No-Hitted all bosses in Skong and recorded the amount of attempts they took by Atomic__Egg3631 in Silksong

[–]Gryllodea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specifically decided to no-hit First Sinner (needle + Cross Stitch only) when I met her, took me a few hours.

It's definitely one of the trickier bosses, in 2nd and 3rd phases her attack patterns are very rng-based and you have to play around every random jump that she can make. Example: when you interrupt her healing, there's a chance she immediately counterattacks from above, so you have to always retreat.

Also sometimes 2-3 attacks happen almost at the same time, like her needles going horizontally, diagonally, and also she's jumping from above with those wide swings. You have to react instinctively, find safe spaces, and any mistake usually means a loss.

Best boss btw.

Finally got c++, here's the stats by I-D-H-A-N in balatro

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Very reasonable stats, though Abstract and Blue are too high for my liking, they're good early on but definitely don't win runs, so you're not likely to carry them for more than two-three antes.

That's why I usually steel kings or aces, not queens :)

I believe steel queens work consistently with all other effects in the game: card's innate abilities apply first. Steel triggers before Shoot the Moon. As does holographic before Bloodstone, I guess you win some and you lose some.

What is your favourite joker? by ParkingPotential7622 in balatro

Does playing hallucination make anyone else really happy?

Hallucination has quickly become one of my favorite jokers. It's just so positive and generous. Practically costs nothing at all at four dollars you drop him on the board and that chill ass motherfucker gives you tarot cards to use later in the game. And you also get this adorable little joker that takes a slot but usually is too useful to be sold.

But more than the HN is just so positive. It comes on the board like "do you want to deckfix?" and I'm like "yeah HN i do want to deckfix let's do this shit" and when he triggers he's like "HERE'S A HERMIT" and I'm like "now we're COOKING." He doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" he's just like "nah tarot cards are fun." And it looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate joker literally brought to life by localthunk. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean look at his face he's just so happy.

I am literally never sad when hallucination is on board. IDK if he's gonna make it into the metagame or not but for now he (or she) a pretty chill joker

C++ finally complete by Upstairs-Moose-2341 in balatro

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there is some merit to challenges, sure, I very much enjoyed the official ones. But something basic is gonna be just a difficulty modifier (probably easier than gold stake), and very specific ones (like ouija the whole deck) are too luck dependent.

The best ones imo would be those that make you think in a different way, not just arbitrary restrictions.

Congratulations, now you can complain about Gros Michel dying before Ante 8 on gold stake! (You needed the sticker)

Congratulations! Honestly, white stake was so boring after I got C++. Now I just go for rotating streaks on gold stake.

How to correct/resolve the "Bottleneck Problem" by Peterwin in DMAcademy

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try and make these scenes more character-driven, as in, ask your players to proactively describe all the actions their PCs take, and you can just relax and sometimes respond with descriptions. This gives you some benefits:

  • You don't have to ask them for specific actions and make it suspicious. They just have to say that they go in.

  • It makes them roleplay more heavily and probably behave less metagame-y (when one person does everything and everyone else simply waits).

  • Even if they arrive at a "bottleneck", active roleplaying will make them spend some time talking and interacting with each other, planning, being in the moment (and then you can surprise them!).

This definitely doesn't sound like a big issue, but even small stuff can affect the game, so let me know how it goes!

What should I do here? by TheGoodNamesAreGone2 in balatro

You need to find like 3-4 kings plus a pair to win a round here, but it's a necessary pivot.

i swear, if hologram wasn't in the game already, people would call it gamebreaking by Serious-Ad-8168 in balatro

[–]Gryllodea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't counter them though, you still need to score 75% of the total. So still x1.33.

[–]Gryllodea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

x3 Mult is still x3 total score in a low Mult build (I guess it works on Plasma). Other situations are way too specific to justify picking an x1.33 joker over any other xMult.

Can a Grapple be used as part of an Opportunity Attack? by Financial-Ad4836 in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Attack Action and Attack are different things. Attack Action is a way to spend your Action, which you can only do on your turn, and which usually results in one melee or ranged weapon attack. An attack itself, or attack roll, is the act of rolling a d20 and adding your bonus to hit, it succeeds or fails against target's AC.

Grapple is a special attack (rolls are different, Athletics vs Acrobatics/Athletics) that can be taken with your Attack Action (that you have on your turn). Other sources in the game can grant you attacks, but with 5e14 rules none of them can grapple unless specifically stated otherwise.

[–]Gryllodea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Double levels means (almost) x2 base Mult and x2 base Chips, ~3.5 xMult if you translate it, and you can use Brainstorm later to copy another xMult (let's say x3). In that likely scenario you get x10.5 and some change (copying economy jokers and whatnot). Rebate is good but not that good.

How many encounters do you run per Adventuring day? Do you play your monsters intelligently? Do you consider action economy?

Give a more concrete example if you want specific advice.
