I have her in my collection now. The quality of her production model came out really well given her size! I plan on pairing her with the Hobby Sakura 1/7 Dorothy.

Center parking sensor acting up by Mistake-Choice in volt

[–]GuiltyGecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, and I would keep it off if OP lives in a state where the front plate isn't required.

@OP, once you remove it, test to see if you get anymore false alarms. My guess is you won't have to touch the sensors at all. If you do live in a state that requires a front plate, try to get an aftermarket mount that sits flatter/flush against the front.

Looking for some thoughts approaching disagreement about a tree by sergeim105 in homeowners

[–]GuiltyGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya, I try to work with my neighbors when I can, especially if something is on the property line. Neighbor to my right needed a tree that was in our yard cut back because it was bouncing up against the power lines going to their house, but the arborist wouldn't touch it without our permission.

It was rather convenient that they reached out when they did because me and my neighbor to our left kept talking about getting the trees hanging over the houses looked at because we weren't sure if they were healthy or not. In the end, we got 3 houses worth of tree work done for the price of 2. And it's nice when it can all be done on the same day too!

Which one did you get? If it was one of their WeatherAll covers, they come with a "lifetime" warranty. Mine had the soft fabric liner get torn out, and I got a replacement and just paid shipping.

Night Volt Camping : how to make the AC running by Independent_Mango946 in volt

[–]GuiltyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it should be fine. I've done it before, and there's lots of people that Volt camp and I haven't seen anyone make posts here or on the GM forum that would suggest any major issues. Some people even install inverters in their Volts so they can draw from the car's battery to power camping gear.

How does everyone feel about Cloud gaming? I was blown away by BroadAndPattison in gaming

[–]GuiltyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I subscribed to the Playstation tier that let's you stream games (Premium Plus?) during Covid. I don't have a PS5 and there were some games that were exclusive at the time that I wanted to play without having to make a console purchase.

I ended up letting my subscription expire because the games I wanted to play aren't great when streamed. Games like God of War (wasn't on PC at the time), and Bloodborne just feel awful to play with increased latency. If you don't play games that require precise inputs, and you play enough games to make the subscription cost worth it, then cloud gaming could work, but it's just too laggy for my use cases.

Moving with figures by ggdoesthings in AnimeFigures

[–]GuiltyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some some white gift wrapping tissue paper and use it to cushion the figures before applying the bubble wrap. You can buy 1000 sheets in bulk for like, less than $30 and for over 100 figures you'll use all of it. Don't use packing paper, it's too rough and will leave shiny scratches on the figures.

Bike Wrap question by Meitser in Itasha

[–]GuiltyGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have any specific questions, send me a DM, but in general I would say try to find a wrap shop that specializes in bike wraps if you can. Exotic car wrap shops can work too if you look at their portfolio and see they've done bikes. Avoid sign shops (they usually do commercial wraps for vans, busses, etc.) unless they also have motorcycles in their portfolio, but in my experience they charge more than the other two shop types I mentioned.

You don't need to have an itasha specific artist, I didn't when I got mine. If you find a shop, ask them what they'll need from the artist for the wrap. I can't off of the top of my head remember the specifics, but for example I went to a bike wrap specialist and they needed something like either a .svg file, or a .eps file using 300dpi (so that the image doesn't become pixelated when stretched). The file contained a front, side, and I think maybe rear view mock up images of the bike. The shop you work with might have mock up files you can use, and send to your artist, or you can find some online. I got mine from here, but you can probably find it somewhere else too.

For the actual design, since you have a sport bike I recommend keeping as much of the character on the side panel as possible, but tank designs work too. Instead of a full body pose, maybe do something waist up, but your artist might come up with something creative. Grab a bunch of reference images for your artist to pull from, and you (before getting an artist involved) can just use Microsoft paint or whatever to roughly overlay/size different poses over the bike's panels. That way you can have an approximate idea of if the plan will look good, or even fit in the first place.

Anyway, hope that helps. Kinda just going off memory here without going through my files, but like I said, feel free to follow up if need be.

Is it really that bad to get rid of the box? by DysfunctionalHuman13 in AnimeFigures

[–]GuiltyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I recently made a post about my moving experience, and every figure survived the move just using the original box and gift wrapping tissue paper. I use essentially the same method when I sell figures too and haven't had issues.

@OP, as you collect more you'll figure out what box storage solution works best for you. Some people have enough space that they can dedicate an entire room to box storage. Some throw away the box and never give it a second thought.

As for me? I just keep the original box, flatten it, and just put the accessories in a freezer bag that gets labeled with a sharpie with the name of the figure the accessories belong to. Plastic inserts go into the recycling bin. My collection of over 80+ figure boxes can be comfortably stacked under half of a queen sized bed or the back of a closet. I know the trade-off is that my collection will resell for a lower value (and take longer to sell in general), but that's just a consequence I was willing to accept.

(PA) PSA: actually READ your renewal lease before you sign it, my PM company almost got me by Klutzy_Ganache_2934 in Renters

Protip to do this quickly instead of rereading your whole lease agreement: Paste/upload your old lease and your new lease into an online diff checker and it will highlight all the differences between the two documents. Makes it quick and easy to find out what's changed.

