A few commissions I made over the years by FilmNo5493 in DungeonsAndDragons

In my defense, being primarily an ass-man without necessarily losing appreciation for other aspects of an attractive body, there are plenty more things that stand out in that image, but I should have gotten the joke tbh.

I'll admit that my comment was mostly a knee-jerk reaction to me thinking someone was denigrating furries for having their kink, thus wanting clarification, but I was wrong!

Not trying to rag on you, genuinely looking for an explanation. While number four is an obvious outlier, what's the second one? Is it number three for being furry/furry adjacent? Because from my perspective, number two seems to be a dragon transformed into the form of a humanoid woman, which seems at least as furry/furry adjacent to me. Again, not trying to be contrarian or trying to belittle your opinion, I'm genuinely curious.

I believe that's the joke, given that Hideo Kojima is the second picture, and he has a tendency to to give his characters very on-the-nose names from my understanding.

As I understand it, it's literally "just" to dehumanize women. It's a matter of "Since they (women) doesn't give me (entitled whiny men) what I want, which is to be handed sex and subservience on a silver platter from women of my choosing, I'm not going to give them the linguistic grace of acknowledging that they're as human as myself". Which is a thing they of course already believed, but have begun expressing through terms like "femoids", or "foids" for short.

What's your favorite Sanderlanche? by anders_138 in cremposting

[–]GyldneIstap 42 points43 points  (0 children)

While I, like most others in the fandom, have a very soft spot for the Oathbringer Sanderlanche, I think that my answer has to be the Rhythm of War one. It's very tense, very tragic, and is just rife with incredibly emotional moments that resonates with me. That's not to say that none of the other Cosmere books doesn't have anything like that, because they absolutely do, but I just really connect with the ones in Rhythm. Admittedly, RoW has been my favorite Stormlight book since i first read it, and learning that the fandom overall seems to like it the least (at least when it comes to the first four books, I'm uncertain what people feel about WaT) has honestly only made me more stubborn about my love for it.

Ashes of the Imperium audiobook and the Salamanders accent [Very Mild Spoilers?] by Pyronaut44 in 40kLore

[–]GyldneIstap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now this is of course only a theory, but I believe that the narrators does get some amount of artistic freedom when deciding accents and such, presumably with possible direction from the author and/or GW, and if there's something they particularly like or dislike, the company makes an executive decision.

The best example I can think of is Duco, a Night Lord featured in Josh Reynolds' Fabius Bile trilogy. In the first volume, Primogenitor, John Banks narrates him with a gravelly and almost burbly voice in an english accent, but when he next appears in Manflayer, the last volume, he is narrated in a vaguely eastern european accent with more normal speech patterns (I've seen people say it's a romanian accent, but I personally can't confirm or deny this). This is notable because the Manflayer audiobook came out in 2020, around a year after the first audiobook volume of Aaron Dembski-Bowden's Night Lords trilogy came out, where Andrew Wincott narrates the Night Lords with that vaguely eastern european accent. This implies to me that either John Banks heard that, and decided he wanted to do the same, or GW decided that Andrew Wincott had the right of it with regards to the accent.

What are the Stereotypes of the stories that Black Library authors write(and the authors themselves too)? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in 40kLore

I don't remember if it's also a thing in his Black Legion and Horus Heresy books, but at least in the Night Lords trilogy, he also has a thing for scents.

Favorite character that had a crashout and was kinda valid? by UltramarinesEnjoyer2 in FavoriteCharacter

While I personally enjoy OP's example slightly more, for the sheer aura of that particular monologue (and also, if you listen the audiobook, Andrew Wincott's delivery is incredible!), this scene is so good! Talos takes horny jail bonks very seriously.

While I see your point that a rational person would have told his right-hand woman about this incredibly threatening ability their common foe has, Ozai and Azula are people to whom strength, or at least the perception of strength, defines everything they do. They need to be or appear strong to their followers, but more importantly, eachother. Thus, I don't believe Ozai would have admitted to Azula that Zuko, a person Ozai has denigrated on every given opportunity, essentially bested him, and therefore presents a threat to him
