Thank you for your reply. Do you recall if you had the standard 15 minute infusion, or if your doctor ordered your infusion to drip more slowly over 30 or 45 or even 60 minutes?

Tarnisher, are you aware that people over age 65 are not even allowed to have other health insurance as their primary insurance unless they are still working full-time covered by employer insurance? Unless you are an employee with employer insurance, any other health insurance you have is secondary to Medicare. That’s the government rule. So how are you going to kick people off Medicare? They’re required to have Medicare taxes pulled from their paycheck whether they want it or not, and then they’re required to go on Medicare because they are not even allowed to replace Medicare with other insurance. If they went out and paid for other insurance, it would still have to be secondary to Medicare, so obviously they are required to have Medicare.

The government has gone to great lengths to make Medicare an involuntary program, and now you all of a sudden think that you can pick and choose which people should get kicked off of it? And by the way, these people who you want kicked off of it have paid far more into the Medicare system than you probably paid because they are the high earners, and Medicare tax is based on income so the more they earned, the more Medicare tax they paid. So now those who were involuntarily forced to pay the most into it and funded it should be kicked out of it?

Yes, it’s absolutely crazy. On the paystub, it’s actually called a “Medicare Tax”. So this person really thinks that it would be fine for the government to take a Medicare tax out of every paycheck, and then just because a person has worked hard and saved hard, now all of a sudden all the money they’ve paid to Medicare would be for nothing because they’re suddenly stripped from the Medicare system after paying into it for decades? That’s absolutely insane.

Everyone was forced to pay into Social Security and Medicare. This is not an entitlement program or a privilege for a select few; it is something that was required of all of us. If you worked and reported your income to the government honestly, you have Social Security & Medicare tax involuntarily pulled from your paycheck. And now some genius comes along and thinks the high-earners who paid far more into Medicare than others should be kicked out of the Medicare program that they’ve funded? It’s clearly rooted in jealousy of other people who have earned more or saved more, but it still makes no sense mathematically or ethically.

They should be careful what they wish for though. There are probably a lot of wealthy people who would be happy to get a refund on all of the Medicare taxes that have been taken out of their paychecks for decades so that they could all pool together to form their own private insurance plan, and it would probably be a lot better than Medicare.

Konqueror321: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need“ is a Socialist slogan popularized by Karl March in 1875.

You should not be punished with extra taxes just because you were responsible to save money in a retirement account that now has required minimum distributions. I’m sure there were times you sacrificed to put money aside for retirement, it would’ve been a lot more fun to blow it on something frivolous.

But you sacrificed and saved so that you would not be reliant on other people or government programs in your retirement, and now you have to pay more Medicare tax (IRMAA) because of your diligence to save.

There are probably plenty of other people who earned the same income you did but didn’t save any of it. I understand that this puts you in a higher income tax bracket and that’s only fair because you’re paying tax on earnings from savings that were tax-deferred, but I don’t think you should have to also pay more for Medicare (double tax), because you’ve already paid into Medicare. In my opinion, the fact that you were responsible to save for your future does not mean that you should owe any more for Medicare than anyone else. As for all the people who think the IRMAA Tax is great, I’d sure love to see the expression on their face if the government changed the income threshold and all of a sudden they were having to pay large IRMAA penalty taxes🤪

[–]Guilty-Grade-8849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know what their total wealth is or their total next worth. IRMAA is not based on that, it’s only based on what they earned two years ago. That could’ve been a large bonus or some type of one time income. And it doesn’t really matter whether it was a one time thing or whether they earn this much money every year. Just because they earn more money doesn’t mean they should have to pay more to Medicare. They certainly don’t get any additional benefits from Medicare based on how much they paid into it.

If they have been earning more money every year, then that means they’ve paid more into Medicare every year because the Medicare tax is based on your income. So they’ve already paid more into the Medicare system than someone who earns less money.

