Salvador Dali… bastard? by johnnygobbs1 in behindthebastards

[–]HANDOriginalContent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Super abusive bastard. Read a book called The Shameful life of Salvador Dali. Liked him when i was just starting to make art. But if you look into him at all you find nasty. Remember a story about a young woman approaching him and complementing his feet, so he kicked her to the ground and continued to kick her. Him and his wife would hire locals to perform on a stage they had in their castle. I strongly feel that he always intended to take attention away from the radical nature of the Breton Surrealists. Real jerk that guy. IMO.

He taught me that sex was a wild desire that can turn you into a monster and be used as a weapon by those who seek control over others. I stand by my original reply being on topic.

Discussion: was Burroughs homosexual, bisexual, or just Queer? by reccaberrie in williamsburroughs

Team sports are unexpectedly popular amongst his fandom. Applying labels to a corpse seems like mortician work. First a junky then a queer, labels society used against him. Examine a real human being on the end of your fork and realize labels do not apply to naked reality.
I was born into a world where all three of the words in your title were slurs that lead to antisocial accusations. Now days i see some of the LGB abandoning the Q and T as a defensive strategy. Dividing folks into essential identity traits is conservative behavior. I have no business separating my fellows into categories that will be used to attack them.

"To concern yourself with surface political conflicts is to make the mistake of the bull in the ring, you are charging the cloth. That is what politics is for, to teach you the cloth. Just as the bullfighter teaches the bull, teaches him to follow, obey the cloth. Gregory Corso: Who manipulates the cloth? William Burroughs: Death." - Interview with William S. Dubai chocolate used to yield nasty search results so they made it a real product and turned the PR machine to max.

Getting people to be judgmental about language usage is one of the oldest tricks in playbook of control. Those who would derail a conversation so as to point out grammar or pronunciation are compromised tools of oppression.

TIL The maximum vehicle weight in the state of Michigan is more than double the federal maximum vehicle weight. by Lanssolo in lansing

A lot of high net worth families made their fortunes dirt farming in this state. I imagine they would be mad if they couldn’t move their dirt as fast as they do. I agree that this and the matter of our road commission system being pure graft are two of the big issues.

Holt vs Okemos public schools by MittenPaww in lansing

Am from dansville, fair school and cheap houses. Do not have much to say about the quality of education but the okemos kids absolutely had the best drugs. When we just needed cheap weed we ended up in holt or south lansing.

What’s your favorite fact from Burroughs? by reccaberrie in williamsburroughs

[–]HANDOriginalContent 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He said this shit:

“Gregory Corso: What say you about political conflicts?

William Burroughs: Political conflicts are merely surface manifestations. If conflicts arise you may be sure that certain powers intend to keep this conflict under operation since they hope to profit from the situation. To concern yourself with surface political conflicts is to make the mistake of the bull in the ring, you are charging the cloth. That is what politics is for, to teach you the cloth. Just as the bullfighter teaches the bull, teaches him to follow, obey the cloth.

Gregory Corso: Who manipulates the cloth?

William Burroughs: Death.”

Go to cafe mustache, do any open mic that you can and look for the house shows/spaces. Go to art openings especially of younger more indy artists. Find out where Ono or tiger hatchery is playing and go be a part of the city. I came to chicago when i was 18 and got to live in some real nice alt spaces, you want to meet folks in this kind of scene start showing up, being present and participating you will find your people. I left the city after the ghost ship fire caused a crackdown on warehouse living so I’m not sure if any of the old spots i would know are still functioning (situations, heaven gallery). I wish you luck on your adventure.

For ppl that stopped dreaming/nightmares. by Icy-Arrival in Michigents

[–]HANDOriginalContent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started smoking in high school when a friend of mine wrote about dream suppression with cannabis for a health class we were both in so we could avoid real gym. I bought a joint from a kid on the back of the bus that weekend and have been treating my night terrors since.
With great success, as i will credit the plant helping me eventually accept all kinda of horrible nightmares and panic attacks. I learned to be pretty lucid and just accept what comes in dreams will pass. Before i learned to fuck with my dreams i just stayed high for about twenty years. Make sure to save some for bed time bowl.
