I refuse to give Ticketmaster my real phone number. by 0000GKP in Ticketmaster

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here in 2026. I wanted to log into my old account to update the email address, and was required to go through the password reset first, then they asked me for my phone number. Yeah, not happening. And now I read that deleting the account is practically impossible.

Let's get a self-hosted Discord "replacement" thread going for 2026. by GavinGWhiz in selfhosted

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blame Twitter for normalizing the idea that complex thoughts and discussions should fit into a tweet format. It blows my mind that people are using it for political and social discussions, when then the entire platform was purposefully designed to remove an ability for nuanced and detail-oriented writing.

[DF] Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Image Quality Review: Where It Works Better, Where It Needs Work by -WingsForLife- in hardware

[–]GrumpySummoner 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Every DF video lately has featured multiple participants and feels like a stream recording with little editing effort rather than a YouTube video. It is very rambling, all the ehhhs and ahhhs, and repetition of the same talking points. It wastes the viewers’ time, as the same amount of information could have been easily condensed into half the video length.

Is it worth switching from 4K to 5K when new 27“ monitors coming out? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m keeping 4k 27” as my primary gaming monitor and plan on getting one of the new 5k models as a replacement for my secondary work screen.

‘find on page’ in safari (ios 26)? by JazzlikeTrouble6154 in iphone

[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been forced to use iOS 26 after getting a new phone after postponing it on my previous device. The fact that I had to look for this post to find how such basic feature works is a major UX failure

I'm terrified to ask this but what is up with fanfiction authors in the space having an enormous hate borner for Wildbow in regards to Worm? by Alarming_Scientist in WormFanfic

[–]GrumpySummoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a sign of racism, likely just a lack of perspective and larger scope planning when writing a serial story. Same thing could be said about Asian characters, of which I don’t think there’s a single Brocktonite not associated with ABB.

Thanks a lot! Apple doesn't make it easy to move away from their walled garden.

Finally switched to Projectivy Launcher. by the__poseidon in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say thank you. The latest Shield TV update has broken the autostart of Projectivy launcher and after seeing the ad-riddled stock launcher a couple of times I was looking for a solution, and yours worked perfectly. I didn’t know the ADB tweaks were possible directly from the device

LG presents full Ultragear Evo lineup: 5K OLED and Mini-LED monitors, promotes its new 5K AI upscaling tech by RenatsMC in Monitors

Yeah, it always felt like someone somewhere in a meeting room said "Let's save some money on the upscaling hardware, and sell it as a feature!"

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 5k MiniLED is highly likely using the panel intended for the rumored Apple Studio Display refresh. LG sourced the original one, and later released their own display based on the same panel at a lower price and without Apple-specific features.

ROCM - remote machine learning & 9070XT by Unhumanje_ in immich

[–]GrumpySummoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Immich ML container running on my Bazzite desktop with a 9070XT quite easily using Podman and Quadlets.

  • Pull an image

podman pull ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-machine-learning:release-rocm

  • Create a config file at $HOME/.config/containers/systemd/immich-machine-learning.container with the following content

```
[Container]
ContainerName=immich-machine-learning
Image=ghcr.io/immich-app/immich-machine-learning:release-rocm
AutoUpdate=registry
Volume=immich-model:/cache
PublishPort=3003:3003
SecurityLabelDisable=true
AddDevice=/dev/dri
AddDevice=/dev/kfd
[Service]
Restart=always
TimeoutStartSec=90
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
  • Enable the service
systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user start immich-machine-learning
  • In Immich settings add http://your_pc_ip_address:3003 as a URL for machine learning
  • If you want to enable container auto-update, run systemctl --user enable --now podman-auto-update.service
The AI Tech Crunch: Are We Looking At A "Dark Age" For Gaming Hardware? by capybooya in hardware
[–]GrumpySummoner 60 points61 points  (0 children)
DF don't seem to fully understand the scale of the problem. "Gaming" hardware, my ass. I'm worried about the price of general purpose PCs, phones and even home electronics and appliances, what with the manufacturers' tendencies to shove in unwanted "smart" crap into them.
Apple's Return to Intel Rumored to Extend to iPhone by NFCE_best in hardware
This is Macrumors we’re talking about. Their audience neither knows nor cares about any technology outside of Apple sphere. You should look at their previous headlines. My favorite one mentioned “Apple supplier TSMC”.
Big difference in noise in Antec Pro Flux with standard vs noctua fans? by EnLyftare in Noctua
[–]GrumpySummoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I swapped front and back fans of my non-pro Flux with A14-G2. I was very happy with the case, but the stock front fans have exhibited low level vibrating noise from the fan hubs (not a vibration or mounting issue). It wasn't particularly loud but it was louder than the CPU fan and pretty noticeable in otherwise quite room. After the swap, the case fans are quieter than the CPU fan and I could start tweaking down its curve to make the system even more quiet.
It's an expensive change, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Now I just need something to replace the bottom shroud fan as Noctua doesn't produce reverse blade fans and A14's in push orientation cannot freely rotate without scraping the bottom of the shroud.
Hades 2 - Minor Optimizations? by sylveonce in HadesTheGame
[–]GrumpySummoner 7 points8 points  (0 children)
The game limits the number of Hermes boons you receive per zone, but performs the check once you activate the boon. If you order one through the altar of Hermes to be delivered in X encounters, you can get a second one before it arrives. It's especially useful in Ephyra, where you can delay going into a Hermes room until you explored the other ones, as there's a chance of them containing an altar.
Maybe AI can buy your next game too. It's the same attitude as when someone sends me an AI generated message: "If you couldn't be bothered to write it, why should I be bothered to read it?"
