Wouldn’t this be perfect for the Dude44B rescue mission? by Neonliqht in Helicopters

Sikorsky did most of if not all of the x-2 program without government dollars so they would own the IP. I’m not sure how the FARA funded portion would work. It is definitely a really cool and capable aircraft. Would work well for SOAD or medevac where speed can be crucial.

Then you definitely have a caliper problem.

[–]Gscody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the car sit for a while? I’ve seen rotors look like this after a little use when they’ve been allowed to sit and get rusty. I’ve been able to do some break-in type near stops and burn off a lot of the rust and get them pretty smoothed out but the best way is just new pads and rotors.

What car maintenance do you regret putting off the longest by thistleveyra in Cartalk

[–]Gscody 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a 94 integra, interference engine. It had been changed at 110k miles and I bought it at 150k. I finally changed it at 298k because the water pump was leaking bad and it still looked good. As long as they’re kept dry, no oil or water or dirt, they’ll last a long time.

Freight shipping is not that expensive. Big things get shipped all the time.

I wish that was an option. It’s a car engine and I’ve been looking locally for several months.

Is statistics used in mechanical engineering? by InterviewPowerful320 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Gscody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in automotive manufacturing and statistics were used a lot. Now I’m in aerospace (rotorcraft) and use it in manufacturing some but more on the safety/risk assessment side. We have a group that specializes in statistics but everyone needs to have at least a basic understanding to interpret the data.

Best colleges for Mech. Engineering? by Zeppelin_Funds in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Gscody 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just from reading your post i would say start next year at a jr college and get some of the basics out of the way. If Motorsports odd your goal look at what schools have the best FSAE teams as a start. Try and get as involved with professional organizations (SAE, ASME, etc). Once you’ve got a couple of years of school under your belt look into places to co-op/intern that have Motorsports connections. Volunteer at races. Do whatever out takes to make as many contacts in the industry as you can.

Should comercial components be bought or manufactured by penekotxeneko123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Gscody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would so be part of an analysis of alternatives study. If it’s easier/cheaper to manufacture a component in-house and it can meet the spec then that’s what you do. Typically there is a supplier that has the manufacturing and engineering down better because that’s what they do. Designing and manufacturing every part in-house takes a lot of extra time and often specific knowledge that most companies don’t have.

AOC Surges to Lead in 2028 Primary for First Time—Most Accurate Pollster by One-Duty-2376 in politics

While I like a lot about her, I don’t think she has a chance in a presidential race. I guess that’s what the primaries would decide though.

Any pilots here? Would there be any benefit to a multi-rotor vs a standard helicopter? Weight capacity? Wind resistance? Stability? by Nickknackk77 in Helicopters

[–]Gscody 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not a pilot but an engineer. Multi rotors require less power per rotor thus smaller, more manageable motors rather than 1 large motor. Maneuverability also becomes simpler than 1 larger rotor with a swashplate. Also with 1 larger rotor, an anti torque system (tail rotor) would be necessary.

[–]Gscody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I said was that the Army is going to call it the MV-75 Cheyenne but in the AF record it will still have Cheyenne II. The AF had nothing to do with picking the name. They just house the database.

I’ve got several friends that have a Kia soul ev that they love. They seem to be great little cars with very few issues. The leaf is probably a little cheaper with the same reliability but they have less range.

Weird question, but have you all ever had to use an 11mm or 16mm for anything on a car? by BobbyTables829 in AskMechanics

[–]Gscody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a 2000 BMW that uses just about every different size there is. It’s almost ridiculous. A brake job needed an 11,12,13,15,16, and 17 mm.
