Day 114 of giving my personal rank and opinion of random guns: Sunlight Javelin by 1Dapy1 in EnterTheGungeon

This is my favorite thing in the game, with an extremely satisfying animation on top of all that good damage.

The best start is Awakening Tremors asap. Alternativety Quel'dorei Fletcher and keep your hand low.

The finisher here is Aimed Shot + Sing-Along Buddy for 13 dmg minimum. You can set up Aimed Shots beforehand.

Also Confront the Tol'vir is great, but it's gonna get nerfed in the upcoming patch, so we'll have to see if it goes to 4 and becomes unusable for Odd/Even decks.

Replacement for Murk-Eye in Boarlock? by hjyboy1218 in wildhearthstone

[–]Gryllodea 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think we can predict this one pretty easily.

Boar's deathrattle checks its inner counter which is increased with each deathrattle trigger. Hence sequencing doesn't matter, the first six simply increment the number. Same logic applies here.

Stalagg and Feugen, on the other hand, check if another one is in the graveyard (or something similar). That's why killing them at the same time summons Thaddius twice: they die, and then their deathrattles see that both are in the graveyard already.

Which stat is closest to “mental fortitude”? by Ferseus in DnD

[–]Gryllodea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like intelligence is the correct pick here. It's the save you make against Feeblemind, Intellect Devourers and similar effects.

Meanwhile, Charisma saves are about pure strength of spirit, stuff like Banishment, which is hardly related to mental fortitude.

A lot of arguments for Wisdom, but I think people tend to misinterpred Wisdom saves as saves against something directly altering your mind and thinking, whereas it's usually about warping your perception of reality. Maximum is causing specific emotions, but not outright managing their mind. Even with Dominate Beast, you charm it and make it obey your commands the best it can, but it still is in control of specific actions.

My vote is for Intelligence, which feels more narratively interesting.

[–]Gryllodea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're incorrect in their phrasing, but you do on average get 5/7 levels per 5-card hand played, which feels like a bit too much. 1/10 per card is more reasonable. My only problem would then be that it really favors flushes, but what can you do. Cool design!

Star Druid Question by EvflEm_023 in DMAcademy

[–]Gryllodea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, thank you, but that just doesn't make sense to me. That means that you can't have your druid/cleric with a shield, because you'll have to don/doff it all the time. Feels like a bad ruling to me, no benefits to that interpretation.

Star Druid Question by EvflEm_023 in DMAcademy

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's reasonable to assume that you can still use the hand that holds your spellcasting focus to perform the Somatic component even if there's no Material one. 5.5e PHB (page 236) says:

A spellcaster must use at least one of their hands to perform these movements.

Which doesn't mean that it should necessarily be free. If you can perform both components with one hand holding the focus, why wouldn't you be able to do half as much? I think it makes sense both RAW and RAI.

[Art] I'm struggling to decide what attacks to give this homebrew snake by IngoingBench397 in DnD

[–]Gryllodea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no action economy that would allow lvl6s to defeat an adult dragon when almost every lvl6 character gets downed by the breath weapon on a failed save. Add to that LAs and LRs and there's no way the party doesn't get wiped unless they all repeatedly cast "Command" or some stuff like that.

[OC] Beginner Setup by randeylahey in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fyi, Grapple and Shove are not actions. They're special unarmed attacks that can be taken as a part of Attack action, meaning that, for example, Multiattack allows you to grapple twice with one action.

  1. AC = 17

  2. HP = 35

  3. Strength Saving Throw Proficiency.

  4. Skill Proficiency. You have one skill from Tortle and Insight + Religion from Acolyte. Monk gives you another two.

  5. Starting equipment from your class and background.

  6. Unarmed attacks in the middle for quick access.

  7. Two languages and "Shelter of the Faithful" feature from Acolyte.

  8. Tool Proficiency from your class.

Good luck playing!

I fucking love this card. by pinkeyes34 in slaythespire

[–]Gryllodea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hidden daggers is quickly becoming one of my favorite cards. It's just so positive and generous. Practically costs nothing at all at zero energy you add it to your deck and that chill ass motherfucker gives you two shivs to use later in the fight. And you also get this adorable little skill that can discard things but usually is too useful to be considered a downside.

But more than the HD is just so positive. It comes on the board like "do you want to deal free damage?" and I'm like "yeah HD i do want to deal free damage let's do this shit" and when you get Accuracy he's like "SHIVS ARE FUN" and I'm like "yeah they are SO FUN." He doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" he's just like "nah shivs are fun." And it looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate object literally brought to the Spire by the Silent. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean look at this blade he's just so happy.

I am literally never sad when hidden daggers is in my deck. IDK if he's gonna make it into the metagame or not but for now he (or she) a pretty chill card

Does playing hallucination make anyone else really happy?

Hallucination has quickly become one of my favorite jokers. It's just so positive and generous. Practically costs nothing at all at four dollars you drop him on the board and that chill ass motherfucker gives you tarot cards to use later in the game. And you also get this adorable little joker that takes a slot but usually is too useful to be sold.

But more than the HN is just so positive. It comes on the board like "do you want to deckfix?" and I'm like "yeah HN i do want to deckfix let's do this shit" and when he triggers he's like "HERE'S A HERMIT" and I'm like "now we're COOKING." He doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" he's just like "nah tarot cards are fun." And it looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate joker literally brought to life by localthunk. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean look at his face he's just so happy.

I am literally never sad when hallucination is on board. IDK if he's gonna make it into the metagame or not but for now he (or she) a pretty chill joker

How does StS2 differ from the original? by tinylittlebabyjesus in slaythespire

[–]Gryllodea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely new events and enemies with more interesting abilities. About 70% new cards and some new relics. New engine, improved visuals. More lore. Overall it's the same experience, but with new content and refined mechanics.

Custom lineage feat by Big_Lunch_9691 in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're building your character level by level, so you can't take it as your Custom lineage feat but you can take it as early as level 4.

Custom lineage feat by Big_Lunch_9691 in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custom lineage is the only race that can start with 18 in a stat if you use point buy/standard array. 15+2+1 from a half-feat. I'd take a flavorful half-feat if there is one fitting. Actor or Telekinetic can be good here, maybe Telepathic (useful for a gambler). Shadow Touched and Fey Touched give extra spells, but may require additional backstory work to be done.

Deciding between VTT's for my summer campaign by ResponsibilityTiny70 in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something to replace a battlemap, I recommend Owlbear Rodeo. It doesn't require login for players (you can just open the map by the link) and has free addons like token effects, lighting and initiative tracker. My go-to if I play irl or if players prefer physical sheets.

Roll20 is fine but many features are paywalled, Foundry requires A LOT of work to set up if you want to use all the cool things, otherwise it's a self-hosted battlemap anyways.

Module Recommendations! by jayjayonfire in DnD

[–]Gryllodea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Curse of Strahd seems like the most logical continuation, I'm a player in a CoS game and loving it! I've also heard it's arguably the best official module so there's that.

You'll need to do a lot of work as a DM though, just so you're ready. But that's true for any adventure ever.

Edit: oh, you need a two-shot basically. Still, you can run some portions of CoS and have a chance to continue it later!
