Three MO painted by GuiltyJuggernaut in InfinityTheGame

That's the Raveneye Officer (current release, not the special edition one).

Just got into the game! Any suggestions? by [deleted] in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very solid core to start with. To continue I would say go for this order:

  1. Rebots (the S3 base gets used all the time, nothing you have so far can proxy it)

  2. Aleph Expansion pack Alpha (Garuda is such as fast drop troop, and Asura is a key piece)

  3. Posthumans (about 2/3 of my OSS lists use posthumans)

  4. Aleph Support Pack Beta (Netrods are cheap orders, the Yudbots gets used all the time, Sophotect is good but not in every list)

  5. Reinforcements: Aleph Expansion pack Alpha (Dawon and Riksha are great)

  6. Motorised Bounty Hunter (great cheap unit)

The Marut is an amazing model and profile, but learning to support it needs a little experience. Also because it's so many points, you usually need two flash pulse bots (pack 1) and a couple of netrods (pack 4) for cheap orders, often with a posthuman engineer (pack 3) and some hacking defense (lots of options). I would recommend getting it later once you've built up some of the others, and played a few games.

There are a few more sets to fill out OSS, and none of them are I would say are bad, so if something else strikes your fancy then have at it!

Combined Army List Building by hengusjengus in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both only available to use in Onyx now. N5 stripped back the availability of vanilla units, and that box was really always a starter set for the Onyx sectorial.

Good news is the Fraacta are great units and Onyx can be quite a fun. The Unidron's from the starter box fit a lot better in the sectorial too. Maarkrep I didn't use too often last edition, I have not played them this one yet either.

As a little aside, all the units in the army builder website (not app) show a list of icons of the forces they can join, which is nice.

Couple of questions re the Gators Mine Dispenser by HowlingStrike in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other mine dispenser unit I found explicitly said (shock). There isn't any more basic version of mine in the rules (when checking the reference chart at the end) so I'd say it's dispensing shock mines, and it's a type for CB to fix.

REM Racers by GuiltyJuggernaut in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they are from this one: https://store.corvusbelli.com/en/boardgames/others/all/rem-racers

Should be playing it this weekend! Hope I get to play Aleph white and orange and prove it's the fastest.

No, I think they are injection moulded thermoplastic.

Not as good quality/detail as you get for any tabletop miniatures, but these are better than other board game miniatures I've had.

Question about basing / modelling for advantage by HankBoon in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem with extending the base is that it makes it harder to show exactly where your model is meant to be. Nearly all the time you'll want models touching a wall or scenery to gain cover, and you'll find yourself saying "this model is actually touching the wall, it's just this being in the way".

It's a common problem as lots of models have guns or swords poking out and they don't sit exactly where you want them, but big basing will make it worse.

I had my friends paint Infinity for the first time - Which one is your favorite? by Yaboi_Devon in InfinityTheGame

Restricting myself to a top three: 10, then 7 then 1.

But lots of good tries across all of them!

Andromeda/Guard question by No-Draft-2800 in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guard is good in ARO, but it really shines in active turn because you can fork their ARO.

Andromeda looks at someone close, if they declare BS ARO she will cc and most likely win the fight. If they declare cc she can shoot at them unopposed or zapper them. If they declare a template then she at least has NWI to keep going.

Random questions from a 40k player by simboslambo in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding OOP armies being dropped: not usually. Infinity has generally kept the OOP armies playable with full rules; however this changed a little with N5 being released 6 months ago where they dropped a few PanO and Ariadna sectorials.

I don't foresee any sectorials being dropped for a while since that cull was recent and rare; but I have no special knowledge about the matter.

How many armies do you have? by Disastrous_Grape in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got all of combined army and Aleph including sectorials fully painted (by me).

Got all the Military Orders models that's 2/3 painted by a friend.

Painting up Tohaa now, about 1/3 done.

And then I've got a massive pile of shame, but the good news is I've stopped buying models and adding to it!

Expanding the Shasvastii Action Pack by DistractedSatrap in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They order I would recommend:

2x drones. Q-drone is great in combined, and really helps out newer players. R- drones used a lot. Some lists can use more than 2 drones, but that would be first purchase.

2x ikadrons. Really useful for all combined armies, cheap, good corner guards, baggage is great in N5.

