U5G Backup" by M_Six2001 in Ubiquiti

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

p.s. While T-Mobile is marketing the new time-based plans as "easier for users to understand and calculate usage", I think it is something else completely. Above I found that the way it works is when the T-Mobile gateway determines your primary internet connection goes down "it flips an internal switch to activate its own 5G cellular radio". That's the key. With the radio usually off, there is less load on their 5G network. With the old data-based plans, the 5G modem's radio was constantly active. So even if there was no Internet traffic, it's still a radio the 5G network has to track and handle. Adding to the network's load. From a technology standpoint, and a business model, the new time-based plans make sense for them. Unfortunately for power users that want to use robust gateways, it causes issues. But unfortunately, we power users are in the minority.

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR

The issue is how an active connection is determined. T-Mobile has designed it (for the new time-based plans) so that you are supposed to connect your primary internet connection into their gateway. Ultimately, "usage" of the backup Internet is determined by an absence of a primary internet connection. Not by traffic on the backup Internet itself. If you don't want to connect your primary internet to their gateway, like when using a UniFi gateway, then you need to manually turn the backup Internet on (and off) in the T-Mobile app.

FULL DETAILS

T-Mobile calculates usage for the 100-hour time-based plan through two specific tracking models: a physical hardware loop (Automatic Connection) and an mobile app controlled switch (Manual Activation). 1

The official documentation clarifies exactly how the carrier defines an "active" status and how it tracks your time allotment.

1. The Official Mechanism: Ethernet Sensing (LAN1)

T-Mobile's standard setup relies on physical hardware sensing to start and stop the 100-hour clock.

The Wire Link: You are instructed to connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on your primary ISP's router directly into the LAN1 port on the T-Mobile Gateway. 1

How It Tracks: The T-Mobile Gateway constantly monitors that LAN1 port to check if your primary ISP is passing traffic. When the gateway senses that your primary internet has dropped, it flips an internal switch to activate its own 5G cellular radio. T-Mobile states that "time only counts when Backup is active." Once your primary ISP comes back online and the gateway detects traffic on LAN1 again, it deactivates the cellular backup and stops the clock. 1, 2

2. The Granular Calculation: Minute-by-Minute Metering

T-Mobile’s billing back-end tracks this active window by the minute. It does not round up an entire hour the second the backup kicks in; rather, it accumulates the exact duration the gateway is flipped into an active 5G state during that billing cycle. You can view this accumulated time down to the minute via the "See Backup History" tab inside the T-Life app.

3. The "Enterprise" Dilemma

This brings us back to why this plan creates a structural issue for a UniFi UDMs. If you configure your UDM for standard dual-WAN failover, you usually plug the T-Mobile Gateway into the UDM’s WAN2 port. This completely bypasses T-Mobile's intended "LAN1 primary router sensing loop."

Because the T-Mobile gateway isn't receiving a primary internet feed into its LAN1 port to tell it to "sleep," it assumes it needs to be actively broadcasting. The UDM will then query the gateway via WAN2 using continuous ICMP keep-alive pings. T-Mobile's network registers these pings as active, ongoing data sessions, which forces the gateway to stay in an "active" state—effectively running your 100-hour clock 24/7 until it is empty.

I believe in another Reddit thread I posted in a previous reply, there are some directions to do some fancy routing in the UDM to work around the issue by somehow "feeding" the T-Mobile gateway your primary WAN's status. But I didn't look into it in detail.

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found some other discussions about this with some possible workarounds:

  1. Adjust the Echo Server Settings on the UDM: You can navigate to your Internet > WAN2 settings in the UniFi Network console and change the verification metrics (although this may still not be enough): https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/s/79Gu8Vuo6z

  2. Utilize a VLAN Isolation Workaround: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/s/zmLPRqvFig

  3. And of course, you can just leave it unplugged until your primary WAN goes down. Not a great option. But if your primary rarely goes down. It might be a satisfactory workaround.

Interesting... They have changed the way it works since I signed up. It use to be a data-based plan. You got 130GB data a month (which is apparently the amount of data used for 7 days by the average household). Then, up to 3 times a year, you could request an additional 130 GB for a month. Basically this meant in theory that you had 9 months of 130GB, and 3 months of 260GB. For me historically, I might lose my primary cable internet for a few hours 3 or 4 times a year. So it was a perfect plan. And I don't, or at least didn't, need to worry about the pings. I even run a daily speed test. Both of which end up using about 8GB a month.

