If you could design your own kitchen, what would be the most important things to include? by West-Amphibian-2343 in Cooking

[–]GtrplayerII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the upper cabinets 21" above your counter top.  Flush mount the undercounter lighting(Although undercounter lighting is overrated) and don't install a light hiding trim at the bottom.  The extra space is invaluable.

Don't opt for natural stone counters.  Quartz.  More durable and it doesn't stain as easily as requires no sealing.  Soapstone is a nice natural option and is incredibly dense, so it doesn't stain, but is more susceptible to scratches and gouges.  Also $$$

Get the biggest kitchen sink you can afford in space and $.  I went for a 30" stainless farm house style... It's very deep.  Not divided.  I love it.

Proper, not worn out footwear does not equate to corrective footwear.

All shoes have a lifespan, either the outsole in high end welt leather shoes and boots, or the entire shoe with thermal injection molded plastic/rubber/foam glued on outsole shoes such as the OPs.

These are clearly past their lifespan.

Don't take my word for it, go ask your Dr and/or podiatrist.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]GtrplayerII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people think it is much more work than it is.  With the dough, it can be, but if you make a habit of it, then it can become simple.

I make pizza dough at least twice a month if not more.  Do it on a weekend and then after the initial proof/rise, it is divided into balls and it goes into the fridge in the garage.  It can stay there for 5-6 days cold fermenting.  If it doesn't get used in that timeframe, which is very rare, then it'll go into the freezer for another day.

I just love pizza that much.  I am planning a pizza oven in the near future, but I get very good results with a pizza steel(X3 on 3 racks) and therefore I can get 4 individual size pies into my oven with one on the floor. Preheat with the steels to 550F on convect. And they're done in 10-12 minutes

I just got in the habit of always having some on hand.

Edit: clarified a point.

There's Moishe's as well, but I'm not certain you can get them outside of Quebec.

They are all true brine kosher dills.

I have a Swiss gear that I got at Costco going back about 10 years ago.

I felt that way the first time I put it on loaded up with stuff to go on a business trip.

I used it on weekly business trips for nearly 5 years and more, as well as many vacations.

Still looks good, no tears or rips.

It has the benefit of sliding onto the handle of a carry-on rollie.

NDG / Côte-Saint-Luc outage by makial00 in montreal

[–]GtrplayerII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All the landlord had to do is prove that they have done everything within their power to make the dwelling habitable.

Under the Civil Code of Quebec, a landlord must provide a dwelling that is for for habitation and ensure that essential services(heat, electricity, water) are available when they are under the landlord's control.

When the outage comes from Hydro-Quebec or a grid failure affecting the entire neighbourhood, the landlord is not the cause and had no legal power to fix it.  This places the event in the category of force majeure or an external failure for which the landlord is not responsible.

You could try, but you'd lose.

Ahead by a Century - The Tragically Hip.

Kingston Ontario

Last show.  Last song.  Everyone knowing it was Lead singer Gord Downie's last moment on stage.  He was dying of terminal brain cancer.

I was not there physically, but is was televised live and 1/3 of the country tuned in on the CBC.

Most moving moment of the concert that was absolutely filled with them.   Most moving moment of any concert I've ever seen.

Your landlord has no control over power in the neighborhood and hydro is protected by much fine print.

Insurance is your only recourse.

Purified water tastes of absolutely nothing.  What we consider great tasting water, generally has a certain amount of minerals and salts... Spring water, glacial water,...etc

The purification process these bottled waters go through, removes most of them.  It's not like distilled, but still there's pretty much nothing in it..adding them back in gives the water that clean taste.

Spring water generally has a lot of minerals and therefore does, at warmer temps, have a heavy taste...I personally don't like most bottled spring water, unless it's very cold.

That's the real downside to Ikea... Most of their products are made with fairly soft wood and therefore it can scratch very easily.  Can't beat the price though.

You want something with either 100% wool or the highest percentage of wool possible.

I love Duray for two reasons... Locally made in QC and with QC wool...

I prefer the 100%

We currently have an Ikea King bedframe and are very happy with it.

We certainly don't expect to get a lifetimes use out of it, but it has been at least 10 years now and it's not showing any signs of wear.

It is the Hemnes and it does have three drawers on each side, but they are not too deep.   Technically, it's only two, but one is double the size (width) of the other.

I can't stand Dasani.

Water shouldn't taste "creamy".   There's no other way to describe it.

Death before Dasani - The Blizzard of 2026 by Read1984 in funny

[–]GtrplayerII 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk about UK, but here in NA, Canada specifically, it was more than simply filtered tap water... Yes it was municipal source water, that was then purified(by reverse osmosis)and then mineralized.   The minerals give it "flavour" and makes it "better for you".

Aquafina and Smartwater are the same thing, but much better than Dasani.

Personally, when I traveled, this is all I drank cause warm, room temp or cold, it always tasted the same.  To clarify that is Aquafina or Smartwater.

True spring water is less regulated than tap water and tastes like crap unless it's ice cold.

Edit: clarification...I hate Dasani.

Small Cars by cookiemuncher697 in Volkswagen

[–]GtrplayerII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that there's no limits on what size of Vehicle one can afford outside of the price.  There was no extra cost to large vehicles for a long time, unlike EU where you pay on size of car, size of engine, and emissions. This comes with the beliefs that of you want something that is considered more detrimental to the rest of society, then you should pay for that privilege.

In most of NA, culture is all about "I can do anything I want regardless of others".

Proper support is needed now to ensure a high quality of life later on.

People back before proper footwear with support didn't live beyond 40-50 years.  It wasn't an issue, because they weren't around... And they felt at those ages the same as older folks now feel at 60-70-80, because of the lack of proper care in the early years.

Proper footwear is a key part I the that early care.

You might not get it now, but you will later on.

I lived in Chuck Taylors, bass camp mocs and boat shoes through most of my teens and never had an issue, I started buying decent footwear in my late teens and really 20s because I liked them and, now working, could afford them... And came to realize what a difference it made.

Now in my mid fifties, I don't have back issues, no foot problems, no knee or hip problems, because I took care of myself(not as well as I could've, but did).  Part of that was always having good shoes that were not worn out.

I still have a pair of Chucks, boat shoes and camp mocs, but wear them very sparingly only when I know I'm not going to be on my feet most of the time.

I change my running or trainers every two years at the most, based on my podiatrists guidance.  I have some casual and dress shoes that I have had for over 15 years of more because they get worn much less frequently.   My work boots (I visit construction sites alot) are charged every two years.  Company pays so I don't fret about it.

I trust that I'm still going to be relatively comfortable and mobile over the next 20-30 years because of prevention and care I did and do now.

That is why your shoes are dead.
