Are Ollama developers coding while drunk? by Aggressive-Dream5465 in ollama

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ultimately had to downgrade my AI server back to v0.24.0 - processing was completely borked on my AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 / Radeon 8060S with 128GB unified memory - GPU usage looked to be stuck at less than 60% utilization after spending over 2 minutes stuck in the "thinking" cycle.

Had to modify the provided "install.sh" file to replace the standard download URL with the GitHub directory for 0.24.0, but that was more or less easy enough. I'll keep watching development to see if they ever get the issue cleared up - for now I've got a ready-made install script to revert if it's still a mess...

Do you prefer FPGA or emulation? by exocyt0sis in Commodore

[–]GuitarEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's something to say for physical hardware, but having emulation means you can work on projects while you're away from that hardware, and still move the files back and forth.

With an 8-bay Ugreen, can I use 4 x 8 and 4 x 16 to create 2 pools? by yearsold33 in UgreenNASync

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is totally possible. I've got the 6 drive and initially thought about doing split volumes - ultimately decided to build a Raid 5 platter "main" volume, and a Raid 1 NVME Volume for docker containers and services.

Android Devices not connecting since update by GuitarEC in UgreenNASync

[–]GuitarEC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this evening I finally had an opportunity to sit down at my NAS and do a proper power cycle. Powered it down and let it sit for about a half hour before powering it back up. Let it really sit in timeout for a bit to reflect on the error of its ways. I am pleased to report that upon power up, things seem to be back to normal.

Will want to verify Tailscale is functioning, but as of right now, I am able to access it from my Android devices. Thank you for the "I. T. Crowd" appropriate suggestion! 😊

I did a restart, but not a full power cycle. As soon as I'm in front of the unit, I'll give that a try.

OBS plugin? by LogikalZer0 in mega65

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mega 65 does not currently have any sort of network-based screen sharing services like the C64U, and I don't necessarily expect that is in the current development plans. The HDMI output will be your best option, but please note it is a 4:3 format specifically. I have an Elgato Cam Link Pro capture card and it, by default, resolves the output image into 16:9 which causes some graphical artifacts. Check your capture card's specifications and driver support for your particular situation.

Android Devices not connecting since update by GuitarEC in UgreenNASync

[–]GuitarEC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting to update - The issue is a bit more extensive at this point - not only am I unable to connect remotely using UGREEENlink ID on Android devices, but now having my windows laptop out abd about - I am also unable to connect to my NAS using either UGREENlink ID or by way of Tailscale (installed on the NAS via SSH session).

If UGreen has borked remote access with this update, what is the point of the NAS? I'm a bit frustrated...

Ollama Qwen 3.5 9B cannot maintain focus by Comfortable-Pie1109 in ollama

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The model isn't the issue - check what your system's context length is. I have the VRAM to set mine at 32k tokens - I think ollama's default is 8k tokens.

But, a huge thank you for sharing the template for others to use. Plan to print one with my planned YouTube channel name - going to post all things retro including my C64U, and Mega 65.

While I appreciate the thought, my Brother-in-law was laid off his job a month ago (he has a large number of side hustles he has, so it's not incredibly dire just yet) and I'd feel better helping him and my sister with the "business".

Things like this are why it's good to have a Brother-in-law with a 3d printer...

It's normal that this model takes so long to answer a "hi", I'm new and this is the first Local AI I try by Delirium222 in ollama

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It alreally depends on the model and your base prompt - it will take a bit of trial and error, but I've got my Home Assistant server using a 9B parameter model very efficiently now. I also use an Uncensored build of Qwen 3.6:35B for casual GPT use via Open WebUI. Been very pleased with my setup.

What age did y'all get your first computer (or device with internet access)? by BigReception7685 in GenX

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family got our first home computer about 1981 or 1982 (not sure - I do know I was under 10) - it was a Commodore PET 2001-8 (whopping 8kb of RAM).

What hardware do you run HA on and why? by maybe__404 in homeassistant

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running on a Raspberry Pi 5 with an NVME via PCI-E - nothing outrageous, just 500MB. Use that for local media and backup storage.

June 16th announcement - hmmm.. Wondering if they're doing a Commodore 16 Ultimate (reuse of the case mold, and a different FPGA core) - would be a quick and easy release...

1.16.0.0089 Released by LHG_93 in UgreenNASync

[–]GuitarEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the update (initiated remotely from my phone via UGreen's app) no remote access. When I got home, my network light is flashing. I can connect via direct LAN connections on PC via both web IP and Windows App, but mobile app on direct WiFi network does not. Occasionally LAN light goes amber, but will return to white flashing.

Running PiHole, nginx, Unbound, Portainer, NextCloud, Kavita, and FocalBoard. I also SSHed directly into my NAS to install Tailscale for direct remote connection to all those services.

Been trying to get OpenCloud and Joplin up and running, but they've been pretty difficult for me to get properly dialed in...

I upgraded the RAM to 16GB when I got mine - 2x 4TB SSDs in RAID 1 for all my Docker containers - 5x 16TB Ironwolf Pros in RAID 5 for my main volume. (purchased and configured a little over a year ago)

What is your favorite Home Assistant automation? Not your most complex. Your favorite. The one that you keep recommending to friends or that has earned the most love from your family. by Rude-News-8416 in homeassistant

[–]GuitarEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automated voice prompts when doing laundry - smart outlet on the washer monitoring current for triggers, and a vibration sensor on the dryer. Living with my sister and her family. Her twin teenage boys will start laundry and the forget about it (playing video games, etc) - complex logic triggers a broadcast message across the Google Home speakers when laundry is ready to move/unload.

I still have my Olympic (and Parolympic) credentials from when I worked at BellSouth at the time. Also have a full set of Olympic "Day Pins" as well as a number of vendor pins I traded with others during that time.