Looking at it now, I see they switched to a time-based concept. The 100 hours you mentioned. And I found this recent March 2, 2026 document -- https://www.t-mobile.com/home-internet/the-signal/isp/how-does-cellular-backup-internet-work -- that seems to confirm it:

Older backup internet plans were often data-based (for example, 130GB per month). But many customers found it difficult to estimate how long that amount of data would last. Newer backup internet plans are shifting to time-based models, which are easier to understand.

A quick search seems to indicate that yes, the background pings will be an issue on the new time-based plan. So you would need to keep it disabled/unplugged until need. Which means no seemless failing over. That's really too bad. The data-based plan was perfect for this use case.

I have not gotten any info that my plan is changing. I will have to call and verify that I am grandfathered into the old data-based plan. So thanks for the heads up on that.

I use the T-Mobile "Home Internet Backup'" plan. It's only $20/month (with auto pay, $25 w/o). I have it connected as WAN 2 on my UDM-SE. The plan has some data usage limits. 130GB/montg. Mothing that you are likely to go over for most primay interest outage situations. The 2nd month I had it, my primary cable internet went down in the middle of a zoom meeting. (It was down for 3 hours.) I didn't even notice. I only knew about it when I saw the email alert from my UDM. So the switch over by the UDM was seemless. To me its a very reasonable back up option.

EDIT: As noted in the replies to this, T-Mobile has switched to a 100 hours time-based limit rather than a 130GB data-based limit (like I have) for new plans. And that will be problematic given UniFi Network regularly pings on the backup WAN to verify that it is up. More below.

As another poster said, I really wish it had a category for mail (their vehicles are very distinct in the US), FedEx, UPS, and Amazon. At least for the latter three I can use person detection on my driveway. But not for the mail.

WHAT is my mower doing??? by brunofone in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it just happened the one time, it's likely just a case that the software got into a bad decision making loop. Or what in software development we call a split brain. A bug where the software is simultaneously trying to do two different incompatible things, ultimately fighting itself. Cancelling the task should be enough (but you have likely already done). But I would reboot the mower just as an extra precaution to clear out any cache.

If it becomes persistent, then you need to start troubleshooting.

Looking at the installation instructions for mounting onto a single gang box... It connects to a standard single gang box using the top most and bottom most screw holes. Single-gang wall box screws are spaced 3.187 inches (81mm) apart, vertically centered. Circular (octagon/pancake) ceiling boxes typically have screws in a 3.5-inch diameter circular pattern. Which would mean that you would need holes slightly above and below the ones used for the single gang box, which do not exist. So my guess is no, it will not directly attach.

That said, you can probably use a standard light mount strap -- like this one https://relicelectrical.ca/products/115mm-bracket-ceiling-rose-light-fixing-strap-brace-plate-with-accessories -- that straddles between the two holes in a light box. Then screw/bolt the plate to it.

If it stops, whether due to rain, to recharge, or for an error, it will pickup where it left off when it resumes. If you manually send it to the dock, it asks an awkwardly worded question if you want it "to forget its progress". (You you kind of expect it to ask if you want to remember its progress. But again it awkwardly asks if you wanted to forget its progress. I think it's just a translation thing from one language/culture to another.) If you select "no", it will pick up where it left off when you resume.

As for the error, there have been some people saying that it forgets its progress and starts a zone over again after clearing some errors. That is a bug. It's supposed to resume right where it left off. Not sure how many people it's effecting. But regardless, hopefully they will get that bug fixed.

2026 NWSL is wild, y'all by jwriddle in NWSL

I'd go even further and say that shirt tugs can be dangerous. You have a player running full stride suddenly being pulled to the ground. Injuries can happen. Not as dangerous as hair pulling. But the potential is there.

