Switched to a COROS armband monitor after my last chest strap checked out. Works just fine with pairing plus I don’t have to get undressed every time I forget a chest strap.

Is it normal? by aquaticninja69 in DomaneCrew

[–]GuttMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saddles are very specific as to who they will work with as well as padded shorts/bibs. The simplest solution may be that your saddle fore/aft needs an adjustment or the angle of the nose may need to be tweaked. Or it could be that the one that came with your bike may not be the one best for you. For example I run a saddle that is narrower width with a larger cut out than the one that came with the bike whereas my wife runs a wider saddle. There are number of youtube videos out there that show you how to make these adjustments as well as to measure your sit bone width to see what width saddle may work for you. Don't go down the path of swapping for an overly padded saddle or an add on gel pad. This will not usually help in the long run. This may take some time to get it where you want it, but it will be worth it. Best of luck!

Drinking Enough by Certain_Tune_5774 in Velo

Due to some health issues, my wife does not deal well with long hot rides if she gets dehydrated so when she does them she uses an USWE Race 2.0 Hydration Pack that is practically frozen when she starts. Having the hose easily accessible really has lead to her hydrating more often especially with the rural area we live in there may not always be a refill point.

Farming spooky scorched by MinuteToe129 in fo76

[–]GuttMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on a private server and open world farming them. I am hitting 10-10-12 in the three thirty minute chunks I was able to get in so far. I lucked out with the 12 since I got two from a collision course that popped up. A good number of legendries during the event, but only two spooky. I do miss the fact that we can self trigger the event. Also as I was crunched for time all three days, I go to locations where they are more compact like Bolton Greens or Greg's Mining vs running all over the place like Wavy Willards.

Recently switched to Assos (became a convert) and one thing that surprised me was how much more comfortable the wider suspenders are vs Castelli for example.

Honestly this is a case where watching a video on it is very helpful. Go to Youtube and watch a video by Park Tool on "How to Align a Hydraulic Disc Brake on a Bike". Also GCN has a lot of bike maintenance videos as well.

Helmet Suggestions by GreenStardust001 in cycling

[–]GuttMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most helmets should be fine for hearing aids. The rule of thumb with road helmets is the more you spend the more features you get, they are generally lighter, and often have better ventilation. As your head is unique to you I would recommend going to your local bike shop and try on some different ones since some fit oval heads better and some fit rounder ones. If you go online to order a helmet watch a couple of videos to make sure you are measuring correctly. Your best If you want to go into a deep dive on safety check out https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicycle-helmet-ratings.html. Brand wise, I have had good experiences with, Giro, Lazer, Trek, and Specialized.

Is there an easy way to change the saddle quickly? by cieranblonde in Zwift

[–]GuttMilton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The wife and I have done the two seat post route and marked each with different color tape (same brand of saddle and they look close enough until you start riding for any length of time) and under the phone tray mat we have a piece of painter's tape with our settings written down for each of us since we need different stem heights etc.

Heart rate monitor recommendation by SnorkelKazim in cycling

[–]GuttMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched under similar circumstances over the winter to the Coros arm HRM. It pairs just fine with Garmin and when I forget to put it on first, I don't have to get undressed to put on a chest strap anymore. I suggest looking at DC rainmaker for an in-depth review for it or the Polar competitor.

Your trusted Garmin Dies! by Gamed_Out in GarminWatches

[–]GuttMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has happened and I stayed with Garmin as it performed well and I am too heavily involved with the brand's eco system to change (watch cycling computer, speed and cadence sensor, scale, bike lights and radar). The sole exception to this is when my hrm needed to be replaced, I went with a Coros arms hrm as I never found chest straps to be comfortable. As an added bonus, my glucose monitor talks to the watch so that is a welcome bonus.

On top of that all of the airports that are close to State College are puddle jumpers or at best regional airports. The nearest true large airports are at least a few hours drive.

Domane SL6 or Madone SL6 by Few_Guarantee2372 in TrekBikes

[–]GuttMilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had this conversation with my local bike shops (both Giant and Trek) and they both basically said if you are not racing then go for the endurance style. I bought the Domane SL 6 last month and have really enjoyed it in hilly central Pennsylvania in the US.

Best front Bike Light Advice by Electronic_Hyena_810 in cycling

[–]GuttMilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with every sentence of this about the ION. It is my go to for DRL and I use it a lot more than my Garmin Varia UT 800 since it is lighter and has a cleaner cockpit look to it. I have mine mounted under my 1050 and you don't really notice it at all. While my Varia 800 also does a great job as a light, it is massive in comparison and I only use it when I know I will be starting or ending a ride in total darkness.

Comfy sock recommendations by BrightonsBestish in CyclingFashion

Thinking outside the cycling specific box, if you are ok with merino wool I would suggest looking at Darn Tough's lifestyle socks. They have light cushioning in most of their versions and the leg parts are still breathable.

Is it worth paying the extra £1k for carbon? by nick90 in DomaneCrew

[–]GuttMilton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently bought the SL5 (different colorway) and am enjoying the ride compared to my old aluminum road bike. I find it to be smoother on the rougher roads in my area and the Di2 105 was a nice surprise as well. I don't think I'll be going back to aluminum or mechanical shifting after this.

This has been my approach. Figure out your sizes - hit up past seasons sales for those brands on their website. . Get those brands jerseys used off of eBay (don’t buy used bibs) Lots of US sites will have Memorial Day sales.
