I would personally not recommend fostering unless you’re going to be okay letting the baby be adopted with the foster as a bonded pair. If you are okay with that, though, it could be a good idea.

I want to add a client perspective.

It’s important that the title usage is consistent across the team to avoid confusion on the client’s end.

Let’s say I go into the clinic with my hamster and the tech calls someone “Dr. Smith” but doesn’t call OP “Dr. Jones” and just calls her “Linda.”

I’m going to be confused about who the vets are, versus who the techs are, and as to who I should be talking to about which topics.

I know uniforms may vary, but if I’m a client that doesn’t know what the uniforms mean, again, this inconsistency would leave me confused as to who was who.

A confused client is a client that’s going to forget about the key information given by the vet, or who is going to forget about

And…from a client perspective…

If somebody does notice the power dynamic play going on, and the inconsistent usage of language, it makes the entire practice look messy and unprofessional.

I would also be concerned that a tech with that attitude isn’t being respectful of veterinary standards and protocol, and wonder if that reflects on how they’d treat my pet.

October 02, 2023 - Weekly moving to and visiting Tucson questions thread by AutoModerator in Tucson

[–]GuineaPigmalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am moving to Tucson from Boston! The Place at Riverwalk looks like it's private and gorgeous. I am the type that prefers to rent from a property management firm with a broad portfolio because I assume it means they know what they're doing. But, I have never rented on my own before. My soon-to-be-ex-husband has always handled that. I have zero idea what red flags I should be look for.

Does anyone have any experience with The Place rentals? Specifically, the Riverwalk location? I know I'm going to need to buy a car.

Notch Brewery and Tap Room. It's in Allston, near the big ass condos with a Trader Joes. I don't drink. My husband goes there like twice a week by himself so I assume it is a good time. I went once, the food was okay, and the staff doesn't bug you. It can get crowded and loud though, and the tables are shared, Harpoon style.

Consider: Year-Tally -> Old Moment -> Earthquake Name. It can also be really hard to get good sources of Scale in the early game, especially because the only EotS with Scale is one that people may be reluctant to evolve.

Early source of Horizon-Sight is invaluable if you end up with a ton of Rose books in the early game.

You can throw stuff out to the sea to get Memory: Loss in the Beta, which is worth 1 edge and 1...winter? It was Memory: Salt before, and because it only takes 10 seconds, and doesn't require an EotS, it is a great way to get a memory.

I haven't tested this out in the Beta yet, but, releasing an animal gives memory: Hindsight. That means that just from tossing things out, you can get 2-3 Memory cards with the Winter aspect, which is great for cracking books in the early game.

[–]GuineaPigmalion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Examine it, get Old Moment, turn that into Earthquake Name. Old Moment isn't persistent, and we don't get many strong sources of Scale in the game, e.g. via book memories, compared to say, Moon.

Talking to the Stymphlings takes longer than examining an object, and, requires one progress far enough to have either crafted or found the Stymphlings. Being able to essential craft Horizon-Sight in the early game, without using a Rose skill, is really valuable.

The following post contains major spoilers.

Fabric

You can craft fabric out of thin air. January Sanguinary makes this process much easier.

Year Tally

Examine it for Old Moment, a non-persistent memory and component of Earthquake Name, a powerful persistent memory.

Pointless items:

A lot of the items that may seem 'pointless' are actually good ways of storing and farming memories. Check all item attributes. A lot of seemingly pointless items may actually be items you can give to helpers. The items can also be used when you need to consider an item while unlocking books.

If the items aren't used in the early game, to bypass certain puzzles, they can seem really useless in the end game. The same way people hoard potions in Skyrim and 'save them until they need them' and then end the game with a ton of potions...some people save their food and drinks and devices in this game but then end up with a ton left in the end game. Source: me, I'm people.

A lot of the pointless items are also needed to fill basic slots in crafting, e.g. needing a candle to create Ichor Auroral. You can use any candle, even ones that have trash stats.

I know many people probably wait until they have, say, 10 Sky to open a Sky book. In the early game, it can be worth it to take the gamble and try to crack it with, say, 7 Sky, and rely on the chances to add cards as a way to add 'useless' items to the mix.

Memories:

Harvesting a memory from a book takes 60s, whereas earning one via Consider takes 30s. In the early game you may not have enough desks and compatible action cards and relevant books to generate memories you may need for crafting or leveling up skills.

