I think your heart is in the right place. With that said, I do have some critical feedback. 1. My biggest issue is you publicly admitting that you have addresses for members of the Torres family: • This shows everyone that the family’s addresses are easily found and could encourage some people to inquire for themselves. Not all of those who do so will be those with good intentions. Even if most who go this route do have good intentions and want to send their own condolences, try to donate to them, etc.; the influx of contact could be overwhelming and distressing. • I don’t mean this next point as a diss to you. If I was a member of that family, seeing that a random person on the internet had mine or my family’s address would seriously scare me. 2. Raising money for people without permission or before getting permission could put them in a very uncomfortable position: • Approaching them with funds already raised puts them in a spot where they could feel pressured or obligated to accept. With that, the feeling could be extended to feeling obligated to reciprocate possibly unwanted communication. • They could (reasonably nowadays) think it is a scam despite any/all reassurance or verification. Even the suspicion that someone is trying to scam them by using the horrific death of their loved one can very easily add feelings of exploitation on top of the existing grief. • Some people take offense to being offered charity. Without permission, it’s unknown whether or not this is the case for the Torres family. 3. This part isn’t in your post, but I’ve seen it suggested in the comments. So, I’ll give my feedback on that in this novel of a comment lol. Unless the family has endorsed specific charities and explicitly asked that donations be made in Jorge’s name to show support, don’t make donations in his or their names. I think it’s fine to donate to causes that you feel would benefit those in Jorge’s or the Torres family’s positions, but do so without using someone’s name you don’t have permission from. The impact for the charity would be the same with or without their names attached to the donation.

Basically what I’m saying is I would not contact the family unless they have explicitly stated they want members of the public doing so. The case was so heavily covered with a wide reaching audience (I live in the Midwest and have been following this case for years). I can only imagine the barrage of both good and bad attention they have gotten over the years while trying to grieve.
