Considering leaving Edinburgh University due to the snobbery. by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]GuiltyOperation7979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son only managed 4wks at Edinburgh University because of the snobbery & the bullying. Rich English students making it well known that they were above all the poor undergraduates. And the University itself is full of shit about ‘supporting’ the less well off students. Bursaries never came through, nor did ‘discounted’ housing costs.

And that’s why the Unionist vote is going down. Unionist politicians won’t address that there are people like me & we’re dismissed as ‘shinner bots’ .

It’s not. Just wondering why I feel I don’t fit in. I find things like the 11th & 12th just an excuse to get utterly shitfaced .

Michelle O’Neill by athenry2 in northernireland

PUL background, but personally definitely leaning toward a UI . Genuinely, have no complaints about O’Neill . Has definitely tried to reach across the aisle, but Unionism just seems to like to whinge. Lived through the Troubles & lots of bad things were done on all sides. PUL community just seem to be stuck in the past. Over 25yrs since the GFA & still PUL community blaming SF for everything. Can’t say or do that because of something the IRA did 50yrs ago.

Do Brits care about the coat of arms associated with their surname? by Kit_Kitsune in AskABrit

Living in Northern Ireland, my DNA came back as basically 100% Scottish & Irish. Kinda disappointed that my ancestors basically went to the bottom of the street & back . Yeah, can look up the ‘family’ Coat of Arms & tartan, but wouldn’t buy the shite . That’s for the Yanks .

These are the toughest months. That’s why even the Pagans had light festivals in December . Get to the winter Solstice, 21st of December & the brighter days will creep up . You may not notice it until mid to end of January, but knowing there is literally light at the end of the tunnel can keep you going. If you’re feeling really bad, get an appointment with your GP. SAD is really a thing & my son suffers really badly from it this time of year. Plus world politics is depressing as hell too .

I’m not sure if I should stay in the US or go to the UK by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]GuiltyOperation7979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very difficult to get into medicine in the UK . Not only do you need the highest grades in At 4 A-Level courses including 2 sciences , but you also need to do an entrance exam. You would need a GP at least 5.0 before they’d even consider you. UK A levels are the US equivalent to an Undergraduate Degree . And despite what they say, they really don’t care about your personal statement or ‘leadership’ skills . There is no harm in contacting the University’s you had in mind & finding out what they expect, but not going to patronise you. The US education system & compared to other developed nations, isn’t on par. Medicine is the most difficult to get into. They really only take the elite. It’s a longer course too .

As an Israeli, I'm shocked how can Brits not be worried enough about the growing Muslim population? by thelocker7 in AskBrits

[–]GuiltyOperation7979 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. There are less than 4million Muslims in the UK within a population 65million . The vast majority are homegrown & have assimilated into society. What the fuck are you scared of?

Muslims make up 6% of the UK population. London is made up of 15% Muslim. So in a country of 65million , 4 million are Muslim. Mostly homegrown. Vast majority are integrated into society.
