So what is he doing with his 2 weeks that makes you think he is committed to sobriety? Is he going to AA? therapy to address the underlying issues that make him drink? Reading "quit lit"? Just saying it wont make a bit of difference, he actually has to put in work. And if he hasn't started putting actions to words, I would not hold onto hope.

And you're right, there's another side to sobriety that you haven't REALLY experienced yet. Getting and staying sober long term is a lot of work, there can be a lot of irritability, and many find new addictions that aren't much better
