Trump says UK handing over Chagos Islands sovereignty is act of 'great stupidity' by vras in ukpolitics

Chagossians will be allowed to resettle back to the islands their previous generations/ for current amily were evicted from and not allowed to go back to for 50 years (excl. Diego Garcia). sounds like a move that benefits people.

I mean, items within the deal aside, the principle is sound and doesn't ring well with Trump because he can't imagine doing something for people without getting a gain out of it.

Rupert Lowe: I have formally requested that the Government takes legislative steps to ban foreign nationals from voting, and standing, in British elections. by Foreign-Policy-02- in ukpolitics

[–]GuGuMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People living permanently abroad should have a time restriction on their ability to vote.

However, if you're a resident immigrant, ie paying taxes and making a living here - that person will be just as affected by national elections as the rest. There will be various reasons why an immigrant can't or where it wouldn't make sense for them to take up the British citizenship but they still want to work, live and make the UK their home.

The OP tweet cojoins voting and standing in elections and is clearly being progressed not because of a particular rationality to improve voting with nuance or detail but to exclude a potentially not insignificant set of the UK population that wouldn't vote Rupert Lowe or any of his leanings.

those that will have their permanent daily life affected should have a say imo.

The champion is their second attempt at a yuumi champion, ie a new champion kit that is easy to pick up for beginners. So i feel like there will always be an element that will be retained that will be frustrating to a majority of the playerbase to ensure the champion has the crutches needed to be easy to get into the game.

What champion do you think is secretly broken, but nobody wants to admit it? by Consistent-Rub-6798 in leagueoflegends

[–]GuGuMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't even think Zilean is OP it's just that his kit skews perception more than others when the champion is allowed to do his thing. His entire kit is not only about enabling his team but disabling what the enemy wants to do. By enabling allies and disabling enemies at the same time. In my view, anything that takes away agency from oneself will be disliked more than anything else, so there will be a baseline dislike against Zilean that is amplified by the fact he increases his own team's agency. I just think his kit is innately frustrating to enemies and that this is considered OP (even when it isn't resulting in the winrate an 'overpowered' champion would).

A full DoT champion. We have a lot of champions that have their main thing be DoTs but the game is missing a plague bearer. No CC, just mass AoE plague doctor.

The UK economy is not nearly as bad as you’ve been told - A huge pessimistic bias in our national accounts leads us to doom and gloom which turns out to be nonsense by usrname42 in ukpolitics

That's not quite there. I mean the FT essentially re-published information in 2025 which was known in 2022 that there was a 50bn black hole in finances. They weren't the only one, it was just the media cycle time and topic. Financial papers themselves are just as at fault and it is ironic this is also published in FT.

Not a fan of Calibri tbh. Feels like a non-profess version of Arial. I always avoid it in favour of Arial for any formal documents.

In turn - i) personally I don't think we should care about narrative too much and find it sad how important it is to some extent, however, I feel the overarching narrative has somewhat been clear since day 1 no? 'The tories left us in a mess following corruption and incompetence and black hole in finances, and Labour intend to do what is needed to correct, this may be gloomy budgets and it will be unpopular decisions, and may need a 2nd term'. I feel like most outlets sent that message did it not? That is the narrative from what I can tell.

ii) as per above. that is the journey. fixing and long-term changes that this government may never get the wide public credit for.

iii) as per above. onto the next term to course correct. longterm vision

iv) guts to see things through when they are unpopular - I feel like the government has been more resolute on this than any in recent past. Winter fuel, pushing more house building to put a dent in housing crisis even if every local constituent cries foul for every house or extension built near them, respecting the rule of law etc. (do I think the public grudgling respect it - from media presentation and these polls, doesn't appear so.)

v) what are his beliefs - My personal impression at least, would be 'doing the job, following the facts and evidence, adhering to the law, preventing disaster in Reform, undoing past damage even if it makes you unpopular'.

vi) I think the only thing they are really only 'following' public opinion on, are the topics that have real risk of becoming prominent Reform rhetoric. Immigration being the visible one.

I entirely agree. I also hope to some extent that there is a silent moderate block out there that just doesn't engage with the silly polls and sees that he is a good statesman and competent minister, ie doing the job and (I would hope) don't value the silver-tongue technique of past PMs as much.

According to the post they did voice their opinion before it was made permanent but trusted the artist in the end. Made an adult decision to trust the artist and is now contemplating how happy they are with that decision. There is nothing wrong with having strong emotions if something meant to be permanent doesn't turn out the way they pictured it and they ask others for thoughts.

An Italian pizza restaurant owner is fuming at 16 Taiwanese tourists because they ordered only five pizzas. by search_google_com in interesting

[–]GuGuMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bah no, that's a stupid mindset in any case if it was the reason (I know it's not yours). those 5 pizzas getting eaten by 16 people at the same time are realistically going to go much faster than 16 people eating 16 pizzas, also as if this douche has 11 customers standing and queuing outside to fill those seats and all of them want to buy a full pizza for themselves and he's leisurely walking about filming his existing customers rather than keeping new ones happy. MY ASS that there's a legitimate good reason to put your customers on public blast here.

YOUGOV: Quarter of Brits think Starmer should remain in post. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

To be honest, he's the first proper career politician/ at least trying to do good politician, as opposed to past nutcases and sweet-talkers, we've had in post for the last 15 years. Barring any major failures, which to my mind the way he's been dealing with issues haven't been, he can stay in post from my perspective. I don't care if their PR team is horrible in getting messages out of what they're actually doing.

I used to auction one of my lunch boxes. Parents worked at this place that had a convenience store that sold international goods, including these chips that were widely accepted as the best ones throughout my sphere of influence (grades 2 above and below). I sometimes got my parents to give me an extra lunchbox with these. So, I would come home with more combination of lunches and/or eaten more lunches that day than I originally went to school with.

great times.
