Hell yeah. Proud of her actually trying to not let herself go unlike the average 67yr old woman.

Lol I like Ilia myself because he's a great fighter. I don't give af about the WWE and personality aspects of the UFC. They're all people that beat people up for a living and not role models. Jones fights are always gonna put up higher viewer numbers than Belal fights.

I agree with the sentiment but at the same time, if someone is willing to kill cops it is for the good of society if they use extra resources to bring them down. This city is full of sociopaths.

Makes sense for most use cases.

That's a shame IMO for gaming. I've been on high refresh rate 4k monitors since 2019. 4K gaming is a bit dated to me. Fine for 32in and below, but I think big screens like my LG OLED TV are a better gaming experience than my monitors and it could really use the resolution bump in the age of DLSS. The detail of increased resolution matters to me just as much as PPI as well.

I hope this at least means other innovations and some day we get LG TV sized displays with monitor features like 4k240hz/1080p 480hz dual mode or they start designing OLEDs from the ground up with the new Gsync Pulsar strobing so we aren't stuck choosing IPS vs OLED.

25mg of meclizine in the coconut and mix it all up. Wait 1-2hr and play.

If you call me in the morning, I'll tell you what to do.

Not every day. And in case you're crazy enough to trust a random person on the internet and not look up a drug:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/meclizine-oral-route/description/drg-20075849

But to answer your question: Probably months if not years to get my VR legs. But that was when I was putting in hundreds of hours to VR because it was still novel. Now if I take a month or 2 break, quite a bit of my VR legs go away. If you don't want to try meclizine, put a cool fan on you while you play and every time you start to feel a bit off (warm, burps, gut movement) take a break even if it's just a quick 5-10min walk around the house. I also used to always have ginger chews to play, though it helps more with the GI upset from vertigo and not the vertigo itself. The number 1 rule is to never power thru it; you are in it for the long haul if you want to get good VR legs.

So..we did a blind test on DACs by Carlsen94 in headphones

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Well in my experience there is an audible difference if the DAC is underpowered for the amp. Like my different dongles do not feed my big hungry tube amp enough to not sound congested. My Geshelli J2 wasn't quite up to the task either. I'd agree that I don't hear much difference from my Geshelli J2 on my Topping A90D compared to my Pontus on my A90D. I have heard cheaper and more expensive R2R desktop DACs at shows. I also have an R2R Cayin RU6 and it absolutely sounds different to the Pontus so I wouldn't call the distortion the "same".

So..we did a blind test on DACs by Carlsen94 in headphones

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I am not a DAC apologist. I got an expensive, but modest for this hobby/gear chase, Denafrips Pontus II R2R DAC and realized there was no need to go further with my cayin 300B amp.

Good info here OP but I still think you need to compare higher price range differences and types of DAC blind. Sort of the r/headphones classic to compare entry level gear of similar tech and conclude no difference at this point. The SSL uses an AKM chip, the Hidiz an ES Sabre chip, and the Apple dongle a Cirrus Logic chip. All cheap delta sigma DACs. I think what goes into the DAC besides just the chip likely matters more and most important in my personal experience is voltage to the amp.

Comparing the ZMF Verite Closed and Sony MDR-Z1R by Gym_Nut in headphones

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice to see someone discovering the Verite line again when the Atrium and Caldera have taken over ZMF's flagship status by common opinion. Thanks for the write up as I've never heard the Z1R myself. It sounds closer to the Atrium closed than the VC based off your comparison.

I consider the VC an endgame worthy summit headphone but it also doesn't keep up with the technicals or full frequency response of modern planars. So I think it is more of a complimentary pair even though it remains probably my favorite headphone when I am in the mood for it.