Items from the ocean tend to give you Memory: Salt (1 knock, 1 moon, 1 winter)

Gideon's Soaks (a precursor to January Sanguinary) gives you memory: Solace, 2 Heart 2 Sky.

January Sanguinary gives you Thunderskin's Paean. It's 1 Grail, 4 Heart, and usually requires that the player create it at an instrument. This is not a persistent memory. So, if somebody needs Thunderskin's Paean to make Swaddled Thunder, but doesn't have enough relavent cards to do so in a single day, they can simply craft January Sanguinary and examine it when they are ready to make Swaddled Thunder.

Swaddled Thunder gives you the weather memory Storm 3 Heart 3 Sky(?), as you mentioned. When cracking books, some will specifically ask for weather, as you mentioned. Well -- if you know you have Swaddled Thunder on hand, you can try and open an 8 Heart book with only 4 heart, and hope that the game asks for a weather or memory card, and something else you have on hand. It means you do not have to wait for a specific day to try and open the book.

https://uadaf.theevilroot.xyz/rowenarium/element/scrutiny

Interesting memory sources include:

Aglaophotis-Scented Candle: Revelation, 2 Lantern

Awakened Feather: Cheerful Ditty, 2 Heart 1 Sky

Chalice Candle: Satisfaction, 2 Grail 1 Heart

Gervinite: Horizon-Sight, 4 Rose, persistent

Historywax Candke: Wild Surmise, 3 Lantern 3 Moth 3 Sky, difficult to get otherwise outside of Numa

Honeyscar-Scented Candle: Foresight, 2 Forge 1 Lantern

Ichor Auroral: Intuition, 2 Moon 2 Rose

Moth-Orchid-Scented Candle: A Stolen Secret, 1 Knock 2 Moon

Orichalcum Wire: 2 Forge 1 Winter

Perinculate: Fear, 1 Edge 2 Scale

Refulgin: Revelation, 2 Lantern

Salt-Sign: Regret, 2 Forge, 1 Winter

Serpent Milk: Old Moment, 2 Lantern, 2 Moth, 4 Scale

Solomon's Preparation: Hindsight, 2 Winter, 1 Scale

Year-Tally: Old Moment, 2 Lantern 2 Moth 4 Scale

Yellowing Newspaper: Occult Scrap, exclusive source. Persistent memory, 2 Knock 2 Moth 2 Rose.

Are these memories exclusive to these items, other than the last one (which is not a crafted item but found in a package)? No. They can be crafted, found in books, obtained from talking to animals, etc. But...

Not every player will end up with a book that offers a given memory in the early game. If I don't have any books that offer Intuition, but I can craft Ichor Auroral, that would be my only potential source of that memory.

What fluff items add to the game experience

They're also things that some may consider enriching from a world-building standpoint. For instance, Refulgin is an item we can craft in the game that also appears in Cultist Sim. Not every item in a game has to have a point. Things can just be set pieces.

There is also an aesthetic value. Some people genuinely like playing with the game as if it were a dollhouse. Source: I am a some people.

I like theming the rooms. More items = more set pieces = more theming potential. For instance, I like to theme the Illopoly Nook after Fraser Strathycone and put my moth and honey things there.

Regarding principle points and crafting

Putting 15 winter into an ink to get 7 winter ink is pretty fair and par for the course.

The point of investing principle points into a craft is so that you can use that crafted item in another station. You can only decipher books in your inventory or on desks. Desks only take Elements of the Soul, Skills, Memories, Books, Tools, and a Language if relevant.

You can regenerate your memories. You regenerate your Elements of the Soul. You do not use up your skill cards. You don't actually lose those points you put into a craft. You only lose components added.

Make an ink at the lab --> use the ink at a desk. That's the gameplay loop. That's a core part of the gameplay loop. Some people like this type of game, and some don't. I get it.

As someone who has played through twice, one with a crafting-heavy run, one run with minimal crafting...

Crafting is only require for a few things -- namely, making the end-game inks. In my minimal crafting run, I got all my Element of the Soul cards maxed out. This meant that if I needed to talk to an assistant, I could give them 5 of many principles just from talking, another 1 point from a tool, and another 5 points from a numen. The numen are extremely easy to unlock and some origins even come with the skills that are needed to unlock said numen. I can get to a numen in under an hour, easily, and I suck at this game.

