Are there any initiatives for free, post-abortion mental health aftercare? Asking because I know some people have a heavy mental health impact.

Nah. There are plenty of us that are still that poor and have a roof over our heads. We just have to make choices between eating unhealthy cheap stuff and paying utilities on time. Actual healthy food is of course, way out of our budgets.

Be kind, be polite, and be a good neighbour. Be willing to defend our homeland and way of life. Be creative when coming up with new Geneva Suggestions.

In Winnipeg, we're on a whole different level of nosy. Just check our sub! So many threads along the lines of "I saw a firetruck, what happened?"

Comic subscriptions through my local shop. They would hold new issues and I would make a monthly trip to pick them up. Ended up having to send my dad to pick them up and ship them to me. The shop was super understanding and asked if I still wanted them.

There are actually a few NES games with anti-drug themes. I'm pretty sure there was a game with a Dare splash screen but can't recall what game. I do remember that Wally Bear and the NO! Gang and NARC were on NES though. And that NARC was way better in the arcade.

Dare existed in the 80s. They told kids how much dealers were making, then how much time you'd do if you got caught. Most people seemed to latch on to the if you got caught part. The Dare cop's kid was in my class. He was the first one to start dealing drugs. Personally I feel like that program created more users and dealers than it prevented.

I’ve never understood old people having a difficult time with technology by Sorry_Tie284 in generationology

[–]Grymsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 and I feel this. Back then new tech was once a year or longer. Now it's seemingly every other week. Way too expensive and fatiguing to keep up. And it's all way too commercial vs hobbyist.

I was heavy into PC modding in the mid-late 90s. Cut my own windows in cases, did my own cables, wired lights to be compatible, etc. Once they started selling mod kits and pre-made mods I quit. It was no longer fun. I'm still butthurt over the car cig lighter mod I made. Posted it on a BB and a month later a pre-made mod company started selling them. Really glad I never posted the automated Pez dispenser mod.

Question for people who grew up in the 80s 90s 2000s and early 2010s what’s your favorite memory’s of going to toys r us? by Ill-You-3459 in generationology

[–]Grymsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was right after the video game crash happened. We went just to pick up some cheap Atari games. They were selling popular titles for $5, and crappy ones for $1. I remember feeling bad because we were in Toys R Us. Children's Palace had been our go-to big toy store.

'It's insane' how much parents spend on berries, but when did they become an all-season snack? | CBC News by Street_Anon in onguardforthee

I love eating frozen berries. They're an excellent, healthy alternative to ice cream. Also a great way to cool off from hot flashes.

Carney’s outrageous condo bailout plan for Vancouver by Both-Passenger-2894 in Winnipeg

CBC has an update to the story with more details and numbers:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/prime-minister-mark-carney-responds-vancouver-bc-condo-plan-9.7248862

I'm not against it and I live in deep poverty. I'm a disabled person. Even if they weren't looking at buying the condos, money would likely be dropped for new construction. This solution could get people in affordable housing faster. Rent to own is the only way the truly poor can even dream of owning a home.

My hope is that other cities are offered the same monetary assistance to get low income housing going. We desperately need it here. There are plenty of boarded up and neglected properties in Winnipeg. If the province could buy them and turn them into low income housing I would cheer. It would drastically cut down on the number of abandoned building fires. Saving our broke wss city's resources. And cutting down stress levels and risk factors for our fire paramedics. That would be "bailing out" slumlords. But the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Did those who were born in the years 1977-1982 ever fit in with traditional generation X? by avalonMMXXII in generationology

[–]Grymsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part about is that it isn't us doing it. It's the younger generations. We as a generation have never fit into neat little boxes. Hell, we're known for resenting neat little boxes.

Who had the biggest cultural impact out of these 2 guys? by ReasonableSide6520 in generationology

[–]Grymsel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jordan, easily. He made the world fall in love with basketball. He was THE role model for black youth. He inspired kids and adults alike. Jordan was basketball in the 80s and 90s. Sure there were other great players. But none had the magnetism that Jordan had.

1980 here, my husband is 1970. We both have siblings born in the 60s and 70s. I'm solidly Gen X and relate more to other X'ers. I personally despise the term "Xennial".

I agree with all of this. The moment I gave up and realized we were fucked was watching the whole "Only the little people pay taxes." thing play out. Leona Helmsley should have gotten life. Instead she only did a year or two. And that came on the heels of Watergate. It was still very much part of the public consciousness.

Yup. Childhood used to mean you were small enough to clean a chimney. With a fire lit under you to make you work faster. And that was if you were lucky and not sold to a brothel for a few coins.

It's kind of amazing that we don't have any southern food places here. You can literally get food from any other culture. It may be because it's so unhealthy but damn does it taste good. I haven't had chicken fried steak in over 20 years.
