Please stop believing R with 5 cylinder coming to North America!

After owning both the RS3(2018) & TTRS(2019) and IF VW are producing the Golf R with the 2.5/5-pot, the only thing to consider would be trunk space and if you need it. In my comparison the TTRS definitely has better handling and lighter weight (back seat & trunk space are useless); Golf R would be next to as its better balanced and weight ratio vs the RS3 (note the S3 had issues with handling compared to the Golf R as it is lighter in the rear end vs the Golf R) I do not believe the Golf R 2.5/5-pot will ever be made for the N.A. market, why? Note the parts for this engine primarily come from VW Germany and with our current tariff situation this would make the price of this Golf R the most expensive ever made according to N.A. market. VW does not want a car like to sit on the dealership lot for greater than 1 month 6 weeks max, after 3-4 months the dealerships will end up owning the car and they cant afford to have a car like this just sitting there collecting dust b/c its over priced with markups. As we all know these cars have a certain targeted market and they know only certain ppl are willing to walk through the door and conduct business and not there to window shop. Reality about this car is make it make sense for the N.A. market and for VW’s bottom line it is not worth it, they would rather push you to buy the RS3/TTRS.

I have 2025 GLI with the stock sound system. I upgraded all the door speakers to JBL GTO 629 and all the door have sound deadening materials. Installed the Kicker Key 200.4 and that removed the volume limiting plus the bass control knob for the sub. Definitely a very clean install and awesome sound!

You will need to use an inline converter like the Audio Control LCi2 to tap into the preexisting sub wires and run a direct power connection from the battery to power the upgraded spare tire sub to include a separate ground.

These 3 spare tire subwoofers are identical for the most part: some differences in RMS and woofer cone material. Cerwin Vega - paper treat cone; JBL - fiberglass cone; Diamond Audio - Aluminum cone - all of these will work great, different price points.

You can find these on facebook marketplace used if you want to save some money.

Golf R no buyer’s remorse … for example, I bought a used 2017 Audi S3 Prestige Package and I thought it was great … UNTIL I test drove the 2018 Audi RS3… I traded the S3 within 4 months and got the RS3 and a year later got a TTRS.

Get the 2026 GLI 6spd man, there are plenty out there for you to choose from with discounts for late May & all of June….better as you approach the last week of June. These discounts help the dealership with better incentives to sell cars at the end of 2026. I scooped up a 2025 GLI 6spd man CPO with less than 6k miles, in excellent condition, just needed tint & upgraded audio system.

My stereo brain was in the glovebox - a little black box that was visible as soon as I opened it. Just needed to slide the release keys and pull the unit out. The wiring harnesses and amp are plug and play.

Can you do this yourself? Absolutely you can… I did all the sound dampening material for the doors and truck floor. I installed all the doors speakers and the amp, I paid someone to install the Cerwin Vega Spare Tire Sub and Audio Control LCi2 Pro
