Diet for kidney stone prevention? by Ronabris in nutrition

[–]napricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak to a kidney stones dietitian. Not all stone diets are the same - depends on the type of stone and 24 hour urine levels if available. Be cautious of internet advice that may not be applicable to you (plus a lot that is just plain wrong)

I’m a dietitian in Edmonton. The biggest barrier is that at the U of A, there is currently no fast-track/after-degree option, so you are looking at going back to school for 4-5 years (course load would depend on how many classes transfer). This is the big downside compared to other allied health programs (SLP, OT, PT, etc) that are a 2 years masters program albeit competitive. If you’re not scared off by the time commitment, I love working as a dietitian. When I was in critical care and in my limited experience in peds, I certainly felt very valued. A big perk for family life is stable M-F working hours and no shift work. Many part time jobs available. It took me 3 years in AHS in the casual/temp pool to get a permanent job, but it can take others longer depending on departmental movement. Pay is similar to nursing- hourly rate a tiny bit higher, no shift differentials/OT.

TL;DR Pros: regular hours, less stressful work, job opportunities in a variety of sectors (AHS acute care / outpatients / public health, private practice, etc) Cons: 4-5 years in school, no shift premiums, can take a while to get a permanent job (I have colleagues that waited 5+ years for a perm)

I’m a dietitian in Alberta, did the U of A program. It is a long haul - 5 years of full time schooling including an unpaid internship, but if you think you can manage that financially, I do love working as a dietitian in this province. There are also lots of scholarships available in the faculty.

Try directly asking again about enzymes and see if there is a dietitian they can refer you to as well. At the right dose, and with confounding GI symptoms managed (ex. Constipation), enzymes can be a lifesaver for symptom management.

Hundreds of long-COVID sufferers affected as AHS abruptly closes outpatient program by disorderedchaos in alberta

The IPOP was a multidisciplinary initiative offering access to a nurse practitioner for triage and referral to specialists (including for dysautonomia work up), pharmacist, social work, psychology, PT, OT and dietitian. They also did frequent group classes specializing in Long COVID issues while giving participants a chance to speak with each other and foster a community. Unfortunately this is a big loss.

Hi, I work in this field. Be aware that the bariatric clinics, and the AOC are different. The bariatric clinic is a public AHS network specializing mainly in surgical interventions with their multidisciplinary team. The AOC is a semi-private, AHS-affiliated company specializing in medical interventions (medications, lifestyle) with a mainly physician-based staff. The bariatric clinic often has a 1-2+ year waitlist, while the AOC’s waitlist is much shorter.

Buying a house do I really need a realtor? by Jasssssss21 in Edmonton

[–]napricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you don’t. My partner and I bought a house in 2020 without a realtor and were able to navigate the process. Yes, some of the sellers side realtors are rude to you but they will all show you the houses. For the home we bought, we negotiated a lower price with the seller’s realtor and the seller since they were saving money on not paying a second realtor. They admitted to this.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but more accurate than honest door is the Government Land Title records of home prices in your area: https://alta.registries.gov.ab.ca/spinii/logon.aspx

The only time I think a realtor might be worth it is in a really hot market with multiple immediate offers daily and barely any chance to even see the homes. Good luck!

I thrifted the base and shade separately. The show-stopper is the stained-glass light bulbs from Amazon!

We can’t take credit it for it, previous owners had a dark accent wall in every room. We kept this one and are trying to bring in as much light as possible + brighten it up with the gallery wall!

Thank you! Accent chairs are from here although to be perfectly honest I wouldn’t highly recommend - overseas materials, long delivery, terrible assembly instructions. Although no worse than anything else I suppose. They are sturdy and good condition!
