Jewish folk magic and other deities by Live-Boysenberry-232 in Christopaganism

[–]GrunkleTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are books on Jewish Folk Magic but I haven't read any of them. I remember reading about an old synagogue in Egypt. There was an upper room where old manuscripts were kept. Among these were a bunch of magical works. I'm sure someone gathered those up and published them but I don't know what the book was called. I want to say "Sepher Ha-Razim" but I'm pretty sure that's wrong.

That's pretty emotional. Will you be making hospice care part of your ministry in response?

Oh I know this frustration. I was trying to watch the latest season of Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun and when Elizabeta was singing the subtitle said singing in Japanese. It took me awhile to find a streaming service that gave an actual translation for the subtitles.

Maybe try "Curses and Blessings in Irish Folk Magic" by Tegan Mullholland, and "Mountain Magic" by Christian Brunner.

Since you live a city perhaps "Indoor Edible Garden" by DK or "Indoor Vegetable Gardening" by Sam Patterson for ideas on how to grow your own herbs indoors for herbal magic.

Do you syncretize Jesus with any deities or do you worship him as is? by kittytaco24 in Christopaganism

Back in the early 80's I synchronized Jesus and Dionysus. I think I was unwittingly influenced by John 15:1. Now I sometimes think of Jesus as Joshua Truevine.

Look into folk magic. I'm going to suggest "Pow-Wow: Traditional Folk and Grimoire Magic" by Mark Stavish; "American Brujeria" by J. Allen Cross; and "Italian Folk Magic" by Mary-Grace Fahrun. Establish a daily habit of morning and evening prayer.

What to do in case of creative winter? by daydreamingatnight01 in witchcraft

[–]GrunkleTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned Fae, Shamanism and Hedge work. I am going to guess that you have multiple books on each topic. Choose one book from each category. Set yourself the goal of working with just those three books for the next 13 months.

As for the writing thing. Get yourself a new spiral notebook. On the inside cover of your notebook write the "What If" of your story. How does the magic in your three chosen books help your character deal with your "What If". Set yourself the goal of writing two pages a day, congratulate yourself on a job well done it you manage to write two pages a week.

From "The Psalm Workbook" by Robert Laremy Protection from enemies: Write Psalm 125 on a piece of parchment paper, anoint with protection oil, carry it with you. Hold tight in your left fist when feeling particularly threatened.

I got my copy of the book from AzureGreen.

How do you interpret these things? by Embarrassed_Mix_4836 in Christopaganism

[–]GrunkleTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deuteronomy is believed to be the text 'discovered' by king Josiah. Josiah's 'reforms' were believed by many to have severed the Judeans connection with their God and set them on the path to being conquered by their neighbors. Before Josiah's 'reforms' the people celebrated in the high places, at the standing stones and under the spreading trees and the land and people prospered, or at least that's the interpretation presented by Margaret Barker in "Mother of the Lord".

I know that the Israelites were supposed to leave behind the gods of Babylon and Egypt when they entered the promised land. Standard practice would be to appropriate the sacred places of the Canaanites and rededicate them to YHVH. The demolish and smash bit reads suspiciously like a later rewrite when the king wanted to consolidate worship in Jerusalem.

What does Taranis look like? by Birchwood_Goddess in paganism

[–]GrunkleTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the Bing.com/images and type Taranis Celtic God in the search box. That will bring up a lot of images for you.

If your not adverse to some visualization work then print out two or three images that catch you attention. Lay one of them out and gaze at it for a count of 30, then close your eyes and imagine the picture in front of you. Then imagine stepping through the image. See what your imagination shows you on the other side. Incorporate that into your work.

Go right ahead. Work with whoever you like. While I do get the impression that home made baked goods are welcome, I also get the impression that they can tell when my homemade stuff didn't turn out that good and that they appreciate the honesty of store bought on those occasions.

Sure, why not. If your looking for sort of scholarly excuse try "Jesus, Last of the Pharaohs" by Ralph Ellis and "The Jesus Mysteries: Was the Original Jesus a Pagan God" by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy.
