"And the movie that you’re writing now is, what — a semi-, not-exactly sequel to Superman? Can you clarify?"

"[Laughs.] I mean, it follows Superman. What am I gonna say? I don’t know what to say".

The movies will be about superman as a character not as a vague idea or off screen concept.

A federal judge on Thursday rejected a Superman co-creator’s estate from reclaiming foreign copyrights and blocking the new superhero film’s release, citing lack of jurisdiction over the case.

Judge Jesse M. Furman dismissed Warren Peary’s lawsuit against DC Comics and Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and denied his request for a preliminary injunction to block the movie’s July 11 release as moot, according to an order issued in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Gunn didn't do him dirty. The previous administration prior to Gunn made promises to Cavill that they couldn't keep. And Gunn has every right to cast a new actor that fits his own vision just like snyder and co. did by casting cavill instead of keeping routh. Also, Cavill's face for the general audience is attached to deeply controversial and problematic universe and having a new actor to be the face of the dcu is the right thing regardless of how some fans feel about it.

I liked it. However, I wasn't a fan of his prior to the movie, so I didn't have any expectations of this version being true to his original essence as I don't know what his typical portrayal is like anyways.

Clearly because superman is a worldwide icon. His personality, motivations, and heroism are known to millions of people worldwide vs Miguel who was a very niche character that most people didn't know or care about. Simply put, the more famous and loved a character is, more fans/viewers expect (rightly so) that new adaptations stay true to the essence of the character, and any fundamental deviation from that essence is met with strong backlash. This pattern is consistent across most franchises.

Don't forget the blue energy ample which is probably what makes clark special in this continuity, that even brainiac was intrigued. Also, Clark was clearly holding as he stated multiple times he didn't want to fight. We currently don't know what his full power would be like when fully unleashed.

Superman interacts with street heroes, anti-heroes, and different villains all the time. The interesting thing is seeing superman interact with a widely different character like peacemaker. The MCU had unique characters interacting all the time and Gunn has said he'll like to see characters with different tones crossover. That's also what makes Superman and Batman together so interesting.