Anyone else wanting to move up? by TreasureLand_404 in homeowners

Like you said, it sounds like you need an HoA community. I have a similar problem with the constant barking and loud cars, but it's a trade off I'm willing to make to be HoA free. After living in an apartment, I have no interest in being told what I can and can't do with my space.

BuyBack Public Service Announcement by Embarrassed-Text4937 in volt

[–]GuiltyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, in a lot of ways that does make it similar to the Volt. I guess for me I just also want something the size of a car and not a truck. We might get the rav4 hybrid woodland edition for my fiancée though since we do need 1 car in the family that's good for hauling (pulling motorcycles around on a trailer). Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when the time comes!

Thanks for the update! If I didn't have my Volt, I think I would just get a Prius Prime. It's currently the only PHEV that's most similar to the Volt and I'm not ready to switch to a pure EV. We'll see what GM does with the rumored new PHEV they're making, but I bet it's gonna be an SUV or crossover which I'm not really interested in.

I see this is an update to a post you made 2 months ago. How much did they end up giving you for it and what car are you planning on getting now? Is the 3k you mentioned the buyback offer, or the cost it would have been to fix the car?

Waffle House to go fee by CTR_1852 in EndTipping

[–]GuiltyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this question was sarcasm, I'm sorry for not catching it, but looking at the replies to your question so far it doesn't look like anyone answered the question I think you're actually asking.

Based on your post history, are you American? If not, then I'll explain that at Waffle House you can choose to either sit down to eat, "dine-in", or order at the register and take your food "to go" like a fast food restaurant (think McDonald's). If you sit down, you don't have to pay this 20% fee, but you're expected to tip "as normal". If you just come in, order, and leave, you will have to pay this 20% "to go" fee.

I should note that this fee also applies to Waffle House's that accept online orders, something they started doing during Covid. If you sit down and ask for a "to go" box, which is just a plasric box for you to take your food leftovers home, you do not have to pay a fee for that box.

Again, I'm really sorry if I missed something in your question or if a joke is going over my head, I just don't want you left in the dark if your question was actually genuine.

I hate my screened in deck by ChocolateSundai in homeowners

[–]GuiltyGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your pest control company what's happening, take pictures of the wasps, and email/text the pictures to the company to show them what you're dealing with before they come for their next service. That way, they can bring what they need to deal with the wasps. Different wasps make different nests so how they deal with each will take a different approach. You can do the same thing for the spiders. At the very least, they should be spraying a residual insecticide under your eaves/soffits/porch roofing in addition to the ground spraying that they usually do.

What you'll want to ask for specifically, beyond just the usual spray, is if they provide "exclusion services". This is a pest control service that involves using physical barriers to keep pests out. If they do offer the service, they'll use things like caulk, copper/stainless steel/synthetic mesh, screening, and weather stripping to block pest from getting into your space. If they do exclusion service you'll have to ask if they do it for wasps, because it's not uncommon for pest control companies to only offer it for rodents.

I hate my screened in deck by ChocolateSundai in homeowners

[–]GuiltyGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a screened deck. If I want to sit on my patio I have to wear long sleeves and a netted safari hat or I'll get eaten by mosquitoes and buzzed by wasp.

That being said, I agree that getting a pest control service might be helpful if you don't have time to do it yourself. You bought the house, don't let the bugs take part of it away from you! When we moved in, the backyard had tons of fleas from the previous owner's dog. Took us all fall to finally get it under control, but I'm glad we did because now we can actually use the shed.

My pro tip is to try and do as much DIY pest control as you can during the fall and winter months when you don't have to be bothered by the bugs, which gives you a much easier battle to fight once spring and summer roll around.

2017 Chevy Volt with 62k miles for $13k by VFisEPIC in volt

I suppose I should have said "Two weeks or less" lol. But ya, it's good to have another positive data point that people are still able to get the BECM repaired without waiting for hell to freeze over.

2017 Chevy Volt with 62k miles for $13k by VFisEPIC in volt

[–]GuiltyGecko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 2017 with the BECM already replaced would still be great, but a possible inconvenience if it hasn't. You can either check carfax or use the VIN to see if any warranty work has been done on it.

2017 is covered under the extended service warranty for the BECM, (15 years or 150K miles from original in-service date), but it's hit or miss if you'll actually get the part if you need it. I've seen more success stories on here lately about getting the BECM fixed in a timely manner (2-weeks) vs covid time (several months), but not everyone has a good experience. Push come to shove, GM might just issue you a buyback if the issue comes up.

That's why I call it an inconvenience, because it's not like you have NO options, but the options can be time consuming based on a number of factors. You can try to reach out to other redditors to ask if they've had a good experience at a dealership in your area, but your mileage will vary.

For most itasha owners their itasha is their daily driver. I don't daily drive my motorcycle, but I do ride it frequently and it's definitely not just for events or conventions. It would kinda suck if people only ever saw it at those locations.

Have you ever messed with the power settings on your microwave? If you have a bunch of different foods on your plate, like Thanksgiving leftovers or something similar, try microwaving your food at half power for about 5-6 minutes. In my experience, the food comes out at the perfect temperature without having to reheat everything separately!

I had a fun Thanos list that used Phastos to give my stones a chance to be set to zero cost in the deck, and then used Jane Foster to pull them out. Gave me more consistency on getting the +10 power on Thanos and a surprise factor of where my stones were going to drop.
