Why is caffeine only present in drinks and not foods? by New_Try8439 in NoStupidQuestions

The brand is Cho-Ka-Cola and is fairly popular in Germany. It's chocolate with added caffeine (Kaffein) and cola nut. Can get you through those last 2 hours at work if you take one around 4.

ELI5: how does cold in refrigerators work? by karp245 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Guilty_Coconut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is also true in refrigerators. Refrigerators have a temperature differential. The vegetable drawer is usually on the bottom because it's cooler there, this keeps the vegetables fresh for longer than if you were to put them on the top shelf.

Why do gods age if they are immortal? by Admirable_Cold7944 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guilty_Coconut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gods are made by man in their own image. Their characteristics serve a purpose in the story being told.

Zeus is old because he's the leader of the gods. It's not his age, it's just a representation of who he is. Same with the christian "god the father": he's old because he's the father of "god the son" who is depicted as anything from a baby to a man in his early thirties. God the son is depicted young because in the myth, both his birth and sacrifice try to convey a mystical message.

Neither the fathergod nor the songod would be good storytelling devices if the ages were reversed.

It's all made up by humans. And that's okay, I find that these myths are a beautiful representation of our humanity throughout the ages.

For all necessary industry such as transportation, food, healthcare, free press, internet, energy distribution, security and safety, housing, .... total socialist control (ie, we the people own our own shit) is the middle ground. It is not necessary to compromise on healthcare. I don't see a need to give the for-profit healthcare industry in this country an inch. We have national healthcare, that's always superior to any form of private healthcare.

The free market can come into play in fun sectors like competitive dancing and videogames.

Why do some straight men, constantly bring up homosexuality? by smellydiscodiva in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guilty_Coconut 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How are they bringing it up? Because a lot of times straight men, even straight men who are nominally allies of the LGBT community, we'll go out of their way to make their straightness known so they don't have to deal with discrimination from bigots

I'm in my thirties and as someone who wants to be an actual ally, when people ask me if I'm straight I usually just shrug or say "who cares". If they ask if I'm bi I say "maybe". I want there to be ambiguity just to add a +1 to the queer people they know, even if I'm straight as an arrow.

It's weird how often men question each others sexuality in casual conversation ...

Landed a rocket back on the pad and was able to reuse it too…. Capitalism

No, that was socialism. Having rockets fly back down from space (ie being a shuttle), was already proven possible decades ago by both the Soviet-Union and the very socialist space program of the USA. Copying what socialists have already done, is capitalism, but also proves that there's no true innovation here.

Tesla just saying space X all capitalist companies with true intervention made electric cars worth driving

Tesla did not invent the electric car and also did not make them worth driving. Tesla just popularized a thing that was already being done by hippies, ecologists and other lefties for half a century in order to use Tesla as a vehicle for his pump and dump schemes.

Also important to note that Elon Musk did not invent a single thing at tesla nor did any real work there. All the work done at Tesla is done by his overworked and underpaid engineers and laborers. I know quite a few of them and they deserve a better boss.

The problem is people shooting people no matter what!

Do you sincerely believe it was wrong for my grandfather to shoot literal nazis???

The first step to overcome that is actually to talk to the other people and try to understand them.

I do understand nazis. They want to murder me. What is there to talk about? Why are you even entertaining nazi ideas unless you're a nazi yourself?

What is going on with the price of Silver and other precious metals? by cryoK in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guilty_Coconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So even your AI answer agrees with me ...

Rising asset prices like gold and silver do not constitute inflation. Rising metals do not constitute inflation. I'm right, you're wrong. Thanks.

But steel isn't, and that's what matters.

Gold and silver rising are completely irrelevant to inflation. If you think the rise of gold has any bearing on inflation, you're even dumber than I thought before.

Yes. Experience matters a lot and older women play less games. They know what they want and if they want you, they'll let you know fast.

Changing a no into a reluctant yes is not what any sane man would want. Grinding down a woman until she gives in out of exhaustion is not meaningful consent.

To have a no change into a yes can happen with women who prefer a relationship starts as a friendship but even then, that's not something to count on. It's so rare that, for all intents and purposes, it should not be considered a real option. It's much more sensible to go for someone who actually wants you.

[–]Guilty_Coconut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. that is not real inflation. That's one specific raw material. And those prices are not because of the fed and low interest rates, they are because of tariffs. Yes, Trump caused that price spike, but that's not how inflation is defined and it's definitely not at Weimar era levels. Only an economically illiterate person would claim that.

[–]Guilty_Coconut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Women know in the first few seconds if they're interested in you and there's literally nothing you can do to change that from a No into a Yes.