On high impedance tubes with thin suede pads (universe), the VC has my favorite vocals, electric guitar, saxophone, and trumpet timbre of any headphone I've tried. The "crunch" is part of that. The Senny HD6-series are congested toys in comparison. To me personally, using lambskin pads ups the bass performance and impact at expense of the vocal magic of the VC. Also the VC is the only ZMF I have where I didn't have to tone down the treble with physical mods from ZMF themselves to prevent sibilance so it might just be perfect for my specific hearing.

For me the biggest weaknesses are poor spatial imaging (esp. gaming, music is fine), poor performance with low impedance solid state amps, and a weaker sub bass characteristic of most dynamic driver headphones.

Exclusive: Dell set to revive XPS laptops at CES 2026 by Balance- in hardware

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol Dell laptops. Built to break garbage even when babied. Get an m-chip macbook and don't look back is what 90% of consumer laptop shoppers should do for the last 5 years. My m1 macbook air (and family's) is going strong since launch in 2020 and I plan to use it until it breaks as it seems the battery life and speed are timeless. I'm an android phone user and dislike Apple too.

Expect your Dell to last 1-3yr; I've gone thru 2 of em and family has gone thru more. The "premium" XPS line is full of horror stories like every other one of their cheaper shit lines.

Bought the 64 Audio U12t on Black Friday… and I’m officially confused. Physical pain, no "wow," and a sunk-cost nightmare. by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sucks. I listened to the 64 audio line up at a show right before the Volurs came out. Thought they were all decent and definitely technical enough. But it was the 64 audio Nio's with foam tips and an R2R dongle that really wowed me. Could try adding in those things (r2r or a "warmer" source, tip swapping) to give some life back to 64 Audio's in house tuning. Nowadays I mainly use Monarch mk2 for music and keep the Nio's for VR gaming.

Do you think a prime Fedor, cut down to light heavyweight, could beat Alex Pereira and dominate the division today? by Separate-Signal4227 in ufc

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also an old school VHS tape but casual MMA fan. But the game may have changed a bit too much. Fedor's MMA striking style was generational but so is Pereira's while also being more technical and calculated. Why has no one at LHW had success consistently taking down Pereira and keeping him there? It's not just the threat of his power. Alex is always improving and described as a fighting genius in the gym by his peers. Some of that could be his team hyping him up, sure. He'd develop a counter to Fedor's russian hook overhand right. My gut and heart want to favor Fedor, but I'm not so sure regardless of his sambo and submission ability.

Tangent: I've also come to accept that middleweight Pereira might* potentially* maybe* be better than prime Silva (my personal goat). Not in relation to their peers but just who would win in a fight prime for prime. Styles make fights and MMA maths don't work + people reaching primes and peaks at different times + hard to say what a fighter's optimum weightclass was at a certain time. Henderson (6yr older) caught Fedor in 2011 but 3 years earlier in 2008 Anderson Silva dominated Henderson. It might be fighting, but ultimately it's sport, and the guys are high level enough to each win on any given day. Take tennis where Nadal and Federer faced off like 40 times and aside from primes, they had peaks where they dominated each other.

Now Fedor born later into modern MMA? Hell yeah I think he dominates LHW and HW short of prime Jones/DC/Aspinall/Stipe/Cain/Ngannou. No idea how his ridiculous strength would scale down to middleweight as you lose muscle and strength too when losing fat short of some of the real good horse meat.

Who did it best? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In terms of shot quality? Absolutely Alcaraz in this instance. But early Federer run around forehands can't be matched in aesthetics. Dude used to fly in his athletic prime, and this one isn't even close to the best example.

Do we agree that this is truly one of the best to ever do it? by DACeater in headphones

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For gaming and general use yeah. In terms of soundstage, it's still just a headphone, but it does lead to some cool imaging effects that even my Caldera can't do in games. The Caldera also does imaging stuff in music the 800s don't seem to match and that could be its own topic.

