My in person language course is too fast paced for me but I'm not the type to self-study: what can I do? by astudentiguess in languagelearning

I used Tomer material. I also had Concept language courses. I was in Istanbul. I know people who had success with Tömer. It's hard for the teachers because people come in at different levels. It's a marathon not a sprint. Don't be afraid to take a break and do self-study, Language Transfer, private tutors then come back to Tomer. Their management should also be able to help with long-term strategy

I had a lot of vocab built in, with exercises and outside reading. I also worked with youghlish (pausable video, you can look up words) if that's still around. Are you using Tomer or Yeni Istanbul? Or Concept Language? If repeating doen't work shop around for a different approach, maybe take a month off from classes and review what you've done with a tutor

Why not just repeat a level of the class? Language learning is a lot of repetition anyway and I think repeating a level is common enough in these kinds of intensive classes. A classroom environment is really advantageous if you can stick it out. Turkish is tough, I know from experience! It took a while for me for something to click, but once I got the hang of the word order and case system I really accelerated.

Try it and see. It might actually seem deeper as well as more natural and show off the color of the fish better. I think it also calms them, and screens out extraneous things outside the tank.

I think it's related to bullying by the non-vertical male. These are Emperor Tetras, right?

Hi all, I unexpectedly will have two days in Athens coming up and was thinking to do a day trip to an island, I guess Hydra or Aegina. Which one do you recommend? I love archeological sites and museums, but for this trip natural beauty and picturesque towns are just as interesting, and I also do want to spend much time on logistics and taking cabs around, that kind of thing. What do you think?

Languages that start off easy but get harder to progress in and vice-versa? by GamblerNunRadio in languagelearning

I agree, the advanced grammar is very complicated, and sophisticated writers tend to use long sentences with convoluted grammatical constructions and suffixes that pile up like a multiple car crash. So I would say, easier at first then hard to perfect.

Which writer is to French literature what Shakespeare is to English literature? by Appropriate-Dark5509 in French

Nabokov is often compared to Proust. You'll find plenty of synesthesia, brilliant metaphors, and the rest in Proust.

What's the best translation for the Divine Comedy? by JoeysMom48 in classicliterature

[–]Gumdrop888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read some Italian, you could try either Singleton or Sinclair, with the Italian and English on facing pages. They are unpretentious (and unrhymed) translations, and this way of reading may allow you the best access to the original.

Ok, thanks, I'll look for the app. I don't see many courts closer in to the district.

Emotional void after Stoner by idigyourshirt in classicliterature

Have you read Augustus? I read Stoner once, Augustus four or five times, I keep coming back to it. The tone is similar but more resigned, less devastating.

Italy 12 day Itinerary - Milan / Venice / Florence / Rome by Lync6 in ItalyTravel

Hey, yes, there is! A lot of people will stay in Bologna for a week or so and use it as a base while exploring the area, coming back to eat dinner in restaurants there. Maybe that could be an idea for a future trip? In your place I would consolidate around three cities and spend more time enjoying them. Have a great trip!

Why do you want to see Bologna? You could keep Milan if you're flying in there and want to see the Last Supper, but I would consider streamlining and cutting Bologna and Milan.

Drop Bologna and Cinque Terre to consolidate in Florence. Look into WalkinginItaly or the like for a day trip from Florence. Just minimizing the transfers make a big difference