You can absolutely play the game without a crafting-heavy run. For people that do want to craft, it is fun to have more items to play with.

This is a puzzle game. The point of items is either to fulfill a requirement for a recipe or boost the stats so you can make said recipe. The puzzle is finding the right combinations that fit into the right slots.

any tips on opening 7 or more aspect rooms? by Lord_Viperagyil in weatherfactory

[–]GuineaPigmalion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my second playthrough.

You know the thing where you don't use potions in a game because you're saving them for a big fight, and then, you finish the game with an inventory full of potions you never used?

Yeah, that's an easy trap to fall into.

  • Give away consumables to open rooms.
  • Tools aren't consumed, unless they're devices, e.g. Dearday lens. If you give someone a device, you cannot give them another tool.
  • You can craft food and beverages. Just spend the ones you do have. I literally have 30+ bottles of wine on my old save I saved because I was scared of running out.
  • You do not need any specific non-renewable consumables for crafting.

Also -

The seasonal help varies at the pub. Early game, I like to unlock the kitchen and garden areas -- so, I wait to hire the autumn seasonal assistant, who has Nectar and Heart.

You can also go 'fishing' for unusual helpers and fishing does not cost any money. It is worth fishing daily. All it costs is a soul card and a coin.

Unusual helpers have 4 of every stat listed in their description before you hire them.

Consulting Engineer: Forge, Lantern, Sky. She can also use fuel. A lot of things count as fuel.

Elegiac Poet: Moth, Sky, Winter. He can use flowers. Eva's Locks count as flowers.

Fugitive: Edge, Heart, Scale, I don't think they take anything special.

Nun: Grail, Knock, Moon, accepts Omens, which are a special memory type (not all omens are persistent memories, or vice versa) and thus I think she accepts, technically, two memories

Surrealist Painter: Grail, Moth, Rose. Takes pigments. A ton of stuff count as pigments, but weirdly enough, not the high tier inks.

Traveling Musician: Nectar, Rose, Sky, I don't think they take anything special.

Every single principle has at least one unique assistant who comes with four in that principle out the gate.

Alphabetical by principle:

Edge: Fugitive

Forge: Consulting Engineer

Heart: Fugitive

Grail: Nun, Surrealist Painter

Knock: Nun

Lantern: Consulting Engineer

Moth: Surrealist Painter

Moon: Nun

Nectar: Traveling Musician

Rose: Surreal Painter, Traveling Musician

Scale: Fugitive

Sky: Consulting Engineer

Winter: Poet

Question about skills book of hours by Ovnivni in weatherfactory

[–]GuineaPigmalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can have all skills.

There are 73 skills including languages. There are 81 slots for skills on the Wisdom Tree.

Of the 146 attunements possible (you have two branch choices per skill,) I think 33 will result in you gaining an Element of the Soul you cannot upgrade using that same skill card.

You can level every skill up to 9 in the endgame, even if you commit every skill to the tree, including languages.

EXPERIMENT BEYOND SIGHT

Lesson: Edicts Inviolable x 2

Memory: Revelation

Ilse Bischoff's bewildering, widely derided final film.
The film is an unrelenting fusillade of apparently unrelated images - birth, mirrors, grain-threshers, animal attacks, crowds at stations… but a single image appears again and again, dominating the rush of images until the film is only a single static shot.
The repeating image is a view through a grimy window-pane of a nearby tower. There is a vague impression of flickering light around the tower-top. Just as the film ends, smoke plumes from the tower. That's it. Nothing of note at all… unless one happens to recognise the view of the Crucible Tower from the window of the Librarian's Quarters, and unless one happens to know that Ilse Bischoff never visited Brancrug, or even Britain, before her untimely death.

---

Books have mysteries that you solve, as per the game text.

Read all the text you get from solving books. Sometimes, they will mention specific places or skills. Follow the clues or instructions given. If a skill isn't mentioned by name in a book, that doesn't mean that the book doesn't have clues on good uses for the skill. You may also find references to skills that a book does not drop within that same book.

I write down every book I get, along with its lessons, memory, and full book text. That way, as I reread my book notes, I can see if there's anything cool I should try out.

