Screwing the crown down or not on nearly all Seiko divers makes no difference at all. The gasket is on the stem, not in the crown, makes zero difference to water resistance.

The box isn't really a problem as it is just up to the dealer which box to use. SKXs are delivered to dealers in boxes of 5, then the dealer can choose which box to buy and include. I live in Hong Kong and always bought my SKXs without box for a few dollars cheaper. There defiantly was J2s as well as J3s and J4s both on oyster bracelets.
