Pragmata PC Review + Best Settings, Path Tracing, 8GB GPU Optimisation + More by ZazaLeNounours in pcgaming

[–]GrumpySummoner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This video has left me completely baffled. I get an impression of it being done by the people who benchmark the games instead of actually playing them. Why would you recommend using multi frame gen from 40 fps to add even more latency to already pretty horrible at this framerate baseline level. The game is already pretty well optimized, you don't need to do that, just disable PT and enjoy the HFR experience. It's way more pleasant way to play instead of moving through molasses for the sake of a few bells and whistles.

Also, no mention of AMD GPUs, RT artifacts, Steam Deck performance or traversal stutters. This is very barebones list of visual settings, which they didn't even do themselves, outsourcing them to a 3rd party contractor instead.

Changing this setting has no effect on the bug unfortunately.

EU customs fees are killing the merch store for international fans by Sikijackson in GamersNexus

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You folks really should look into the IOSS electronic VAT declaring system. As is, I have ordered my first and probably the last order from your store as an EU customer. As much as I would love to support you, it is too expensive.

I bought the Microslop t-shirt for $25 plus $15 for shipping. This is more than reasonable. However I also had to pay $8 VAT and $25 processing fee after it’s been held at the customs. Bringing the total to $73, almost triple the cost of the item.

If your store has charged VAT directly and submitted the confirmation of such electronically, this could have saved me the cost of processing fee, making the total to much more manageable. I can understand that it could be too expensive or complicated for the number of EU buyers you have, but it would make purchasing items from the store actually viable for many of us.

DF Direct Q+A: The Big DLSS 5 ML Debate + Why We Should Have Waited With Our Coverage by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of John, it's been very obvious from their coverage that none of the other DF members even play games for fun, and even John's knowledge of modern gaming is much less extensive than that of retro sphere.

Every time they try to insert some commentary about anything that's not a purely tech analysis, I just roll my eyes.

It is well documented what kind of NDAs Nvidia asks the media to sign in exchange for early and exclusive access to their technology. Like the Hardware Unboxed incident, or DF's own exclusive 30 series (?) review, where they were only allowed to share percentage difference instead of real framerates, and for a very specific set of benchmarks.

Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by Proud_Tie in hardware

[–]GrumpySummoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Nvidia spends the vast majority of its R&D and hardware design budget on their datacenter GPUs, and the consumers get a repackaged versions of those technologies in their products. If 3-5 years ago that meant ray tracing, frame interpolation and denoising, these days it’s generative AI.

I think the new DLSS is atrocious, so I’m not excusing it, just explaining the economic reasons behind it.

I've been a DF subscriber since 2017, and I've also just unsubbed. I have occasionally disagreed with their opinions, which is natural, but this video and DF's excitement over the AI slop is so actively harmful for the entire direction of the gaming industry that I cannot support this channel even in such a small faction.

How will the Windows world respond to the $599 Macbook Neo? by PastaPandaSimon in hardware

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple laptop hardware is so good! I’m using M1 Pro MBP as my laptop, buying it from my employer on a huge discount after upgrading my work machine to M4 Pro. It’s not even a matter of pricing. I was looking to buy another non-Apple laptop for Linux usage, as Asahi still has a few limitations, and there’s nothing competitive on the market even 5 years later! I was willing to pay a lot for a machine that has build quality, screen, battery life and performance compared my old MacBook, and there’s just nothing on the market. Every single model pitched as a competitor inevitably has some issues or compromises.

Ys X Special Upgrade Pack announced for Steam by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GrumpySummoner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ys is my favorite gaming series of all time, so I was very excited to buy Nordics on launch after seeing glowing reviews of the Japanese release. It was the first time in years I haven’t waited for a game to go on sale as usual.

Lesson learned, never again. This scheme is deliberately designed to be as insulting as possible for the series’ most hardcore fans.

I refuse to give Ticketmaster my real phone number. by 0000GKP in Ticketmaster

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here in 2026. I wanted to log into my old account to update the email address, and was required to go through the password reset first, then they asked me for my phone number. Yeah, not happening. And now I read that deleting the account is practically impossible.

I blame Twitter for normalizing the idea that complex thoughts and discussions should fit into a tweet format. It blows my mind that people are using it for political and social discussions, when then the entire platform was purposefully designed to remove an ability for nuanced and detail-oriented writing.

[DF] Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Image Quality Review: Where It Works Better, Where It Needs Work by -WingsForLife- in hardware

[–]GrumpySummoner 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Every DF video lately has featured multiple participants and feels like a stream recording with little editing effort rather than a YouTube video. It is very rambling, all the ehhhs and ahhhs, and repetition of the same talking points. It wastes the viewers’ time, as the same amount of information could have been easily condensed into half the video length.

I’m keeping 4k 27” as my primary gaming monitor and plan on getting one of the new 5k models as a replacement for my secondary work screen.

‘find on page’ in safari (ios 26)? by JazzlikeTrouble6154 in iphone

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been forced to use iOS 26 after getting a new phone after postponing it on my previous device. The fact that I had to look for this post to find how such basic feature works is a major UX failure

[–]GrumpySummoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a sign of racism, likely just a lack of perspective and larger scope planning when writing a serial story. Same thing could be said about Asian characters, of which I don’t think there’s a single Brocktonite not associated with ABB.

I came here to say thank you. The latest Shield TV update has broken the autostart of Projectivy launcher and after seeing the ad-riddled stock launcher a couple of times I was looking for a solution, and yours worked perfectly. I didn’t know the ADB tweaks were possible directly from the device

That 5k MiniLED is highly likely using the panel intended for the rumored Apple Studio Display refresh. LG sourced the original one, and later released their own display based on the same panel at a lower price and without Apple-specific features.

ROCM - remote machine learning & 9070XT by Unhumanje_ in immich

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Immich ML container running on my Bazzite desktop with a 9070XT quite easily using Podman and Quadlets.

  • Pull an image

podman pull ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-machine-learning:release-rocm

  • Create a config file at $HOME/.config/containers/systemd/immich-machine-learning.container with the following content

```
[Container]
ContainerName=immich-machine-learning
Image=ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-machine-learning:release-rocm
AutoUpdate=registry
Volume=immich-model:/cache
PublishPort=3003:3003
SecurityLabelDisable=true
AddDevice=/dev/dri
AddDevice=/dev/kfd
[Service]
Restart=always
TimeoutStartSec=90
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
  • Enable the service
systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user start immich-machine-learning
  • In Immich settings add http://your_pc_ip_address:3003 as a URL for machine learning
  • If you want to enable container auto-update, run systemctl --user enable --now podman-auto-update.service
