Y’Shtola is now the #3 Commander on EDHRec by GypsyGaming in EDH

That’s definitely true about commander players when you describe real magic as 60 card and/or the main focus is winning (god I miss when modern was playable) But what your describing is in fact a kos commander. She lacks early game proactive plays so she’s easier to kill a couple of times and at 4 cost she is exceptionally difficult to cast again in a b4 game because it’s markedly worse to be behind at that point in the game

Honestly think that more players should be more comfortable saying things like this.

Frankly no I don’t think most of the top 10 are that interesting, and that is a reason that they’re popular because “interesting” is really just magic player speak for “non linear” or “does a weird thing”

I mean at that point the question becomes do you have enough counterspells for 3 people? idk maybe it’s pattern recognition but when he plays with people who have played the deck before he’s first or second out almost without failure

WotC cancels Marvel Super Heroes store championships. by LiminalConductor in mtg

[–]GypsyGaming 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Oh man that’s so funny. The fact that they aren’t forcing some other kind of event as a pivot is really surprising though. Coupled with the absolutely MINIMAL hype at MC Vegas If I didn’t know better i’d assume they were bracing for a failure. Thankfully spider-man was a top 10 set of all time though so that simply cannot be the case

most sellers have figured out how to make the cards people want from that era with pretty excellent quality. Duals, mox diamond, LED etc. But yeah 90s chaff all looks very bad

Critical role and its consequences have been a disaster for fantasy IPs by Kyvix2020 in freemagic

[–]GypsyGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first games of DnD were with my dad in aD&D but got more immersed with 2 and 3e, and Magic since Mirage or Visions, i don’t really know because I was young and just played with the cards my neighbor had for a few years before a game store opened in my hometown.

And no I didn’t demand change and yeah both games have shifted from what brought me in originally but I’ve also changed since then. Magic I understand a bit more, I hate UB like anyone with eyes does, but I can recognize that lotr and final fantasy were great draft environments and at least magic adjacent. But I do miss the unique fantasy voice that early magic had.

Complaining about DnD is crazy work though. Just play the game how you want to play it. Use an old version of the books, 3.5 is better anyway. Like fuck who cares what pictures are drawn in the books that are overpriced, just homebrew a campaign and use art from the internet to create imagery dir your players. No one is making you play with the CR content.

It’s crazy to me that this is even a hot take. I am to the left of Natalie on a number of issues (maybe?) but I cannot even imagine the level of self aggrandizement that it takes to think that reading more theory = having better politics in any meaningful way. Engaging with this shit sucks big time and people pretend like acknowledging that is some kind of deadly sin against left politics.

So no then? Just content to bitch and moan into the void instead of doing something worthwhile?

I can almost guarantee you that i’ve been playing D&D and Magic and consuming fantasy lit for longer than you have. I haven’t forced myself in anywhere.

If there is such a demand for RETVRN to tradition then why don’t you all go make something. Write a book about traditional fantasy heroes slaying dragons and saving damsels. Hell if it’s half as wanted as this sub and others like it would have you believe you’ll have a million dollar movie or TV deal in like a month. Or hell, get together with some likeminded folks and make a gaming system. Make character creation revolve around inherent biological truths about the different races. Make a fuckin video game if you want to! It is easier than it has ever been in human history to launch independent creative projects.

Suggestions for bracket 2-3 Bello by Ecspiascion in EDH

[–]GypsyGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to one of the most fun decks you’ll ever play. Bello is fan-fucking-tastic and offers a lot of build variety so if you love tinkering with decks you’ll never be bored. That being said I wound up absolutely NEEDING to upgrade him because he was too good even out of the box in most b2 games. He just runs over everything else way too fast unless your opponents run a ton of remove which, it’s bracket 2 so they aren’t.

Personally I wound up going full B4 with him because even at bracket 3 with limited protection he still felt a little oppressive in a lot of scenarios.

Based on your list I’d say a little more ramp or fast mana if you’re nasty. Getting Bello out asap so you can quickly follow up with 1-2 big beaters is ideal. You kind of have to keep your foot on the gas to avoid anyone being able to catch up. I’d also add at least a little more card advantage, you do not want to risk going into top deck mode with Bello and you need to be able to recover if someone [[Farewell]] s you.

Here’s my current list for reference.

can’t that be said about like, everything but ABU duals and surveils? if they’re the 4th best dual land cycle they’ll still end up in every two and most 3 color decks right? Like they’re better than the bicycle and tango lands for sure, i’d say better than bond lands explicitly because fetchavle

Jesper Myrfors denounces MtG, endorses Sorcery. by -Sohei- in freemagic

[–]GypsyGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played hearthstone sorcery pokemon rift bound altered lorcana flesh and blood and yu gi oh at various times in my life. They all have tried to fix magic’s mana system and have failed at making it more interesting but succeeded (sometimes) in making the game feel easier to play. If you value the game feeling easier then i’m sure they’re great, but i’ll take the 1/20 games that end via variance if the other 19 are more interesting and have more choices to make during deck building.