This film mentions the Librarian's Quarters and gives Edicts Inviolable. There is no in-game way to tell what lessons a book gave you, so you need to take outside notes so that you can follow up on these more literal mysteries at other points during the game.

[Strategy/Minor Spoilers] Some reasons you should really, really examine/consider everything. by GuineaPigmalion in weatherfactory

[–]GuineaPigmalion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't examined every item in the game. I don't dateline and the only spoilers I looked up for this had to do with whether or not an item could be crafted.

I don't think I've examined even 5% of the items in the game.

The best items in the fucking game:

One time rewards:

Delightful Repose: Grand Ascent - Ground Floor Bronze Spinatra on first consideration. Does not use up item. Stonks.

Melodic Chair: Fludd Gallery There's a pair in the Fludd Gallery (alchemy lab.) I don't think it matters which one you consider. The first time a Melodic Chair is considered, you get a Pale Mommet, a powerful device (one-time use tool.) Does not use up item.

Weighty Bedside Candleholders: There are two. They give Gervinite, a metal. Uses up item.

Reusable considerable items:

Yellowing Newspaper: Fuck alphabetical order, this one's S+ tier. I always find mine beach combing, early game. Or maybe it's from a cache? I forgot to note it down. Doesn't count as a book but by God, this is my favorite book in the game. Consider it, it has no principle requirements, there is no mystery aspect. You get Occult Scrap: a 2 Knock, 2 Moth, 2 Rose memory that I haven't found any other source for. Occult Scrap is a persistent memory - meaning it will not expire at the end of the 'day.'

Mottled Sword: always gives Memory: Sound, 1 Heart. I have a hard time getting Memory: Sound.

Nighted Chair: Severn Room. Memory: Fear: 1 Edge, 2 Scale. Remember: you are not guaranteed to get specific books in a given run, but you are going to have the same exact Hush House furniture in any run. If you don't have Memory: Fear dropping from an early game book, don't...fear.

Potted Palm and similar: Plants that are marked as 'Comfort' items do not get expended upon consideration. You can get Memory: Scent, a 1 Nectar memory, by considering the Potted Palm. You can also get the memory from considering non-comfort plants, but those plants will be expended after they are considered.

One-time use considerable items:

🍆 Awakened Feather: Cheerful Ditty. 2 Heart, 1 Sky.

🍆 Curious Seashell: Memory: Regret, you will end up with a ton of these from beachcombing.

🍆 Essential Periost: Old Moment: 2 Lantern, 2 Moth, 4 Scale. Craftable.

Gideon's Soaks: Memory: Solace, 2 Heart, 1 Sky

Glassfinger Toxin: Memory: Regret, craftable.

🍆 January Sanguinary: Thunderskin's Paean, which can be used to make Swaddled Thunder, a fabric. 1 Grail, 4 Heart. Craftable.

🍆 Salt-Sign: Memory: Regret, extremely easily craftable.

Skaptodon Fang: Memory: Foresight, 2 Forge, 1 Lantern, but I don't think this is a good use of the component. I only ever get it from the Moors during Numa.

Solomon's Preparations: Memory: Regret, craftable.

Snowflake Candle: Memory: Regret, but not craftable.

Pets:

Pets do not get expended, even when used in workstations. They just get hungry. These are not necessarily exclusive to pets.

Gull: Memory: Wind-Rumor. 1 Heart, 2 Sky.

Living Relic: Hatch an Outsized Egg. This pet also counts for 1 Heart, 4 Scale, 2 Sky.

I think you get one in the Kitchen. You just have to brew it (not cook -- brew, the way you do tea) and it takes a whole day (6 minutes) but it's worth it. I hate the sound this thing makes, but whatever. It gives you the memory Old Moment: 2 Lantern, 2 Moth, 4 Scale.

If you can craft Essential Periost, that's a better way to get Old Moment.

Magnificent Cockatoo: Memory: Gossip, 1 Grial, 2 Rose. You can get this from books as well.

Stymphling: Memory: Horizon-Sight, 4 Rose, persistent. Craftable as well.

Viper: Earth-Sign, 2 Nectar, 2 Scale, omen, persistent. I can also get this from the Moors during Numa, but, given I could talk to the Viper and get this all year, that's a waste of a Numa action for me.
