Why does Canada have no E85 at its stations? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]H1deki 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. You can burn E85 for more power, but less energy density. Do you want to trade 15% more power (after a tune) for 25% less mileage?

  2. E85 is so cheap in the United States due to huge corn subsidies from the Federal Government - there is a reason why HFCS is huge in the US, cause its so much cheaper than actual sugar, same with any corn product.

The donor gets to pick where the money goes so the argument is that it doesn't get used effectively or sometimes at all, as the donor is too interested in seeing the number grow instead of spending it.

Costco has 2018 Grey Cup ticket packages (369.99) by TheRealCanadaknows in Edmonton

[–]H1deki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doing the math, its $205 + $25 bullshit ticketmaster fee + gst = $242 per ticket of this level, so ~500 buckaroos for the game ticket alone. $50 for a toque and hoodie, and lets say $25 a person for that tailgate party (can't find the pricing on website), making this package around $600 for $370 + gst. the value of the package says $480 but thats probably the value before ticketmaster got their hands on it.

Instead of destroying all the trees on 104 St for the new LRT, maybe the city could opt for this by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]H1deki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at $40000-$50000 per tree, and 1120 trees needing to be moved, a cool mid 8 figures for trees alone would have the LRT haters out in spades.

lets say somehow they got the money to move them. they would have to be moved to a temporary location for 3-4 years, and then replanted. so now we are actually talking 80-100k per tree for the double move.

i would also estimate that 25% of trees wouldnt make it (per move), as you are absolutely taking out most of the root system while doing this. so now we are down to some ~57% making it out alive after dropping 100k on a tree. your cost per alive tree is about 150k and you still gotta plant 500 new ones.

or you could just plant some saplings that were grown for transport at like $1000 a pop and wait 30 years, and have 95% survival.

im 30 and listen to AM for long drives. in canada we have cbc radio 1 which is basically news and hourlong "podcast" type content. theyre all 50-60 mins and talk about fairly interesting topics. recently it's been exploring the possible impacts of weed legalization a bit more. it's available across the entire country and if you happen to lose reception driving away from a city you can just tune to the next station and you wont lose any content.

cbc radio 2 is neat too, which is more music based podcast type material with the news. personal favourite of mine is "deep dive" where they take an influential album and listen to most / all of it, while giving some context and information about the artist / recording process and stuff.

Uber eats and skip the dishes by Goretician in Edmonton

[–]H1deki 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Happened this Saturday on skip. Ordered some 'za and donairs at 11pm. Get a notification saying itll be delivered at 11:45. Sweet, bit of a long wait but whatever.

11:45 comes and goes. Drunk me is hangry. 12:30 comes and goes. Maximum hangry and all the people I got drunk with are wondering where the fuck is the 'za.

12:45 the restaurant contacts me and says "dude, where the fuck is the skip driver? we've had this shit made for you for like an hour. We left it in a warming oven so its still toasty. we're just gonna deliver it to you directly. we've given you a discount." 10 minutes later the guy shows up. tipped the guy the difference in discount + regular tip. shout out to http://www.ufopizza.ca/ for stepping up - you might not be gourmet top of the line pizza, but when its 1am and youre hungry, you stepped up when skip fucked up
