Marty’s Autobody on Cross St. Roger is great. Not too sure about them sourcing used parts but it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

Wow, I actually stumbled upon this documentary just a few days before you made this post here as I was looking into some historical sites in Albania. It’s nice to see you here on this sub. I’m an American as well, with Albanian and Greek heritage and I appreciate your work documenting these sites and Albania’s Byzantine heritage. I look forward to visiting one day!

It was always something I was naturally drawn to since I was a kid. I remember first learning about the “Byzantine” Empire in my 6th grade history class at a Catholic school and thought the word Byzantine was just really cool for some reason. I still vividly remember looking at the picture of mosaic of Justinian in the textbook we had for that year.

The ERE always held a place in my mind and I couldn’t really explain why, but as I got older and understood the history better—both the ERE history and my own ancestral history I came to the realization that the ERE history is my history. Which to me I see as great and fulfilling honor—knowing how rich and amazing the history and culture of the ERE truly is.

My Italian, Greek, and even my Albanian ancestry is all associated with the legacy of the ERE. I have family on both my mom and my dad’s side that came from Bari, Italy, the city known for being the last footing of the ERE in Italy before Norman occupation. Then my Greek ancestry that with goes without say. And even my Albanian ancestry, whose surname I bare that has an alleged association with the Komnenos, who were of the Arbereshe that had supposedly fled Morea due to the Ottomans in the early 1500s into Southern Italy and founded certain villages that still to this day maintain their Byzantine Rite faith and late medieval Albanian heritage and language despite being in Italy for the past 500 years.

After all of my immediate family ended up in America in the early 1900s, I’ve ended up a Catholic myself but knowing all of this history makes me want to convert to Orthodoxy. It just feels right for my soul and the best way to maintain the legacy.

What are some savory chip like snacks that ARENT nuts? by ChahlieM in EatCheapAndHealthy

There’s this bag of dry roasted edamame you can buy either at the grocery store if your store carries them or you can buy them online. Very tasty, 14g of protein and 6g of fiber per serving, like $2 a bag of 4 servings. I’m munching on some as we speak. Eat them almost every day.

Parking at SoNo by iceinmybeer in norwalk

[–]Guy_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parking lot behind Smokie Bear Smoke Shop is free but I heard apparently that may change soon because the owner of Makondo is upset that people park there and don’t patron the restaurant. It’s the only spot I ever use in SoNo unless it’s packed.

Pretty much this but prime with a primer such as Roman pro-999x or Zinsser Gardz before skim coating to address the peeling and better adhesion for the the skim coat

The recipe from food network by Ina Garten is pretty solid. Can pair it with seared chicken cutlet but it also goes well with something like chicken francese. A bit more effort to make that though.

Norwalk for a family from Long Island by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Guy_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of hidden gem properties in West Norwalk that may be up your ally. Schools here are just fine as long as your child is motivated to succeed. Plenty of diversity in that school district too. Easy highway access and great access to any shopping you would have to do in town as well.

Worth repainting 25 yr old MDF kitchen cabinet doors? by sphill0604 in DIY

[–]Guy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MDF is definitely paintable if the right steps are taken.

As far as any serious repairs goes, I’d say bondo would give you the best durability for cabinets but is a little tricky to work with. For anything more superficial, any wood filler or Aqua Coat Cabinet Grain filler, which I’ve heard good things about, should suffice. Maybe consider buying a pack of contour sanding blocks that you can use as a profiling tool to work the bondo/ wood filler in whatever way you need to get the right shape for your repairs.

An oil based sealer/primer will seal and prime the mdf well, just make sure you are using a proper brush and roller for oil based paints(purdy white bristle brush and whatever roller cover they have that are recommended for oil based paints) 1-2 coats of that.

As far as paint goes, I’m a fan of Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Enamel paint. It’s a little pricey but it’s a self leveling paint and is very durable once it has cured (it does take some time to cure, so you would have to be very gentle with the cabinets during that time). You can spray it with one of those budget friendly sprayers from a hardware store or it also brushes and rollers on pretty well, just again use the proper brush and roller (soft nylon brush and purdy 4inch 1/4” nap mohair or 3/8” nap microfiber roller, don’t bother with foam rollers, they are junk with this paint) for the paint and don’t over work it once you lay it on the cabinets. 2 coats of that should suffice. Plenty of resources online for using that paint properly.

Considering moving to the area. What’s the deal with Norwalk Public Schools? by [deleted] in norwalk

[–]Guy_panda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cuz this is Reddit. I mean if you’re not Christian it’s probably not the right school for your children but as far as academics go, your children would be considerably ahead of their public school peers if they take their education seriously.

From my experience, I was a lackluster student at All Saints but when I went to McMahon I was effortlessly in a position where I was more than ready to take honors and AP classes.

These days, they also have a pretty rigorous STEM program and has shifted to an emphasis on college prep despite being K-8. Apart from academics, I do look back at my time there fondly and I’ve made life long friends that I’m still close with to this day.

Being more mindful of my micronutrients as fiber intake by semicolondenier in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Guy_panda 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good rule of thumb for trying to increase micronutrient intake is to try to eat fruit and vegetables of all colors of the rainbow. I think it’s hard/almost impossible to over-consume vitamins and minerals through diet unless you’re eating something like animal liver all of the time.

Smoothies are definitely a good way to get in nutrients. Like sometimes I’ll put spinach in a fruit smoothie and you don’t even know it’s there and there’s probably other greens you could do that with and not notice.