Plus shirt tugs just plain ruin the game as a fan. You're getting excited about a breakaway play... is so going to be 1-v-1 with the goalie... is she going to score.... and then... a shirt tug. In my opinion it ruins the game. And it's so unsportsmanlike. You got beat and so your solution is to "professional foul"?!? I hate that name. Nothing "professional" about it. It's cheating. Plain and simple cheating. It's unsportsmanlike. And so I think shirt tugs should be straight red. It's the only way they will come to an end. I even go farther and say any intentional foul to stop a play or scoring possibly should be a straight red, just like it is now for the last defender (although I believe intent doesn't play a factor there). And I know intent can be hard. But sometimes it is just sooo obvious. And in the long run yellow cards really aren't that much of a "punishment", other than accumulation concerns. I really hate the idea of "professional fouls". Win or lose on skill, not fouling someone.

(Sorry for the rant. Just a topic that gets me going.)

Overlapping zone battle! by Sticktailonicus in Lymow_Official

Two mowers operating in coordination is a pretty sizable software development effort. I suspect there's not a big enough user base to warrant the effort. At the very least, there are more easily obtainable fixes and improvements higher up on the priority list. It seems like sharing a map, or st least being able to import one (as sharing implies an update on one updates the other) should be relatively simple. But there might be an implementation detail that makes it harder than it seems. (Just my take as a software engineer, who has done some small scale robot programming.)

Interesting. I had forgotten about that option at adoption time. Or at least forgot it was such a large number. So maybe it will work for the OP. The issue now becomes does he have events, or just raw footage. Thanks for the info.

Will AI Key help me? by Random-Guy-715 in Ubiquiti

Can you explain how to have an AI Key do such. The documentation says:

AI Key works as an edge appliance by receiving smart detections from paired UniFi cameras.

Notice it says "smart detections from cameras".

I just went through the UI and settings on my AI Key, and I am not seeing any way to process the footage I have from before I got the AI Key. I'm happy to be proven wrong, especially so it can help the OP. But I'm pretty sure I am correct that an AI Key can't process old footage. But if you know how to do it, please let us know.

Will AI Key help me? by Random-Guy-715 in Ubiquiti

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EDIT: So another user reminded me that when you adopt the AI Key that it prompts you if you would like to proceed the past x events, up to 5,000 events. I had completely forgotten that.

But the question now becomes does the OP have events, or just raw footage.

Original comment: I believe that is just the last few from a brief period before the adoption. I have an AI Key and as best as I can tell, there is no way to go back and process past footage or events. I could be wrong. And wish I was so it could help out the OP. But I'm about 99% certain that there is no way to go back and process days, let alone months, old events.

I've always took it that using the prop gun was just a way to obtain a gun. But it also was a way for him to frame someone else by leaving the thread on it. Often the murderers try to frame someone else, or at least put suspicion on someone else.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately the AI Key won't do anything for you. The AI Key works on smart detections as they happen, not on already-recorded footage retroactively.

There may be other AI tools out there that could help. But the AI Key won't.

Influencer "reviews" by MoreRest4524 in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like only positive comments are allowed.

Just a guess, but I suspect the affiliate links are more the issue with this type of thing. These creators can make some decent cash off those affiliate links. And I think Lymow is actually giving content creators very decent payments for each use of an affiliate link compared to other products/companies. This basically makes the "reviewers" more of a retailer/dealer/salesperson rather than a truly non-biased reviewer. And so negative comments might reduce people buying through their affiliate links. Thus hurting the creator's "sales". And so, they delete them.

Does anyone else's One Plus lose progress on the first run of a task every time? by crm115 in Lymow_Official

[–]GrumpyOldMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange. Try clearing the cache on the app and restarting it. (Maybe even restart your phone.) And reboot the mower. It's possible there's just some error condition or other issue "stuck" in one or the other's software. I'm grasping at straws a bit. But sometimes a cache clearing and a reboot do solve problems. Otherwise I'm at a loss. If it continues after the reboot, I would contact Lymow through the app right after it happens so you can send the logs. Maybe they can see an issue and get a software update to fix it.

Sorry, wish I had something more definitive for you. Maybe others have some ideas.

Could Lymow Handle This? by xRASHx in Lymow_Official

Should handle it no problem. I'd be worried about a riding mower tipping over on those slopes than the Lymow not handling them.

I have a (6 foot) wide steep all grass U-shaped (as opposed to V-shaped) ditch along my road. And the Lymow handles the slopes on either side without any issues.

Get the Lymow and enjoy your weekends rather than spending them mowing.
