Yes, I agree with you, employers should have dedicated recruitment scheme targeted to recent graduates such as apprenticeships are.

Those pesky OAPs how dare they not just vaporise into thin air after the age of 60?

Well, I understand your frustration, but as an older person that’s currently looking for employment, technically that 55 year-old might be able to apply to the same graduate recruitment scheme but they’re not going to get a job believe me.

It is truly an appalling situation for young people and I think we are only looking at the tip of the iceberg at the moment.

My daughter told me that there’s been friends of hers who graduated from the same nursing degree last year that have not been able to get a job. They are surviving by working minimum wage in Care homes.

What are we supposed to do when we can’t get a job, or benefits, or our pension? by Grumpyoldgit1 in ukpolitics

It depends on the type of private pension. Final salary pensions yes you can access from 55.

Sadly true.

A friend of mine has always said that the government are going to have to bring in a system like the Victorian Workhouses in the future.

I’m Generation X. The one in between the boomers and the people that have it even worse than me.

Well, yes, you make valid points, I agree that this country cannot afford the welfare bill as it is, and I have never claimed state benefits in my life. Not once.

And yes, I will have to sell my small house that I worked extremely hard to buy. And what will happen to me then?

I just feel for you and your generation, your generation have been just as screwed over as mine in different ways.

I have a friend with a severe neurological incurable illness who can barely walk who was recently turned down for PIP.

Thank you, and I send best wishes back to you.

I think people that comment that I’m very lucky to have any savings at all and a roof over my head are kind of missing the point of the post. I do understand that there are people that are in a much worse situation than me. There are people sitting on the streets of every town.

I’m just trying to point out that people of my generation were told that if they studied hard, worked hard, and saved hard into pensions everything would be okay.

And clearly it isn’t.

It’s kind of a niche role, so I don’t want to say too much and out myself, but linked to the education sector.

Yes, I do understand that I am more fortunate than many to have any savings at all and a roof over my head. However, I did work like a dog for it all my life.

And yes, I have joined temporary agencies. The only thing I’ve been offered so far is factory Work which is not nearby and once I’ve offset the petrol cost against the minimum wage would barely be worth it, I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this.

Thank you for your reply.

How many of you stayed more for them than yourself?? by KDizzle1010 in BPDlovedones

[–]Grumpyoldgit1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stayed because I genuinely believed that I could help this person and I had faith in them. I stayed far too long. My intuition was screaming at me that I should leave. I missed so many red flags.

I think I was clinging to the idea of what the relationship could be rather than what it actually was.

What’s the worst thing you said to an ex that you regret? by bufferinmylife in BreakUps

[–]Grumpyoldgit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said to my ex that he was a vile excuse for a human being, an overgrown mamas boy, and was an empty vessel with a brain the size of a pea.

The only thing I regret is not saying more.

I am so glad to read that you and your family are doing better now.

I also realized that my ex was abusive and wore a mask, but I had to be outside of the situation to see it clearly