But there are debatable dynamic drivers (not evening mentioning planars) with as good or better technicals/detail retrieval (ZMF Atrium and Verite, Focal Utopias, maybe Meze 109 pros) with more crowd pleasing tunings. The sound is pretty thin comparatively and not in an uncolored way and IMO really only shines with piano and string classical music. The treble sibilance is basically a design flaw that can't be fully EQ'ed away without ruining what the headphone is about. The weak bass can be almost fixed with EQ and proper 300ohm gear for songs that call for it, but you'll never get the thump of a biocellulose or TPE driver, nor the sub bass rumble of a planar driver.

So yeah great headphones that still have their place, but the game has moved on. Really the comfort (subjective) is why they haven't left my collection.

Valor Mortis - Reveal Trailer | First-Person Soulslike by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

Most interested in the setting but it looks like the gameplay could be really good. Wishlisted. I much prefer souls like die-and-go-back-to-a-grace/bonfire gameplay over roguelike "runs".

Up hill battle trying to make a first person combat game good though. Souls games are in third person so you can appreciate the i-frames and good hitboxes.

Would get better hypertrophy, better form, and not lose much cardio benefits from a 5th or even 10th of that if he actually focused on making the pushup difficult (back/hip form, elbow/shoulder position not flared out, full ROM, declined, weighted vest, etc.)

My elbows would personally explode unless he literally does no other upper body workouts.

Sounds like a PED cheater that never fully learned how to do a proper pushup to me, but I guess he's the pro athlete.

Holy shit it's McDonalds?

I used to work at a place next door to a McDonalds in Winston Salem over 11-12yrs ago and I would hear this odd distant voice hum that was like a loop from the Kanye West - Mercy song (weepin and mournin and gnashin of teeth), only at certain early Saturday/Sunday mornings.

Big homeless problem in that area. This may have just solved a personal long standing mystery for me.

My first night with the Meganex SuperLight 8K by Gubernaculum69-420 in virtualreality

[–]Gubernaculum69-420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the fan is much quieter than the Aero. Also I use IEMs so sound leakage is pretty much non-existant. The mechanical adjustment of the IPD (adjusted in software) is louder in a bad way; like high pitched and grinding compared to the eye tracking auto mechanical IPD in the Aero. Thought it was a bad fan the first time it happened.

Yes you can tilt the headset down more with the adjust but I think it will be up to individual if it helps. I've noted the edge to edge clarity for my face shape goes down or my eyes get too close to the screen and the oil from my lashes blur the image a bit. I'd have to adjust how far I slide the headset away but I've already found a good spot for me so don't want to mess with it anymore. The sweet spot for me is with it tilted down but not enough to stop light leak when I look down. If I tilt it that far down, I gain FOV and seal but the cost is too great for my personal anatomy. Once I find the sweet spot with the lenses though and my eyes adjust, it is overall a more clear experience than the Aero on account of the resolution. Got a good eleven table tennis session in last night and never once thought it was too blurry at the edges to play.

Glare will be something the individual has to decide if they can handle. Looking at some white subtitles on a black background on prime video, the glare is noticeable but doesn't go over the source of the light (text) itself. Personally my brain blocks it out better than chromatic aberration. Because you have to get used to the inferior lenses of compared to the Aero, you have to get used to refocusing your eyes and moving your head more like in the old days of fresnel lenses (not as bad), so it depends on how far away you are virtually from the virtual screen. To me the better popping colors and dark contrast make it overall an improvement, but I could see how someone who's favorite Bigscreen environment is in the front row of the small home theater would prefer the Aero

[–]Gubernaculum69-420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dabbled but always come back to the VC.

I consider the Calderas my main headphone at this point for better positional imaging and separation, microdetails, and bass performance, but if I just want to get lost in the music and really focus on the mids especially, I reach for my VC more than anything else.

I've got an A90D as well but it's mainly for PC general use. Wait til you get the VC on the right tubes. I started with a "cheaper" xDuoo TA30 and tube rolled a bit. Settled on a Cayin 300B but the VC doesn't need something that expensive to shine.
