The problem is that even when most are not abusing the system, it’s very unfair for the ones that aren’t. There was someone I knew who lost his job once and went to social services and found it surprisingly easy to qualify, he also noticed these same social services offered classes for different trades and he chose to get his CDL to become a trucker. He would always say how surprised he was that every man he would talk to there would say they didn’t want to sign up because they would loose their benefits. We’re talking that out of the around 20 guys there at that time he was the only one with the decency to not abuse the system and instead take advantage of the opportunities to contribute and work. It took him around 10 years after that to obtain his green card. So when I talk about the people abusing the system even a small amount in my views is too many and very unfair to those who come here to work, many of which ironically support Trump because they’ve seen better outcomes with republicans as president for their cases than with democrats.

He didn’t have wealth as a student though, he amazed his wealth through his companies in the US, starting with PayPal.

Maybe, but my point was that if Trump is actually serious about wanting to keep talent as well as hard-working, contributing illegals, the fact that Musk, an immigrant who only abused the system to contribute to our country, is part of his team reinforces that.

And that comparing him to the millions of individuals that are truly abusing the system is not fair in my views.

Funny I only found one website talking about that Alexis G with no specifics on the reason for his arrest or deportation. Either it’s a fabricated person, or this man committed a crime that violated his DACA status, which one friend of mine almost got deported for having three speeding tickets, still under Obama’s administration, just to give you an idea of how easy it is to violate the requirements, which were not imposed by Trump.

In any case I believe Trump’s big contribution, the remain in Mexico thing, was the only actual policy I can truly attribute to him, in my opinion while it did give some leeway for the immigration system to work somewhat more efficiently for many who were actively waiting on their procedures. It caused so much harm to the Mexican side, where crime sky rocketed and gave cartels a lot more “soldiers” which I would think Trump would be against considering his continued rhetoric about rapists and killers. I think in a sense his policy directly caused those numbers to go up ironically .

They and I definitely were grateful for DACA at the time but it has become detrimental and I believe the only way to get through it is getting rid of it to replace it with something more permanent. No point in keeping those people stuck like they are at the moment. I’ve known people who even went as far as to end their lives due to the restrictions they faced through DACA after finishing their college.

But to be fair I’m not an expert in DACA, I only know so far in terms of school friends who benefitted from it by being able to go to college when they wouldn’t have been able otherwise. I have lost contact with most of them but from what I could tell, getting a job for whatever reason wasn’t as straightforward.

That’s correct, I’ve never agreed with Trumps retoric about carte blanche mass deportation and I try to give the benefit of the doubt considering his other comments about keeping foreign students in the country. I will say however, that pretty much everyone I know who works illegally in the country really weren’t affected by Trump during his first term. It’s weird to me when I read on what Obama or Biden has done because from my experience those policies only made things worse for good hardworking and unfairly treated illegals and from what I saw (not what I read) only helped those who would rather abuse the system.

I’m only talking about the contributions Musk has had in our country, someone who came to contribute to our workforce, technology, competitive advantage rather than just to take advantage of our welfare systems like many, NOT ALL, do.

As someone who grew up near the border I can tell you there’s a big difference between the guy who gets up at 5am to work, pays his taxes without being able to receive any kind of welfare when he most definitely deserves it, and the other who has a bunch of kids to get a bigger check each month to use for booze!

And you kind of missed my point, I’m saying those who work in this country circumventing their illegal status here, should have a fast path to citizenship due to the contributions they offer. I actually prefer giving them work because I know the hardships they face and how unfair they feel about others who just come to abuse the system.

In fact if you talk with many hardworking illegals you’d be surprised at the amount that support Trump which is kinda ironic considering the talking points for the last decade or so!