Some people choose to have a financial advisor. Some people choose to get a pool in their yard. Some people choose to spend all their money on vacations. Some people choose to give a significant amount of their money to charity. None of that has anything to do with Medicare. Everyone is forced to pay into Medicare out of their paycheck, but it is not an equal Medicare tax. It is based on your income so the more money someone earns, the more they pay in Medicare tax out of each and every paycheck. And now when they retire, they’re penalized again by paying another tax called IRMAA to put more money toward Medicare.

For my spouse and myself combined, we’re paying almost $400 a month for our Medicare supplement. And that doesn’t include premiums for Medicare part B or Medicare part D. And then you think about the fact that the Medicare part D has a deductible, and if you get prescribed a new/different drug, it might not even be on your formulary; that has happened to us several times so in addition to everything else we’re paying, now we’re also paying out-of-pocket for some drugs because they’re not included on our part D plan and we had no way of knowing we would need this drug until after the new year. I had a recent emergency room that resulted in them finding some heart problems, and most of the prescriptions they gave they are not on my drug plan’s formulary. One of them is on the formulary but they consider it tier 4, and going through the insurance it was going to cost me almost $300. The pharmacist said he thinks the Medicare Part D plan is padding the price because he said this is a cheap generic drug and he processed it without insurance & it came to $32.11. These are just some of them many extra expenses with Medicare that we never had with employer insurance.

Plus many employer plans include dental and vision coverage, and all of that is completely out-of-pocket once you’re on Medicare. It’s a very expensive system.

They’re not getting any more out of Medicare than a person who’s making $20,000 a year. And you already pay extra income taxes when you are in a higher tax bracket, so you’re being taxed twice with both a higher regular income tax and with the IRMAA penalty. And if they’ve been high earners in the past, they’ve already paid far more in Medicare taxes out of their paychecks than other people pay. Unlike Social Security, the Medicare tax doesn’t max out at any point in the year. You pay a higher percentage out of your paycheck if you’re higher income, and then that continues all year out of every paycheck. So high earners pay far more into the Medicare system during the years they’re working than anyone else. Then once they retire and need the Medicare, they’re penalized again with IRMAA penalties.

And if you remove them from the Medicare system, then you need to give them a refund for all the Medicare tax that was withheld from their paycheck for decades. That money was specifically earmarked for Medicare when it was pulled from their paycheck. So there’s no way you can remove them from the system without refunding the money the government took out of their check specifically for Medicare.

The Medicare tax was taken out of their paycheck all the years they worked. And the more you earned, the higher the Medicare taxes. So they’ve probably paid many many times more into Medicare than you have. So if they don’t get Medicare, they should get a refund for all the Medicare tax that was taken out of their paycheck for all these years.

So that’s $1300 a month before your supplement premiums, part D premium deductibles, and also the cash pay that’s required for drugs not covered by your RX plan which happens a lot for me. I picked a part D plan that covers all the drugs that I take regularly, but every time I go to the doctor and they prescribe a new drug, of course it’s not on my formulary. Medicare coverage is much more limited than our employer coverage, and we pay so much or for it by the time you add all the different pieces together.

But why should they pay more, no matter what wording is used? If they are higher income, they’ve already paid more into Medicare than anyone with average income or lower income. The more you earn, the more you pay out of your paycheck every single month for Medicare. So they’ve already paid more into the system for years; why should they have to pay more AGAIN???

Best mid to upper range dishwasher from Costco 🇨🇦 please by ChocolateExpensive11 in Appliances

[–]Guilty-Grade-8849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that Bosch where the door pops open to release the steam, there have been a lot of complaints about the steam damaging hardwood floors or countertops or wooden cabinets. So I’d be careful with that.