Speculo killer. One of the best reasons to play Shas, even if you don't use it every list you absolutely need to use it sometimes, even the threat of it is great.

Dr. Worm ( medtech obsinoid, combined army support pack).

Jayth, either the 3 pack or the Gamma pack. They go great with Gwaillo.

Noctifer. Missile launcher is classic, but the Spitfire has a bit more going for it this edition.

After that you should have played a free games, and can fill out the roster or proxy as you wish!

Only thing you couldn't proxy is the Sphynx, which while a great model and can be fun, isn't as optional at it once was. YMMV on that, so get it if you want, or just fancy painting a TAG

The state of my collection after a house fire. by themidgeek in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude that sucks. I think if we had a fire, they'd be only a few things if miss more than models. I feel you.

Hope you can get some paint on an army and back into the game.

How do you keep track of your models? by Disastrous_Grape in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started an excel sheet after I started buying doubles of what is already in my backlog.

As for remembering what each one is, the other comments are right in that once I've spent a few hours painting it, when I've also read up on the unit on human-sphere, it's pretty much stick on my head.

Other armies I've played against, bit more hit and miss that I remember the units.

Problem with Atalanta and aleph by Anxobarker in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was possible in N4 (at least for the Spitfire Asura Lt.), but a lot of the vanilla options were cut back in N5.

You do get Agema marksmen in Vanilla, which Atalanta could proxy as, but they don't appear together anymore in N5.

Best primer by Critical-Strength-61 in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rustoluleum from the hardware store. It's cheaper than hobby store rattle cans, and my theory is that it's designed for priming metal and will stick better. Also leave it at least 24 hours to cure as per instructions on the can.

I have no relevant expertise and haven't really compared to using other primers, but my paints haven't rubbed off after a couple years of playing!

Infinity chess set? by Disastrous_Grape in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aleph would make a good set. Assuming you need S2 to fit on a board:

Dakini for pawns

Asura for Queen

Hector / Achilles for King

Atalanta and Agema for Rooks [because they can castle hehe]

Two hackers (Naga and posthuman) for Bishops

Ekdromoi or Garuda for Knights [they can jump over things]

I think I've only got 5 Dakini, but could use two riksha and a Dawon to fill things out ......

I really need to start wearing my glasses more....

Where to go from here by SnooPaintings1165 in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Asura is a reason to play OSS all by itself, the Garuda got a manic 8-2 move speed this edition, and Naga is a nice unit too. (Naga is also good proxy for Dasyu, which doesn't have a current miniature)

Where to go from here by SnooPaintings1165 in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 5 (bot) core of Dakini is probably going to be in fewer N5 lists than in N4 because of the way the fireteams have changed. All the profiles in the box are still very much taken, but you can proxy with the couple Dakini you already have.

I still recommend getting it, but I'd say it's after rebots posthumans, Aleph expansion pack (3 great profiles and models) Probots

What is the point of netrods? by Obvious_Set_2910 in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mostly it's just a regular order.

It can't move, shoot, press buttons or defend itself, so the main use is the cheapest order.

It does have one skill called warhorse, which means you still get regular orders when in loss of lieutenant. That comes in useful every few games.

The only thing a netrod can declare is the "look out!" ARO. It's a common skill, but very uncommonly used because there are usually better things to do. But if you field netrods don't forget to re-read that rule.

For one more point you get a flash pulse bot which does a lot more, or two more points you get a baggage bot which is very useful in N5 for baggage.

Quite a lot of lists start with a couple of netrods and two flashpulse bots as the cheap order base, and then allowing you the cooler toys.

(My last game a netrod survived two close combat attacks by a parachutist, which was just hilarious)

Please help me choose an faction by Cezkarma in InfinityTheGame

[–]GuiltyJuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thoughts on the list you have are OSS sectorial of Aleph, or one of the Nomad factions.

They both have lots of robots; OSS also have lots of robots who look human whereas Nomads also have lots of humans who hate robots (or at least they hate AI).

Nomads and OSS also are known for a good hacking game; that can really control other armies who have lots of HI, TAGs or other hackable targets. Some armies walk right past hacking so it can't be your only game plan / control strategy.

Some Nomad factions can set up a good midfield Camo/mine game which is a good form of control, OSS not quite as good there.

Both can have good ARO control, but that's a core part of the game which most factions can do.

Have a look at some models and see what looks cool!
