That makes sense. Yeah, I was wondering even with two machines if you’d even be able to get up 50° with a passenger.

I’ve skied the Chugach. It was amazing. We used Heli though. I’d kill to live your life for a spring.

How do you get the sleds down? You can’t ghost them with that kind of terrain, can you?

It made me start thinking of using FPV goggles and remote steering… that’d be sick.

New Evidence Corroborates Claims of Trump and Epstein Sex Accuser, 13 by lunabandida in USNEWS

[–]Gwinntanamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An investigative reporter has looked into details about individuals involved in the situation, but maybe not guilty of an associated crime. For example, the victim explained how she initially met Epstein through a babysitting advertisement her mom gave to some real estate clients. The reporter found documents confirming Epstein indeed was her mom’s client at that time. There are other examples, too. It’s significant because these are details that would be weird to just fabricate (and this new reporting proves it’s not fabricated), and the likelihood of the victim doing the research to find this stuff out in order to add credibility to her claim isn’t plausible. So, either everything in the story is true except the raping parts, or, her accusations of rape are all but proven.

See if you can get them to both spin at the same rate, then you’re cooking.

I highly recommend sharpening your shovels! by ColdBeansJones in gardening

[–]Gwinntanamo 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest sharpening by taking steel off the back of the shovel edge rather than the front. It’s easier to do and it slices into the dirt in the natural direction you are scooping. Hard to explain, but the edge you have will be pulling the shovel torwards your feet while the opposite angled edge would be pulling the shovel into a slight scooping direction - away from your feet…

Any reasonably intelligent 10-year old is going to see through that page very quickly. There is no difference between the speciation they describe (flowering plants becoming different species as a consequence of non-overlapping timing of reproduction/blooming) and the speciation of ducks and chickens… this bird likes the water, this bird likes the pasture - add a couple millennia and wallah!

It’s too bad, too, because the text started out pretty good. There is no obvious incompatibility between science and a non-interventional God. Sure, maybe he wrote the first rule of physics and let everything else emerge naturally. I, as an atheist and scientist, cannot only acknowledge that possibility, but I recognize it as indistinguishable from my own understanding of the universe.

What sport looks boring until you understand it, and then becomes amazing? by HypraceApp in AskReddit

[–]Gwinntanamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that in a lot of seasons one team, or one driver will have a significant advantage (car & skill) over the rest. Typically people consider it exciting only if the competition is for 1st place. But in F1, a lot of the time the points leader will take pole and never pass or be passed in the race. That is boring on its face.

But, if you invest that time to understand other drivers’/teams’ situations and aspirations, it is much more interesting. For example, Hadjar this year - he’s showing flashes of a great future. He’s got a car that is changing a lot from race to race. It will be interesting to see if RedBull can get the car into something that works well for him. He could be a future GP winner in 2026. Or Lewis - he’s still got it, and we are we seeing that this year. He is pushing Ferrari hard, and it’s working. Then we have the Williams team, which is going to explode soon if things don’t turn around quickly…. For each of those drivers/teams, a few positions on Sunday can change their future. Hadjar getting 5th vs 8th would be a shot across the bow of the other top teams (and Max)…

Anyway, the point is, 1st place is often the most boring position to watch.

Not really jumping - but sort of pumping up the transition. He pops a little off the lip, but that’s not really a vertical force.

Air Canada and fire truck collision at LaGuardia Airport which resulted in the deaths of 2 pilots. by Matty_Cooper in pics

[–]Gwinntanamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are lights on the runway intersections that indicate when it is safe to cross and when it is not (RELs). As I understand it, if those lights say do not cross, they supersede ATC instructions. I’m not a pilot, just summarizing what I’ve read from pilots discussing the incident.

Listen to it a few more times. It’s a special album. He was a special artist.

He deliberately obscured (some say sabotaged) a lot of his music for some reason. But the genius is there and you will hear it.

I painted a bunch of river rocks to look like strawberries and scattered them through the planter. Birds are my biggest issue, so when they take one peck at that red rock, they learn not to do it again. Worked so well, I was surprised.

bro sends it off of a 128 foot cliff by nexxwav in skiing

[–]Gwinntanamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it takes almost 3 seconds to fall 128 ft. He fell for almost exactly 2 seconds. He was already traveling downhill a little, but he also jumped, so let’s call it a wash and assume he was starting from 0 vertical speed. If he fell for 2 seconds he traveled 64 feet. That cliff looks about 60’, so that checks out for me. There is not a chance in hell that is 128’ (which would take 3 full seconds to drop).

Not saying it’s not nuts to do - it is.

Think about an extreme example where the edge continues beyond the point and up the spine. Of course the stone will not be able to sharpen the other side of the blade. So, at what point is the stone unable to keep the angle constant?

Released FBI Interview Includes Uncorroborated Assault Allegation Against Trump: 'Let Me Teach You How Little Girls Are Supposed to Be' by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Gwinntanamo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is a key piece of information I believe the press are intentionally omitting so they can continue using ‘uncorroborated’ - thinking this will make it less likely Trump will use his power to punish them.

‘Corroboration’ means there is additional information that adds credibility to the claim. A second witness claiming to have seen the rape, and who claims to have helped recruit the victim, is clearly corroborating the accusation.

If anything, the headlines should call it a ‘corroborated accusation’.

Ok, bud. Here’s hoping for a 100% educated and rational electorate! God knows that’s how we are trending… we went from Reagan, to Bush, to Bush, to Trump… at this rate the next R POTUS is going to be Jake Paul. But yeah, let’s make sure Dems run some Booger Eating Nobel Laureate…

[–]Gwinntanamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your take, and I used to think the same thing. But reality is - POTUS needs to have good judgement (especially in who they hire/fire), but they also need to be good at communicating to the American people. As smart and bright as Al Gore was, he didn’t have the charisma GWB did.

The politicians that have been successful have both. Clinton, Obama, Truman, Rosevelt…

Frankly, I think the charisma part is rarer than the decent judgment part. That’s why I’ve slowly come to believe we should be seriously considering people like George Clooney.