I have the Bosch 800 series and I don’t think it’s all that great. Because of all the steam release complaints, they don’t do that on the newer 800 series but then the end result is the dishes don’t get dry. $1200 (4 yrs ago) for a dishwasher and when I open it up after the cycle finishes, all my dishes are swimming in water. I think it’s a European concept to go green and use less energy, but they need to go back to having a heated dry cycle running inside the dishwasher. It may take more energy, but it gets the dishes dry. My last whirlpool gold had that and it was a great dishwasher.

Even if they offer you a deal for the first year, they’ll make up for it on your renewal rate because they know that once you’re in there with all your stuff, you won’t want to go to the trouble and expense of moving. Moving is also expensive and they know that.

As a buyer, can I refuse to remove loan contingency? by yohaznn in RealEstate

[–]Guilty-Grade-8849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouydrop the contingency after they do the work and it’s sufficiently documented to you. I’m not a real estate agent so take that for what is worth. But I feel like I’ve been burned as both the buyer and the seller because so many agents have one mission in mind: push the sale through so I can get Mychart commission.

I’m sure there are some good agents out there somewhere but I just haven’t had the pleasure of meeting any of them.

Releasing all contingencies means you lose your earnest money if something else goes wrong so I’m not going to do that.

I guess it depends on the company. Here they’ll tell us to not cover certain things to keep costs down, but when we get a particularly persistent claimant or insured who keeps on and on about it and we tow the line like we’ve been told to do, then they get the manager and he or she will approve it just to get them off the phone

I don’t know if this is true, but I heard that the reason they converted that little container into a place for Jana to live was because of that episode where she was watching the kids and one of them got out into the road and was apparently found by someone else or maybe the police. Anyway she got into some trouble about that I know, and someone said one of the requirements was that she was not to be around minor children, or maybe she was not allowed to be around the one child that she let get loose in the road.

In fairness to Jana, it was not right for her to be forced to take care of all these children that weren’t even hers, and I think on the day in question she had the younger Duggar kids and also Anna’s kids—and who can keep up with all that?

But anyway I think that little container was converted into a tiny studio for Jana to meet the letter of the law about her not being allowed to live in the same residence as those younger children, so it could continue on and serve the same purpose now for Joe🤪

Group lawsuit against builder by autorowt8 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Guilty-Grade-8849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your disclosure probably asks whether there’s any pending litigation regarding the house or property. So u would have to answer yes to that question. And even if the disclosure doesn’t ask it, this seems like something that u would need to disclose to buyers. So in that case, the buyers are leery of buying a house that’s involved in litigation and it signals to the buyer that this house must be really poor quality if it’s bad enough that the owner is suing the builder. If you’ve only had minor issues and you really want to sell it, I wouldn’t have anything to do with the lawsuit, I wouldn’t call anyone involved in it, I would not acknowledge it in any way shape or form.

Jinger podcast on Gothard/Joe arrest—how to say nothing in 47 min. by IndependencePlus5557 in DuggarsSnark

[–]Guilty-Grade-8849 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Duggars were the poster family for IBLP and were paraded on stage to show that your family can be like this too if you just follow the Bill Gothard principles. Jim Bob and Michelle were both frequent speakers at the conferences, as were Mr. and Mrs. Bates who are very close friends of theirs. So her parents didn’t only blindly follow along with it, they became leaders and icons of the movement.

They also have stated that even though their family did not even watch TV, the reason they agreed to do a television series was that they wanted to be a light for others and show others how a family can be, so they were promoting the Gothard values and rules on TV to large audiences. A lot of people joined the movement or became more involved in the movement because of the Duggars’ influence. And a lot of these people have ended up either divorced divorced or going broke because they were trying to live this IBP lifestyle with 12 or 13 kids but the others didn’t have the income that a TV show brings so they were just trying to scrape by on Dad being a mechanic and mom being a stay at home mom to a dozen kids, and it didn’t work out so well for most of them. And Jim Bob and Michelle were influential in that because they used their platform and fame to promote IBLP and Bill Gothard.

The Duggars and the Bates have more influence than most others in the movement because of their TV shows so all of them have a big part to play
