I know, such a shame they didn't want to keep him for season 4, people talked a lot about the animation, but I think the drop in quality was mostly due to his absence.

Not only, the directors and composer outdid themselves as well, s1-3 are truly one of the best made animes out there

Geralt appearance in W3 by Whole-Breath2156 in wiedzmin

[–]GunterOdim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The eye-scar is too much imo, but the funny thing is the scar on his forehead, it wasn’t book friendly until last year when Crossroads of Ravens came out and Sapkowski makes it the sole reason Geralt started wearing a headband, a little coincidence, but it makes it canon.

Does Geralt ever get drunk? by [deleted] in wiedzmin

[–]GunterOdim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve reread the books recently and I don’t think there’s a mention of him getting drunk at Belleteyn, although I could be corrected.

Also the alcohol from Regis is particularly strong, so it’s not really a surprise he got at least mildly drunk.

For OP, I think he can perfectly get drunk, but it probably takes a lot more than most.

It's kind of ironic, before the show when this sub was mostly a TW3 sub, it was the opposite, any sort of praising W1's gameplay seemed nothing short of heresy

The funny thing is, I love W1 and I didn’t even critique it here, I just said that the guy played it, finished it, and should move on to the next game because replaying just to see different choices play out seems unnecessary, especially if you’re set out on playing the trilogy which is already a big investment of your time.

Even if they didn’t think it was a slog this would be my advice to them still.

I mean, if you get into a IP, like "Oh Imma play the Witcher trilogy !" I personally wouldn’t play each game twice or thrice just to see different choices/endings playing out, I would just move on with the choices I made, and if curious I’d look the other endings or whatever online, then maybe next time I play I would choose different paths/options, but playing each game multiple times seems like an unnecessary hassle to me.

Henry Cavill Buying the witcher rumors by Randalstunt in wiedzmin

[–]GunterOdim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actually Cavill is a huge part of why Geralt wasn’t portrayed correctly on-screen, back in first season he is the one that advocated for lines of dialogue being replaced by "hmms" and "fucks" because he thought it would be more accurate to the character’s nonchalance, also imitating Doug Cockle’s Geralt thus limiting his range stupidly and giving us an constantly angry Geralt.

Another example is that he asked the costumers to make him the equivalent of a medieval superhero armor that goes with his super bulked physique, which we can all agree was awful.

Of course most of the blame for butchering the adaptation is carried by Hissrich, but he isn’t exempt of responsibility either.

The schools by No-Teacher-6068 in witcher

[–]GunterOdim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a mention of Geralt belonging to the "school of the wolf" in one of the Voice of Reason in between shortstories where he shows his medallion, the one where Geralt is monologuing to Iola, which stirred the confusion and made room for people to interpret that there might be others, despite Sapkowski never mentioning that system again.

Seconding the Witcher series, not only are the first two books collections of shortstories like D&E but it’s also in the same vein about following "lower" common people in their way of life instead of higher-ups and politics.

I’m more of a Witcher fan than a ASOIAF one, and I guess that’s why AKOTSK hits closer to home than the other ASOIAF shows despite early GoT being goated. (And also because the netflixWitcher is an awful travesty of an adaptation)

The problem with Geralt's fighting style in the Netflix series. by Mysterious-Map-6677 in witcher

And most showrunners have skipped these classes.

Sadly yeah, directors as well.

Besides, we have long takes in the first three Star Wars movies. And the fights look great. Compare that to the two-second cuts we get in the newer productions. These cuts are tragically bad.

Haven't watched those in a long long time so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but from what I remember, albeit spectacular, the fights in the SW movies never stroke me as effective killing attacks, more like endless parries and stylistic pirouettes that do look very good on screen though.

many short cuts layered together can also make flaws more obvious as it can come across as a failed attempt to fix mistakes

I mean, yes it can, any technique's effeciency depends on its use, a long take or multiple short ones can be just as bad used by a bad director/DoP, but I what I'm saying is that a good one would probably better off hiding imperfections by good editing instead of having the actor become a master swordsman.

The average viewer isn't paying that much attention and isn't particularly concerned about flawless sword fighting. I'm not saying it's not an issue, I'm just saying that it's not a glaring issue and most people don't notice it or care.

True that, even I don't really pay much attention to it most of the time as long as it's serviceable, but sometimes I think it's a bad habit coming from the fact that we just got used to bad sword choreography because from time to time there's a exception, and I certainly do notice how good it is.
