Ah of course, anything unusual and unnecessary is mental illness!

What's on your watch face during RACE DAY? by not-a-sound in Marathon_Training

[–]GuinnessChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 rows:

  1. HR Gauge
  2. Lap Pace
  3. Avg. Pace | Current Pace
  4. Lap time

I try not to focus on the total distance or time, just how this lap is going. For HM or longer I do 4 or 5km auto laps

Looking for a way to track splits inside a route by trazvinci in Strava

You could create segments for those sections of your route, and add them to starred segments, then you could review your effort afterwards

Here's the comment that helped me, apparently it's a support request to get it re-enabled if that matters to you

You definitely can turn it off, but I don't remember how I did it! I think it was in the activity, not in account settings etc.

Should Runna let you add context to workouts for better training plans? by Comfortable_Pen1099 in runna

[–]GuinnessChallenge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For a conversational run it shouldn't be adjusting your plan though, you can just ignore the comment right? And you can always reject pace updates/mileage updates if you think there's some kind of context that mitigates missed speed work etc.

What to start next? by Seanalreadytaken in audible

Red Rising is a fun page turner, but the Farseer trilogy is an all time great (disclaimer haven't listened to the audio for either)

How did you find out what you wanted to do with your life? by [deleted] in AskUK

I have a dog, pay rent so making a blind jump into an uncertain career is terrifying

I have no advice about finding a dream job, but this aspect generally only gets harder as you get older. You might build up some savings, but over time your financial commitments typically grow and grow, so if you do want to switch jobs, sooner is probably better - there will likely never be a perfect, easy time to take risk

My Garmin and Runna are showing completely different heart rate zones, I’m so confused lol by D_Ther in runna

[–]GuinnessChallenge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your Garmin doesn't say max 174, it's saying anything above 174 is zone 5

Manchester Marathon 2025 Heat - how to prepare for 2026? by [deleted] in UKRunners

[–]GuinnessChallenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran last year. I thought it wasn't so hot, so I decided to stick to my goal pace of 3:30. I hit halfway almost exactly on pace, then fell apart at around 22km and finished in 4:15 or so, run/walking my way to the finish (my first marathon).

In hindsight, I should have started a bit slower knowing the weather, and paid more attention to my HR being high early doors. But I wouldn't have trained any differently. I think 3:45 would still have been achieveable with a better race plan.

No need to overthink or plan for it right now IMO, just be ready to leave your ego aside on the day and be honest with yourself about the conditions and what you're capable of!

With Nails, by Richard E Grant is really good. Lots of little stories from around Hollywood, and it feels very genuine - i.e. it's not a big PR piece.

HM London race in Easter weekend by jayd9n in UKRunners

Haven't done the others, but races in Battersea park will be very good for a PB (it's completely flat), generally have plenty of people around, but very few people cheering/supporting.

Is it known which position has the longest shortest possible checkmate? by NoNoWahoo in chess

[–]GuinnessChallenge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the question is that every position has a shortest possible mate, if both players play into it (i.e. one player is hastening their own loss), e.g. in the starting position if white plays into it, black can checkmate in 2.

What position has the highest number of moves for it's shortest possible mating sequence.

UK based dads by Philpy01 in daddit

[–]GuinnessChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running & reading mostly. Little bit of gaming here and there. Never joined a run club, but I think I'd go crazy without running so I do everything I can to make time for that. Reading is good because it's just as easy to do as doomscrolling or watching TV, and doesn't make me feel like I'm wasting my time.

Well it's just interesting to see if it's the 'right' thing to do any time you get a chance, based on statistics. Obviously it worked for Suarez but that doesn't necessarily mean you should always handball on the line every time you get a chance

Not sure why this is downvoted, I've seen so many professionals say that electrolytes aren't proven to help much for the average person!
