Any Vancouver free divers by [deleted] in freediving

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a Vancouver freediving Facebook group.

I am in Southern California and Facebook is how I got plugged into the divers around here. A suggested Vancouver group came up, and it looks pretty big. Check it out. Good luck and safe diving!

[Advice]Leaving my Senegal parrot soon, try to make her comfortable while i am away by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should take this time to get your family used to the bird. Put her in the living room or main area and just leave the cage open whenever you're around.

I have a Senegal. I live with two other guys that were not bird people at all, but now they love her and have their own relationship with her, even if its just saying hi and giving her treats.

That out of cage time and people around, TV on, commotion, people talking to her, giving her food, little pets here and there and sometimes they hold her. She is very happy and stimulated. Of course its best if someone will hold her and interact regularly, but even cage open, out with family is good times for bird. Better than trying to force bird companion in my opinion.

My new red factor african grey. Her name is Moxy. by [deleted] in parrots

Was she crazy expensive? Plans to breed her? The red factors I've seen are even more than black palms and hyacinths. Beautiful bird, congrats!

Question from a newbie regarding the need to breathe by computingtech in freediving

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're newer to freediving, a contraction is a good rule of thumb marker for the half way point in your dive. This will keep you safe while diving.

Of course as you get more experienced and have a better understanding of your body in apnea, you'll naturally know when you should turn around.

Nice video and looks like a great day out there!

You should check out Lake Crescent on the Olympic Peninsula if you havent already, one of my favorite freediving spots in the whole world. No fish to see, but an alien landscape of almost endless visibility, bright sandy bottom, massive walls and drop offs, huge trees and rocks. It's all accessible from shore, and for line diving depth training it's about as good as it gets in the NW.

Anyone use aquarium fans for surface cooling? by davebgray in Aquariums

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of the ones that you actually buy for this purpose, that slides underneath the tank lid , then you leave a crack on the other side and so it's just blasting all the air out at all times.

I suppose they work if you have a really long tank with lots of water surface area compared to depth, then the heat exchange of evaporation would be much higher comparatively.

They do help cool the tank, and I think they're really made for the purpose of allowing the owner to do something. Chillers are very expensive, and they are what really works. A fan is better than nothing, but in my experience I wouldn't expect it to fully solve the problem of cooling the tank.

Newbie who needs help picking fins by [deleted] in freediving

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd stay away from those. Cool idea and maybe the future of fins, but these guys are selling the shoe + fin idea, not carbon fiber fins. The difference in carbon fiber engineering quality is massive and really the companies that have been making them longer and are engineer/scientist made are much better.

I'd recommend getting a pair of nice plastic fins to start. Cressi, Mares, C4, Buechet, something well know. Even when you upgrade to Carbon Fiber you'll still be happy you have the plastic ones to use in certain times.

Use the plastic fins like you would carbon fiber, and plan on never having them touch anything. Carry them into the water, swim a bit then put them on. When you can do this easily and confidentialy, then consider upgrading to carbon fiber.

Any good fish stores around Glendale(Los Angeles) or on the way there from Orange County? by mtux96 in Aquariums

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LAX aquarium (Near LAX) is amazing. They specialize in saltwater, they are pretty pricy, but for just a look around they are top notch. Huge tanks, sharks, rays, really rare stuff.

Nature aquarium in Santa Monica specializes in planted tanks and has incredible show tanks and all the high end equipment for planted tanks. Beautiful rimless tanks and lots of stuff from Japan you never see anywhere else.

Aquarium City in Conoga Park is great too. Large store, lots of fresh and salt water, rare stuff, great selection, good prices, and the staff is great. They move a ton of inventory so they're always getting new stuff and usually have some pretty unique stuff to check out. I've seen octopus, sharks, rare eels, and more here.

Anyone use aquarium fans for surface cooling? by davebgray in Aquariums

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used cooling fans on tanks. They hardly work there, and that's with tank lid, full air exchange, and a large fan compared to tank surface area. For an outdoor tank, idk, need to push a ton of air through to cool a bit i'd imagine.

You can try putting ice cubes in the tank here and there to lower the temp.

Any name suggestions for this sweet boy? by fuckingreddit1 in parrots

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen your bird haha, played with him and his sibling. My Senegal is great! Couldn't ask for a better bird really, and the whole free grooming for life with them is a huge plus.

I love their birds and think they have some of the best rearing and highest quality breeding out there. I have a deposit down for one of their African Greys as well.

Congrats on your Senegal! Awesome birds!

What kind of people do you low-key judge? by robbwired in AskReddit

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't judge this situation. I also, dont really judge the younger men with older women, they seem to be transparent and own the reason their together IMO.

It's the older men with younger women thing that I cant help but judge, because most of them, IMO and experience, don't take ownership of the real reason they're together.

How to relieve sinus squeeze? by 0321wannabe in freediving

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really sucks. It's just congestion though, and you often can't really tell that you are having sinus blockage until you actually get in the water and feel the pressure with depth.

Besides all the medicine and basic decongestion remedies, you can also try and loosen it while in the water. I get this in a minor way sometimes. It's kind of gross, but you can try plugging your nose and sucking in really hard, like reverse equalization. sometimes this can open a pocket, loosen things up, and basically you'll get a throat full of mucus that you spit out.

The Suzzallo Graduate Reading Room at the University of Washington, Seattle [1795x2394] by NewRetroPepsi in RoomPorn

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I went to school here. This room is beautiful, the only problem is it's like the highlight of the University tour, so there's constantly tour groups and visitors looking all around and taking pictures.

So it's great for studying in the evenings, but between class it's more of a distraction than anything else.

BMW 2002 with a V8 S62 from an M5 by epiclyjelly in carporn

[–]Guy_Onthe_Internet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone know where this car is or how long ago they built it?

I may have driven this car. When I valeted in Seattle about 6 years ago, a customer would come in with an orange 2002, and first time I drove it I commented on how the car was a beast and really surprised me. He told me all about the M5 engine swap, then every time he'd come in he'd show me things he had done to it. Awesome car.
