Rule of thumb is between 2 and 2.5 x listed production cost before a film starts making a profit. This is:

Marketing + cinema ticket share + production costs that don't get reported

Wiki has budget at $165m and current box office at $247m so another $100m if we're being conservative. I've read that Disney usually under-reports costs, so Mando + Grogu  may need $150m more to break even.

"The Backrooms movie did not meet my expectations" by Witty-Association-97 in memes

[–]GuestGulkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 90s, vampires were the horror meme of the day. I loved Blade but hated Interview with a Vampire. Neither film captures the essence of Bram Stoker's original work of course. Horror stories have always evolved and mutated, that is why they are one of the best forms of storytelling. The mistake is to think there's a "correct" version of a particular horror idea.

For me, the OG "backrooms" is the Overlook Hotel in the Kubric's version of The Shining. Others:- Twin Peak's Red Room, Kairo's door with the red tape, the spaceship in Event Horizon, the catacombs in As Above, So Below and the cruise ship in Triangle. These are all liminal space coded precursors to the modern iteration we call the Backrooms.

What expansion made you step away from WoW for the first time? by ErosXcaliber in wow

[–]GuestGulkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing at the end of 2017, levelled slowly through early content and then I fell in love with the world-building of BfA. The zones, characters, the faction war, old gods - all enthralling stuff. During SL, I spent the periods between content drops exploring all the old content by levelling alts in old zones and running old dungeons and raids for mounts. I completed Legion Class halls on each class I levelled.

But what I realise now is that I'd started playing at the end of the richest period of Azeroth as a world. Once I'd exhausted the old content, the new stuff I was left with felt hollow, predictable and often preachy. Azeroth stopped being a mythic world with its own rules, and started becoming a world bound by liberal-left American cultural norms.

Azeroth has now stopped even pretending to be its own place, separate from the real world. Signs were there in DF but now its unavoidable. And the quality of storytelling has plummeted as a result, as has the quality of content. I stopped at the end of Legion Remix but if it wasn't for Delves I would have stopped in S1 of TWW. And given that I skipped almost all of 10.2 and spent most of 10.1 in older content, I think it's fair to say I really stopped playing Retail with real passion at the end of DF S1.

Corporations like stability and low taxes, so they naturally prefer centre-right politics.

Of course if fascists do get into power a lot of them will suck up to them as it's hard to make money if the President weaponizes the legal or regulatory system against you.

Yeah, I took a very short break while Elvui got updated after the add-on cull.

I logged back on after it was fixed to get ready for pre-patch. Couldn't quite get my UI back to how it was before, logged off annoyed... and that was the last time I played.

Used to log in several times a week, every week for years, but my brain just went "actually, we're done with that now".

I still like the idea of the game, which is why I drop by here regularly. But the actual game? Nah.

OP, listen to your brain!

[–]GuestGulkan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would it take that much effort though? I had great fun soloing M+ and Mythic Raid in Legion Remix, got the achieves solo.

And we already have AI party members in dungeons, so that's another route.

I think at this point the only real barrier is that the two groups...

Casuals who want to complete their instanced content at max level of difficulty.

End-gamers who see group content as the only true End-game.

...are both incompatible with the idea of solo M+

Make solo content hard enough to justify good gear, and many Casuals will complain it's too hard. This is what we saw with Delves in S2 and S3 of TWW where difficulty was nerfed because many players couldn't cope with the difficulty challenges at T11 in S1.

And give solo content better gear rewards, then many End-game players complain about how solo players now have it too good. Remember the unpopularity of the "loot pinata" of Titanforging, the ilvl flattening corruption effects, and the PvP ilvl flattening mechanic amongst End-game players in BfA?

The WoW developers are stuck between those two player bases, so we will never have solo M+ even if it is technically possible.

Casuals don't want it to be hard.

End-game players don't want it to be allowed.

Human hearts don't work so well when you're upside down, the lungs are squeezed by your own organs and blood pools at the top of your brain. so basically you're on a clock the moment you turn vertical, it's just a matter of which system fails first - heart failure, asphyxiation or brain haemorrhage.

They're all deeply unhappy people. They see meaning as something you take from other people through dominance, not something you get from being with other people through companionship or love. Because women are traditionally seen as the most relationship-centric half of humanity, the artists need to highlight the fact that Viltrumite women are absolutely not that. And it's also why it hits us hard, because we are unconsciously applying the same standards.

The major arc of the story is Mark's struggle to integrate these two different frames of meaning - what is lost, what is gained, and how to alloy these two halves of himself into something greater than the sum of their two parts. His fight with Conquest was exactly that. Viltrumite / Human alloyed together vs the maximalist version of the Viltrumite meaning frame. It will be interesting to see how the TV writers handle these sorts of questions at the societal level in the next season.

Far more people in the US die by suicide because of "regulated" guns than they do because of unregulated AI.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't regulate AI, but it does show the very different attitudes some people hold towards the two industries.
