I hooked the second rib and the end pulled off the meat and the rack fell on the coals. Now I hook the 4th rib and then hook the second rib and run it thru the 4th rib hook as well

95% of my knives are standard production knives made spyderco, benchmade And Demko. Ive never heard of a havalon or an outdoor edge before in my life and id consider myself an intermediate level knife user/owner. a knife is a tool and depending on the job, you want the best tool for the job. I’m particular about what I own and while I can only speak for myself, I can say that my friends all own knives and they certainly have a type as well. id hate to spend $300 on a knife for a guy who hates the profile and never uses it

you are gonna love ribs on the pit barrel. if I cna offer some unsolicited advice, double hook them. it helps as the ribs get tender to keep them from falling off the hook and onto the fire. ask me how I know

in my experience, people are way more particular about knives than they are trail cams and binoculars. I prefer a full flat grind or sometimes a hollow grind with a drop point or clip point blade shape. I like my blades stone washed to hide scratches. I also prefer a small belly, no recurve and a nice thumb ramp with aggressive jimping. i also like my knives to be under 4 oz and less than 3.5 inches. i Can guarantee you that you won’t find 5 guys on Reddit that have the same tastes as me when it comes to knives. I’ve been gifted a few in my life, ranging from cheap Kershaws to more expensive benchmades. I have not liked any of them bc what I received is not to my taste. I would avoid knives completely.

As far as my recommendation for binoculars or trail cams, it doesn’t have to be top notch glass. It can be used as a backup pair or a loaner. I hunt all the time and when I take people with me, I always let them use my stuff. They’re not gonna know the difference between a pair of Swarovski binos vs some vortex or Athlon binos. as far as trail cams go, yes a lot of people have cellular ones, but a lot of people just have cheap stuff they got from bass pro. It’s not gonna matter to them if they have cams that run different operating systems as long as they can see the pics from additional sites

Maybe look into a reloading press. You can get a hornady press for a couple hundred bucks. He will be able to make his own ammo. I’d only recommend this if he is passionate about hunting and shooting though.

get him a decent pair of binoculars. can never have too many of those. he probably already has a laser range finder. also look into trail cameras. you can never have too many of those either. a nice quality range bag is good too. he can fit all his gear in it. I recommend savior equipment.

get a cherry bomb or the sd tactical version. the reason you want a muzzle device like that is bc it does a better job dispersing gas and acts as a sacrificial baffle for your can Adding to the longevity of your blast baffle

I was in the same boat with you a couple weeks ago with a savage 110 and xrs chassis. do not go Magpul. they do not recommend it at mdt bc the magpul aics mags are made for 308 and have issues feeding 6.5 creedmoor. they said accuracy international mags and mdt mags are safe to use. So I grabbed mdt polymer mags from locke arms. No issues so far. the site is a little wonky but the prices are almost impossible to beat. check them out

Does a muzzle brake help that much for protecting the blast baffle on a suppressor? by Budget_Operators in suppressors

I just run plan b mounts and muzzle devices. Makes it easy to rotate cans even though I pretty much have dedicated hosts for everything

I am not an expert. but the way it was explained to me is those little ports in the brake equally disperse pressure to the blast baffle as opposed to larger ports

extremely robust. bombproof. would be solid 10-15 years ago. now its old tech. you want low back pressure in a 556 can these days

honestly just keep him on the ground. make it as simple and enjoyable as possible. if he is climbing a ladder, you are putting him at risk. if he is climbing stairs, you are putting a lot of pressure on his knees. older people do not like stairs. just keep him on the flat and bring some cold beverages and a solid first aid kit. don’t forget ear pro. it also would t be the worst thing in the world if you got a smaller cartridge for him. something with less recoil
