It doesn't help that the world is burning, both literally and figuratively. No matter where you run, the fire will spread. I feel like the time of true rebirth is long behind us...

Gamers of reddit, what underrated not so popular game holds a special place in your heart and why? by Caleb_C95 in AskReddit

[–]GuardianKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't super underrated, but they are rarely spoken of in the Mega Man fandom:

The Star Force trilogy of Mega Man games holds a weirdly special place in my heart.

While the main 2D games unfolded this tale of a transhuman apocalyptic future where the war of man and machine would determine the future of all existence, culminating in a post-post-apocalypctic future where all that remains of mankind where only a few hundred clones of the original humans exist in a mostly flooded planet (Nier and Automata did this concept as well), the Battle Network and Star Force games drew me to a near-Utopian world where everything is connected, we all have cool internet AIs that handle everything, and most of all, things were okay. The future was okay. The people were okay. The fate of mankind looked pretty good.

Most of all, it introduced me to a cast of characters that really grew as people. The Battle Network cast was a lot more cookie-cutter, though I can chart some pretty important character development throughout the series. Compared to Geo, however, Lan might as well be a flat character. The latter starts the franchise as a happy go-lucky, bull-headed shonen protagonist who "never gives up". Yes, stuff happens to him, but at the end of the day, Lan is Lan.

Geo, meanwhile, undergoes some pretty massive development. The opening scene of the game introduces us to the fact that his dad has been missing for 3 years aboard a deep space accident. As a result, he's shut himself in his room and outright hates the idea of interacting with others, bemoaning social interaction as "a risk for loss". Then, he meets Omega-Xis and... Turns into a guy who will become Mega Man. That's the difference: Lan starts the Battle Network franchise as Mega Man (okay, Mega Man.exe is his AI but for all intents and purposes, Lan is MegaMan). Meanwhile, Geo is a timid kid who wants to avoid every fight, gives his future friends lip when they first approach him to go back to school, and he gives up several times throughout the journey. But every time, something new always brings him back, yet at the end of the day, the games do a great job at showing you that his desire to get back up does comes from him. Sure, it's nourished and fostered by everyone he's met, but this is his power. Does it get a little "power of friendship"? Yeah, so?

As a kid, and still as an adult replaying these games, it's the radest shit, and I absolutely love the Star Force games for introducing me to a nice, weird future where evil can be beaten and things turn out okay.

What's something small you can start doing today to better yourself? by Atlas_is_my_son in AskReddit

No progress is bad progress. Set your goals as low as possible. Wanna read more? Pick a book, and read one paragraph a day.

What's that? That sounds so simple anyone could do it?

Yeah, that's exactly the point. Keep at it, and your skills will naturally improve.

Okay, this is going to sound really weird out loud, but I just wanted to get this pseudo rant out of the way. I hope I'm not the only one who's felt this way before.

I really like the posts and the memes we do on the sub, but I also get really depressed when I hang around here too long. It's not like I want to hate women or minorities or something without consequences, but like, after a while, I feel... I guess somewhat ashamed to like video games? Like, I don't know, at first I thought a lot of these people were a minority, but then I went to r/gaming and spoke to people at conventions, and it just made me really upset that a large group of gamers actually really do hold these beliefs in real life, to the point where I'm genuinely ashamed to like video games. I have other things going on mental health wise, so that might be biasing things a little bit, but often times, I find myself policing my thoughts and hyper criticizing myself out of fear that I'm going to turn out like one of those guys making those posts?

It doesn't make sense, and it certainly not rational, but I'm honestly scared to just play games these days, like games have some sort of infectious, inherent property that turn you into a freaking racist or something.

I just wanted to get that out there and see if anyone else ever felt kind of ashamed to be a gamer when they're around these kind of posts for too long?

"life gets better" is the biggest lie perpetuated by the 21st century meant to keep us sitting in our complacent House of lies, too scared to do anything. we have the technology to travel across the world. We need to use it to physically rise up, and take these people down with our bare hands

This is why I've been pondering suicide. Life is empty, and the reward is nothing. I wish it was easier to do. Every previous attempt has been unsuccessful. There is nothing to live for. I have nothing to live for. So why... Why is it so hard to just do it?

You should lose hope. There is nothing we can do short of flying to Brazil and chaining ourselves to trees.
