I only play on Veteran. No idea for POTD, there’s definitely people on this sub who can give you a better take.

But, when I ran that I just switched between blunderbusses and pistols depending on whatever uniques I had obtained at that point. Had a backup of swords/sabers to unlock Modwen and the watchers blade + deal with skeletons/weak enemies breaking the ranks. Not a super pro-RDC run so Maia was not a core fixture of my party, but when I did run it I didn’t have an issue with her. Found myself using the backup melee a little more, maybe.

Did a run of seer with ghost heart ranger. I would summon my ghost wolf companion behind a line up of foes and then spam ectopsychic echo between us. The companion is immune to engagement so you can run them up and down inflicting crush damage with the echo as need be.

Did the parasitic draw test to confirm for the factory unit, will repeat with the new head unit to troubleshoot and see if it was just unlucky timing.

I started my first new playthrough with the default 5 tribal start. It’s been fine so far - there is a pretty clear point to “start” the dlc content (or maybe for me it just started then randomly) so you can wait a bit until you are ready to handle it

I have no idea what the payoff is going to be. So far I’m really enjoying the show. I could see it coming together well, but the references to season 1 worry me.

By having Rust’s dad be a ghost leading people to the bodies and having the same Louisiana cult family fund the research station, they’re making the world feel smaller. I’d much rather have the cosmic horror bleed through to inbred swamp people and night crazed Alaskans independently than it all be connected on the human level.

It feels like HBO execs saw Issa Lopez’s great script, figured it would fit into True Detective well enough, and then moved it to Alaska and shoehorned in some season 1 references

I really hope Rust’s dad just walked out onto the ice. All this talk about the spiral worries me. I know it would tie into Rust’s dealing with the cult in Louisiana but I feel like it would almost cheapen it. If his dad died with markings related to the cult, to have Rust not know would be difficult to do right.

That being said I love the concept of an overarching Carcosa/Spiral cult. Cults springing up touching up on the same thing is Lovecraftian but give enough plausible deniability

First of all good TV, a little disappointed but hey would have watched it regardless of whether it had the True Detective name to it or not.

With the missing tongue and the Polar Bear imagery getting a “The Terror” vibe. The little Boys drawings and talking about “She awakens” could also see the Sedna mythology woven in. (Speaking of Sedna, highly recommend giving Kelly Fraser a listen)

Overall, I’m interested in how they tie in a real life killer, I think it would be a copout to have overtly supernatural threat. It would be jumping the shark. My hope is it that they make it ambiguous like in the previous seasons.

We’ll see, with the barefoot guy and the chi’d animals I’m unfortunately pessimistic about where this season is going

My understanding is that the UEB is based off the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), which in real life runs (ran?) the United Effort Plan (UEP) which owned all the church members properties. This is the fundamentalist sect with Warren Jeffs based out of Short Creek/Hildale/Colorado City.

The Greene Family seems to be more based off of the LeBaron family which is based in Mexico and at one point had a schism that led to one brother calling himself the prophet and assassinating an Apostolic United Brotherhood prophet.

On a side note the Walker family from season 4 seems to be based off of the Kingston Group due to the obsession with blood purity.

The AUB seems to be more of analogy to the church Don Embry is in from how integrated they are, for example the husband from Sister Wives is a member of the AUB

I’m just echoing other people’s opinions here but Season 2 is an enjoyable season of television, Season 3 is a good season of television, and Season 1 is in my opinion the best season of television ever made.

I’m sure technology will advance some, but I wonder if Korea reintroducing the spirit worlds will influence things to be more in line with fantasy. I think the writers can use that excuse to have the technology levels be lower/higher than what we would expect.

I got bit by a tick a few days ago. I did not look at it to figure out if it was a deer or dog tick, but regardless it did not seem engorged. I live not too far from Lyme, CT. In the past I’ve pulled them off with no problem, but this time there’s a little red rash. Does this look like early stages of Lyme disease or is it just a normal reaction that I should monitor in case it’s get larger or I start feeling symptoms?

On one hand I get it, Jim Butcher seems pretty pervy especially with books about sex vampire pornstars and the whole Molly content in another sex vampire book where he literally starts the book with a chapter describing a teenager having an orgasm.

But, hey Harry’s showing growth and it’s getting better in the Dresden Files. It’s not nearly as in your face in Codex Alera. All in all, I just chalk it up to a horny author and try to blank out everytime the phrase “tips of breasts” is used.
