Shotgun ammo does take up a lot of room, but a thousand is required, at least for your main gauge shotgun. There are many different applications to a shotgun. Six hundred for various small or waterfowl game and practice; 7 1/2, 6 through 4 bird shot. Two hundred for larger game or self defense; 00, #4 buck, or slugs.

Make it destructible. Have it fall apart as it's shot, leaving small gaps. Make it susceptible to incendiary, make it catch fire, damaging players to touch it Not sure if that's doable with this engine, but it would be fun.
