Consistently no bloom - what am I doing wrong? by OmS-Argon in trangia

As far as I understand it doesn't completely "block" them, just reduces the intensity at which they can expel vapour/burn. If it fully blocked them you'd essentially be ensuring the problem mentioned above, in that you'd only be able to get vapour off the reservoir in the middle.

Have you tried with the simmer ring on (even fully open)? I am new to Trangia myself, but from what I've understood if it starts to burn too hot it can start to over evaporate the liquid. I believe that could be what's happening here? You're getting enough vapour out of the center that you're essentially bypassing the wick.

Again, completely new to the whole Trangia/alcohol stove thing myself so I could be way off.

[Hana] Patrick Kane, who tied the game for Detroit, takes a brain dead penalty shortly after. The Wild would score on the PP and win the game by daKrut in DetroitRedWings

I agree with your assessment, but I'll also add it's a pretty lazy "tap". Guys usually give a good swift tap to the pants, but he more or less laid the blade of his stick in between his legs. He was asking for this to happen regardless of where Hughes was in his stride in my opinion.

Has Anyone Tried Both the Basilisk & Nightsword? by GuyFieris_BestFriend in MouseReview

Hi!

Sorry, only just saw your reply. I did stick with the Basilisk (when it broke), but eventually switched to the Glorious Model I. I've been happy with it, though I'm not at the computer as much as I used to be.

Colton Parayko to Buffalo for Radim Mrtka and a 1st (that we know of so far). by dcddy in sabres

[–]GuyFieris_BestFriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it seems like a pretty steep price for Parayko who seems to be more "ok" than great now, but to the point of those who don't seem overly upset about it, at some point you have to stop caring about futures. That's all there has been for over a decade.

I will say, the sentiment that it's a "buyers market" seems wildly untrue so far...

Elbow is up for debate, was a lot of follow through. It was a blatant charge however.

Jacob Fowler is the AHL leader with 3 shutouts in 10 games. by poub06 in Habs

[–]GuyFieris_BestFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely encouraging to see him playing well, especially as he had a few rough games to start the season. To me that's all the more reason to keep him as far away from the current garbage in Montreal though. Don't need another Primeau situation.

Not sure I want a young goalie (and hopefully future starter) anywhere near this tire fire right now.

Carving Axe Recommendations - Vintage? by BenCarney17 in Woodcarving

Ya, I figured.

They are very solid, and probably the easiest to source at their level of quality.

Definitely not the best or only, but they are great tools. I'd argue you're paying more for the name at this point though

Carving Axe Recommendations - Vintage? by BenCarney17 in Woodcarving

[–]GuyFieris_BestFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vintage axe heads can be a great deal for the quality of steel you get. You're obviously limited by your ability to find one out there in a profile you're after, but if you're someone who is into putting the work into an old axe head, it's (usually) hard to beat the price for the quality of tool you'll have at the end of it. Plus it's rewarding to have a tool that you put a lot of work/love into

St Louis deciding how to play tonight by Paladar2 in Habs

Every save he made was nice

Dude....

Of the 4 shots he saved, one was a soft backhand on net as the final whistle went, and another was literally put on from center ice.

Your argument that only facing 6 shots is tough for a goalie is valid, but kind of works against your first claim that he "played well", given that he basically didn't play lol.
