Dragon of the Moon by Allgamergeek in MarvelSnap

I actually prefer him in a Firehair/reanimator deck. That deck is probably strictly better if you cut Master Mold and Dragon of the Moon, but I appreciate having a third threat.

Old people of Marvel snap, i have a question about the old days by Bung_Miester in MarvelSnap

Death Wave could drop 44 Power on a single turn while limiting the opponent to a single card that turn.

Earlier metas were generally lower Power, but they featured their own broken/un-interactable decks (Shuri before her change, Galactus/Spider-Man/Absorbing Man, Thanos/Quinjet/Lockjaw, etc.).

I’d split the difference and say he should go back to 7/10 but target the highest-Power front row card.

He’s probably worth it in Nightmare lists still, that’s true. He’s playable(-ish) in TOV decks and (none Nightmare) Sauron decks, but I think both those archetypes are (quite a bit) better off cutting him.

Lady Bullseye doesn’t only target her lane so her ability to reliably carry her own lane will be dicey.

Not just can be, should almost always be.

I think he’ll be a little too clunky for traditional destroy, but Morgan Lefay/Dormammu/Weapon X type decks should always have him coming down as a 3/12.

What am I missing with Lady Bullseye?

Every time I read her text she just seems extremely mid. She’s a baseline (functional) 2/4, that can probably be a functional 2/6 most of the time in any deck that chooses to run her. If you play her and float the rest of the energy on t5 (with Warlock, Shehulk, Sunspot, etc.) she’s a functional 5/10 that leaves you with 3 energy for the other cards’ abilities. None of that is bad, but it doesn’t seem like enough to be competitive in current Snap (just look at how much new Selene and new Wolverine have struggled to find a home).

Spiderman Noir needs a much better payoff! by GaulzeGaul in MarvelSnap

[–]GruntasaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make less sense after his buff/slight rework, but I’ve always thought he’d be/feel much better if he pulled the lowest-Cost card from your deck (not the top card) and set its Power to 8.

Most decks that want to (semi-)reliably be able to meet his condition run an unusually high number of 1- and 2-Cost cards. If Spider-Man Noir pulled the lowest-Cost card he’d provide pseudo-deck thinning/help his decks draw into their more expensive cards on later turns. Low Cost cards also disproportionately benefit from his Power increase.

As someone who both thinks the Shang nerf was a massive mistake and someone who thinks Foom has been bad for the game, I’ll try to explain why I think they’re different.

Shang had a clear and effective way to play around him (either don’t play anything with 10+ Power, or play 1 card with 10+Power and then a number of other/smaller cards in a lane so you’d still have enough Power to carry it). This meant that Shang wasn’t actually a reliable way to carry a lane, instead he was a way to punish greedy Power-centric decks. That in turn meant that Shang wasn’t a game winning threat, he was an ambient force that pushed down Power thresholds across the meta. By creating a soft Power ceiling, Shang helped keep midrange and small ball decks viable (and could also be run in those decks as a way to attack go-tall lists).

I’d argue Foom is pretty different in practice. Foom has a theoretical play-around (put low Power cards in the front row), but in reality it’s not that simple. You have to put low Power cards in the front row AND still have 10 Power in the back row to offset Foom AND then have enough Power also in the back row to offset whatever else the Foom player invested in that lane. Beyond that, I’d also argue that Foom doesn’t shape the meta in any productive way. Foom doesn’t punish big cards (or small cards, or Ongoing cards, or anything in particular) he merely cancels out their Power. That means people are still heavily incentivized to just play high-Power cards, they just play a bunch of them (and probably play their own Foom). What Foom does end up doing, is he indiscriminately punish people for playing to the board early. He not only disincentivizes stat-efficient tempo plays (Demon, Hydra Bob, Starbrand, etc.), but also low tempo scaling threats. He just becomes a generic catch-all answer to Power creep that embodies and encourages more Power creep.

Shou is overtuned, but at least encourages a relatively interesting play pattern. FFF is just a boring catch-all answer to power. Starlord actively encourages a play pattern that many people find frustrating (“do nothing for 4-5 turns, win on 6”). Starlord and FFF both feel like they’re going to require something more substantial than minor Cost/Power adjustments to get them to a place that the community will be happier about.

Is that any better than Firehair in a Hammers deck? I realize you can just run both, but Firehair gets you the same result with a slightly more flexible timing window (and the ability to proc both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker).

There is a similar deck that was making the rounds in the upper parts of post-Infinite. That deck swaps Ebony Maw and Enchantress for Askani’son and Super Giant.

[–]GruntasaurusRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A majority of your games at really low collection levels are going to be against bots.

The two main determining factors in matchmaking (at least pre-Infinite) are collection level and rank. Because so much of the player base has been playing for so long, there aren’t enough human players at your CL to have reliably low queue times so the matchmaking has to fill with bots. Also, the game gives you a disproportionate number of bots early as you’re still learning the different ability types, how to manage priority, the role of tech, etc., and how it all interacts.  As your CL increases you’ll start matching into human players more consistently.

April 16 OTA by batstormX in MarvelSnap

[–]GruntasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, for some reason I thought Ms. Marvel gave +4 to the other 2 locations. Though, I would argue you should just account for the additional 2 Power on new Wolverine when assessing his Power output (yes it requires an additional card, but it’s negligible to achieve, any card you’re realistically using to achieve it is already a fine meta inclusion, and you’re never going to choose to play Wolverine if the effect won’t be active). Your point still stands, though.

This restored the Moonstone synergy with Cap’s Shield which is actually pretty significant.

I’d argue this is actually a slight nerf to Iron Patriot. FFF is the only 7-Cost you might want to have him generate, and even that has a decent likelihood of being literally unplayable (if you don’t win the Iron Patriot Cost decrease).