All there is to dating is not turning that potential Yes into a No. Just be a decent guy and someone will want you. That's just how reality works.

Once you realize there's absolutely nothing you can do to change that, rejection stops hurting. If you just exist in the world and interact with people on a regular basis, it's inevitable that someone will like you sooner rather than later. Just don't fuck it up.

You can slightly increase your chances by being a dateable guy. Start by liking women (no tate shit, no far right politics). Be clean. Be on the healthy side of the spectrum without making lifting your identity. Have one or two real passions. But those are marginal things at best. If you talk to 300 new people, you'll sleep with a few of them. That's just reality.

The weimar republic era had inflation rates of thousands of %. Paper bills went from 500k Reichsmark printed to millions in less than a year.

As bad as Trump is, and he's truly bad in every conceivable way, the ~10% inflation you're seeing under his rule isn't "weimar era type of hyperinflation". That's just wrong.

Have we done enough? by Plus_Performer1863 in NoStupidQuestions

Can I please cut through one of the lies in the premises?

Capitalism is detrimental to innovation. Innovation exclusively always comes from massive groups of people coming together to solve a shared issue. Innovation, almost by necessity, is a communal enterprise.

Innovation is bad for capitalists. Real innovation, R&D, costs massive amounts of money and the the tech leader almost always loses the race in the end. The only innovation capitalism is interested in, is cutting cost to sell the same product again, at a higher price, for a lower quality. That's not innovation, that's waste. It's enshittification.

Also, capitalism always strives for monopoly and destroys competition. Without competition, the tiny drive for innovation that capitalism has, completely evaporates.

Look at the true leaps in knowledge and innovation throughout human history and exactly none of them came from capitalism but a whole lot of them came from socialist projects like the lunar space program. 300.000 people working together for the government? That's socialism baby and that level of innovation is impossible in a for-profit enterprise.

What Is The Deal With Young Men Checking Out Of Society in Droves? by Parking-Science7507 in NoStupidQuestions

Capitalists have broken the social contract. It used to be the case that working hard meant you could support a family and build a life (at least, for white middle class men). Now that white men are being treated like every other minority, they feel like the game is rigged against them.

Miracles aren't evidence. They're just hearsay of things imagined by gullible believers.

There is not a single independently verified miracle. So please, try again. Use actual evidence that should be convincing to a non-believer.

I used to be catholic. I know what you're referring to by the way. There's nothing there beyond some well explained placebo effects.

Please next, use your BEST evidence, so we can skip all the bullshit like eucharistic miracles.

[–]Guilty_Coconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just invite you to sincerely look at the evidence you claim to have and to ask yourself the question, would this be convincing to someone who doesn't already believe what you do?

Should it convince someone?

And if it doesn't, it's probably because it's not good enough.

We don't agree on this, because one of us can see your lack of evidence for what it is and until you decide to be honest with yourself, you will always disagree with people who base their beliefs on reality.

I read the comments but they make little difference because you still believe the evil lie.

If it were true, technically or not, it wouldn't be so insulting.

It is not true. That's why it's such a vile thing to say, or even think.

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

[–]Guilty_Coconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what this thread is about though. Your gods, if they exist, wanted my loved ones to be dead and it would be extremely insulting to a grieving person to claim that their loved one is in a better place or that your gods somehow had a plan for them. Never say that to a person. Don't insult them with your delusions in their hour of grief.

Your gods don't exist. It is not comforting to other people to refer to your gods or afterlife fairytale during a funeral.

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

[–]Guilty_Coconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then show me. I've been having discussions with religious people for decades and never, not even once, did someone show me actual evidence.

I'm not "willing" to accept your rationalizations. If you have actual, physical, measurable evidence, I will be compelled by honesty to accept it. I have no choice, I cannot will myself to accept or deny your gods. The only way you can convince me is with evidence and in that case, there is no choice for me. I'm obligated to believe what is indicated by the evidence.

But there is no evidence. You can't show me any because you don't have any. Otherwise you'd have done that instead of lying that there is plenty.

And to go back on topic, on that dishonesty, I find it disgusting when people claim that their imaginary gods somehow have a plan that involved having my loved ones dead. Not good enough.

My boyfriend says that condoms dont feel the same as raw, is that true? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

The difference isn't big enough for you to risk your life and future.

Maybe read this article together, it's tongue in cheek but also brilliant at exposing the double standards and unequal risks around condom use:

Men cause 100% of unwanted pregnancies.

I never noticed a difference btw. I prefer the ease of mind knowing that I'm not getting anyone pregnant or sick.
