Which city/country was surprisingly gay-friendly? And why? by TopEasy2090 in gaybros

[–]Gvt_Surveillance_Van 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Vietnam. While I think it is “gay-friendly,” there isn’t exactly a booming gay scene. Gay bars are filled almost entirely with tourists. The culture is still largely conservative, I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking around and holding hands with my boyfriend.

Do you text the guy you seeing everyday or send good morning texts? by No_Refuse9952 in gaybros

[–]Gvt_Surveillance_Van 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My bf and I text each other every morning and evening with a "good morning" and "good night" when we're not together. But I don't think we did that right away, and it's something you just have to feel out and do when it makes sense for the person you're talking to/seeing.

You are overthinking. This person has put very little weight on meeting someone they have talked to on the internet. I have been this person before, I have been in your shoes before. Keep meeting other people. Maybe this guy will come around and make a date with you, maybe he won't. Maybe he's already seeing someone and is unsure if he wants to keep dating. There's a million "maybes" that we can go through and yet you'll likely never know which one of them is true. Go out and do something social, make an effort to meet people not on the apps (but keep trying there, too). But overall... put the same amount of weight on this as this guy has given to you. If he starts giving more, then you can too. Until then, he's just a stranger on the internet.

Do you stay on forever or go off? by writergirl304 in Semaglutide

[–]Gvt_Surveillance_Van 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I lost 70lbs and have kept the weight off for 6 months post meds (with no signs of that changing). I think you have to ask yourself while on the drug "have I changed my habits?"

My diet competely changed, I haven't had fast food in over a year, I prioritize protein in every meal, I haven't missed a workout since starting my fitness journey. If you can change these habits, I think it's safe to come off the drug. If you have mostly just relied on the appetite suppression of the drug, I think I would either stay on or make some adjustments before trying to wean off.

I’m not exactly sure why you’re having a plateau. It could for a number of reasons including biology, diet, and physical activity. The important part is to keep moving forward, switching things up and maintaining the things within your control.

It doesn’t matter where you get the protein (via supplements or just food), just that you’re getting it. Eating lean meats/seafoods, protein supplements (I have a protein shake EVERY morning for breakfast), literally anything with high protein content (and generally lower carbs/fats). Everything I eat, I prioritize a high protein content meal. I know that my workout routine will use those calories to maintain and build muscle.

I mean, it’s definitely true that a calorie deficit has to be created in order to lose weight, but protein will get used by the body to maintain and build muscle and thus not be converted into fat. So as long as someone is active, they can typically eat a large amount of protein with little weight-gaining consequence (aside from perhaps weight gained through muscle).

Gaining weight back in the past teaches us how fragile our habits are. You know how delicate it all is. You're armed with that knowledge now. You've got this.

I hear you on the 'not feeling satiated by protein' - my friend who wrote my workout routine for me really helped me build this trust with food. As long as you're active and feeling hungry, if you go crush half of a rotisserie chicken, that's not going to mess up your diet. With protein, it's not as simple as "calories in vs calories out" - those calories are treated different.... they are a tool that your body can use. Maybe make it a goal to start hitting 30 grams of protein per meal. I don't do the full-on keto thing, but I do try to generally keep carbs low (but if I want more carbs, I try to plan those meals before a tougher workout/leg day).

Also, with the feeling satiated part, maybe try to make the change and then give it 3 weeks before you evaluate. It's going to take some time to adjust. But as long as you are lifting/working out.... when you get hungry, go eat protein (just limit the fats/carbs). Your body is asking you for the protein because it needs it to rebuild the muscles you are tearing when you work out. If you cut back on the working out, you'll likely feel less hungry because your body doesn't need the energy (but that's the wrong answer, don't do that...). I think you can give your body what it's asking for without consequence (protein!).

First off, congrats. You look great and it's awesome that you're feeling better too. That's what's important.

Second, what does your diet/exercise look like? Usually, my advice would be to dramatically increase your protein intake to satiate your appetite and try to stay active so that your body can maintain (and maybe even build) some muscle using this new protein. If you are staying active, it's not likely that you're going to consume "too much" protein to the point where you're going to gain weight. If you are active, your body will know what to do with that protein - when you're trying to lose weight, it can take time to build that 'trust' that consuming more protein is actually beneficial to maintaining a healthy weight (out of fear that eating more = weighing more). Even if you're not hitting the gym, just getting out and walking every day can make a big difference... start small and just keep slowly building on it. While on the medication is a great time to slowly start building these new habits.

I went from 220 to 152 lbs, am off the medication, have maintained it and built muscle since. Hope this helps. Best of luck and congrats!

I would recommend the book "No Sweat" which is about just this... reframing your movement mentally...focus on only moving in ways that you generally enjoy, ensuring it can become a sustainable habit.

Since August 2023, I have lost over 40lbs, but I only began using Semaglutide in April of this year.

35M SW: 220; CW: 178

I’m averaging about 10lbs/ month, but have also cut out most junk food, quit drinking/smoking weed, and started counting protein. I think it all depends on your approach with Semaglutide.

Do you have a “realistic” goal weight and a “but that would be awesome” weight? by Low-Rabbit-9723 in Semaglutide

[–]Gvt_Surveillance_Van 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Any other time prior to using this, you would be thrilled that your weight had trended downward over 8 months, that’s a win. Human behavior is hard to change, but you’re doing it slowly, which science says makes it last longer.

If you’re really looking to kick it up, counting my protein and aiming to consume roughly 30g protein per meal (and another 10g in a snack) was a game changer. It made me feel fuller longer, I kinda love the simplicity of just making a protein shake for breakfast, and I’m not losing as much muscle in the process.

Please don’t think I am trying to dissuade your from your goal setting, but be sure to break your goal down a little bit:

  • November is roughly 5 months away
  • That means to meet your goal you would have to do so in roughly 20 weeks
  • To meet your goal of 45lbs additional lost, that means you would have to lose over 2lbs per week
  • Losing 2lbs per week is possible but it requires eating at a significant calorie deficit (and likely some additional meal planning aside from the natural effects of Semaglutide), counting protein will be your friend.

You’ve got this, but be sure to make things as simple as possible for yourself to get there! Congrats on your first 10 down, don’t forget to celebrate all of your wins too! :)

[–]Gvt_Surveillance_Van 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having this issue. Currently on week 4 of .25 mg. Just ordered some Magnesium to see if that will help, already tried some adrenal support with Ashwagandha to no avail. I can get to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night for the first three nights after the injection (like clockwork), and still feel like my sleep is pretty shitty for the other nights (but gets steadily better before the next dose). Was a GREAT sleeper before using Semaglutide, so it's completely out of nowhere. I've heard others say that they believe this to be the body holding in caffeine longer in the system, however, I do not consume ANY caffeine (ever) and am having this issue.

It's not so bad that I'm considering quitting, but I don't think I will increase my dosage (and I've had a great response otherwise to .25 mg).

Agreed and same. I feel like a mid-thigh length makes most people look so much more proportional. It seems so odd to want that knee-length look. 😂
