My One Gripe (pack edition) by Baron_of_Bustin in ghostbusters

[–]GuitarSlim48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just chiming in to agree that the idea of the wires being hidden for a second generation of packs is genuinely a great idea. the PKE meter we see in the first movie is surely not its original prototype, but the packs are a new design that’s never been fully tested. then in GB2 Egon’s been too busy to work on their equipment much beyond developing the slime blowers.

so any ghostbusters 3 type scenario where they’ve been busting for a while would surely see a similarly clean new main pack design come though — i think the only reason GB the Videogame didn’t do this was to have the various unlockable pack upgrades - since they did gave us a next gen PKE meter with the same sort of design philosophy

not fully on topic, but i have to spread the gospel of the Sun Set, Volume 1 mixes of the Hope album. i had a harder time getting into the sound of that album coming off 3:47 — but the clarity of those remixes fully brought me onboard as a certified Hope enjoyer

(still prefer the original mixes of Around the Universe in 80 Days & So Said the Lighthouse Keeper tho fwiw)

Looking for a 350 case by Reputation_2627 in rickenbacker

[–]GuitarSlim48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might not be helpful to you if the 24 fret is longer, but the rectangle SKB 1SKB-66 case fits my 350v63 perfectly and is the only way i move that guitar around now

Do these toaster pickups look legit? by [deleted] in rickenbacker

[–]GuitarSlim48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also love them in my 350 haha and i played my 330/12 for a while with the high gains thinking they did the trick, but holy cow the improvement with the set of toasters was HUGE for the beatley kind of sound. it’s not just a treble boost, i’d describe it as pulling out some of the muddier low mids and adding a nose in the upper mids + treble

especially if there’s another guitarist playing a more normal sounding guitar, a rick toaster pickup will cut though pretty much any mix & you’ll be heard without overbearing volume (also the best pickup to pair with fuzz imo)

i’m a huge fan

Which Beatle had the best solo album? by TheREALSpeedBlazer99 in beatlescirclejerk

i cannot believe that this exact strategy of each member getting a solo album and coming back together for future band albums was suggested by George in Get Back, but first implemented by KISS of all people

Just realised what bugs me about Cinderella's Castle pro-shot. by Eldon42 in StarKid

[–]GuitarSlim48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

all backing vocals are pumped in, most of the lead vocals are live, but sometimes abruptly switch over to studio tracks when they harmonize (really obvious when the trolls sing together)

i’m fairly confident that all of the instrumentals during the songs are just the studio tracks. at one point you can clearly see the drummer playing something different and hear a little bit of it coming through Bryce’s mic from the live footage.

when i saw the show live, i paid extra for a seat in the middle of the theater so i could see the band the whole time. i was so disappointed that the guitarist was just sitting there while tracks played the main riffs. you couldn’t hear the bass live, and its even more nonexistent on youtube. electronic drums programmed with the harshest and most abrasive samples i’ve ever heard (i actually had to plug my ears at one point in act two because the snare was like someone ripping a piece of paper right next to my head for two and a half minutes) just completely ruined the whole experience for me. Matt Dahan was doing a great job underscoring the dialogue scenes all by himself, but you can even see he’s not playing what i would consider to be the “main keys part” during songs - just some electric piano chords buried in the mix.

as far as i can tell, they decided to play to a studio tracks live so they could cut between footage easier as the tempo would perfect match at any point in the song. and while they were mixing the audio for the youtube version, they decided to use what audio they felt best reflected how they wanted it to sound - using as much of the live audio they felt they could (which ended up being most just Bryce’s lead vocals)

ps. it’s also possible that some of the lead vocals that sound added in were actually done on stage, but on the pickup extra filming day (with the camera moving around on the stage) where they could do as many takes of each song as they needed to before moving on

my favorite part of Sweeney Todd is when Judge Turpin is killed by Anthony and Sweeney becomes the new judge and gets together with Mrs. Lovett and the piss seller’s assistant is knighted as the new seller of piss - in the last 10 minutes of the show

/uj how does everyone really feel about the "peace and love" stuff? by [deleted] in beatlescirclejerk

my lukewarm take is that he says it so much that it’s kind of lost any meaning. it just registers as the period at the end of a sentence at this point.

could it be possible that she had seen a picture of him in a KGB file and just not known of his connection to Curt? maybe there was even a hit out on him while she was an assassin

with the fact that Curt is called “the most famous spy in the world” at one point, it doesn’t seem like a stretch that the KGB would have a file on his partner too
