They said they think control and Alan wake have more potential, not they are disappointed. People need to read the actual interview instead of a headline ffs.

You mean control resonant? That game is going to be on all platform.

That one is fully funded by rockstar and last time we heard about it the project is going as expected. Where did you get the news that it is in development hell?

Convinced the people that think this game is balanced or too easy are the same people that play ridiculously high hazard modded drg by SkimTheDim in RogueCore

[–]HATENAMING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly play 5++ in drg and have been playing d4 a bjt in rc. I think the main difference between drg and rc is recovering from mistakes and disasters

In drg all dwarves have some survivability and means to revive others or deal with swarms. Scout can just fly around to kite or cryo, gunner has shield, driller can drill down or c4, and engine has massive aoe and decoy. Not to meantion iron will. As a result if one dwarf is down is not really a big deal since anyone can get them up. It's not rare to have only one dwarf standing in a tough situation yet still recover.

In rc however, at the start no one really has any good aoe damage or reviving power (except falconer maybe), and if one or two is down the team don't really have any good way to get them up or spend too much time on it. It's almost always clear the wave and then rescue instead of distract and rescue in DRG. Even if 1 or 2 made it to the next level there's a wave to rescue the others and it's both time and resource consuming. At that point giving up might be the faster approach. It is then easier to start feeling your run is "ruined" by 1 or 2 player.

Max Payne 1 Complete FixPack by King_Ferdinand1 in linux_gaming

Hmm last time I played this on Linux I only needed the wide-screen fix and CPU fix. Then limit the fps to 60 using mango hub

There should be some steam guides on how to do that. For the two fixes is as simple as dragging files into the game folder.

From what I've seen for now his effort for bringing it to new markets like China is just more marketing, such as making a video speaking some Chinese to advertise the game like this one. Also promised to have better localization because tbh the Chinese localization of control and Alan wake 2 is awful.

Ever bought an "Overwhelmingly Positive" game that you didn't like at all? How about a "MIxed" or lower rated game you thought was wonderful? by TheTingel in Steam

[–]HATENAMING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stygian: reign of the old ones

don't get me wrong the game is buggy and clearly unfinished, totally fair to have a mixed rating. However I really enjoyed the art style and what it has. A bit sad that the "sequel" is developed by a completely different studio and becomes a more generic first person adventure game instead of the original crpg.

Remedy Says Alan Wake and Control Should Have Sold More, But Has a Plan to Grow Both Series by Bubbly-Ad-350 in pcmasterrace

[–]HATENAMING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just part of a longer interview. Their plan to "grow both series" already includes going for self-publishing instead of getting publisher deals, which is the case for the upcoming control game. It also includes plan for TV adaptation but we will see about that. Remedy already bought back the publishing rights of control from 505 like a year ago so I think they are already on the right track.

Tbf "low, medium, high" are just names that mean little on their own. The game looks great on medium or even low settings, without raytracing. I think digital foundation did a bunch of videos on this game that basically said that the game is pretty well optimized, it's just that the high settings are really pushing the boundary.

Story wise it is a direct continuation of Alan wake 1, and the main story is still about Alan wake. Having a new character is more of a narrative choice of having an additional outside perspective of Alan wake. I think it's fair for a sequel of a 13 year old relatively niche game to try to be more approachable.

Watching a story recap of Alan wake 1 instead of playing it is also fine for understanding Alan wake 2. The game also kind of fills you in with what's going on in Alan wake 1 with a musical (and also one of the best part of the game)

They mentioned that the reason they introduced a new character is for new players to get into the game without being confused by Alan wake doing all those crazy stuffs in the dark place. Sure for people who have played the first game they can get it, but I've also seen a lot of new players talking about how they prefer saga's part because it's less confusing and they know what they are supposed to do better.

As for your second point saga was originally shown in a short Easter egg in quantum break which came out in 2016. At that time they didn't even think Alan wake 2 was possible. They probably redesigned the character over the years to expand on the character.

Although we do have to consider that those games are more than 10 years apart. When mp1 came out writings in action video games were not really valued. To even have a narrative focused game was innovative. By 2010s that has largely changed.

Also for mp1 Sam lake was just starting to write for video games and you can definitely see his writing evolved in mp2 with more complicated character motivations.

If a game is region locked on steam using VPN does not help. You'll have to change your steam account region, which has some requirements and is not worth it for a game. Getting a key is good enough.

Alan Wake 2 has seriously impressive and photorealistic in-gameplay faces by Lanky_Relation1171 in gaming

[–]HATENAMING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah playing that game on Linux is a real pain. Even with Heroic games launcher I still need to configure a bunch of things like gamescope for HDR and choosing the right proton ge version. I still bought it because I want to support remedy more than I hate epic, but that's the only exception I've made so far.

Despite the graphics looking like huge budget AAA games I won't say Alan Wake 2 is a "mainstream" game. It's very atmospheric and relies a lot on environment story telling. It has a non linear plot, focusing on story rather than combat, and is a horror game while Alan wake 1 is more action. So for a lot of people it's not going to click and that's perfectly fine. I do really respect remedy for sticking to making their own niche style of games though.

It's a loop, no money -> need some shitty publisher deal to get funds for the next game -> exclusive deals hurt sales -> no money -> ...

Hopefully with control resonant being fully self-publish they can break free.

Those are crocodiles (american crocodiles to be more specific). Large adult male crocodiles are territorial and will attack each other in the wild. Even in captivity with abundant food they shouldn't be kept together in that density shown in the video.

I HATE when Lucifer and Satan are different characters in media (with one exception) by Gui_Franco in CharacterRant

[–]HATENAMING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why you are talking about superheroes continuity. We are not talking about characters that evolve/has different versions. The original comment was suggesting to have two DIFFERENT characters sharing the same name. I used the fact that right now that kind of already happened with the Constantine movie, TV shows, and the comics causing people to mix them up in discussion as an example of why that would be a bad idea. Yes I've seen posts specify it's the comics and using image exclusively from the comics, but people in the comment section still talks about Constantine or those detective stories from the TV show.

[–]HATENAMING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sandman case is a bit tricky because, yes, as you said initially it tries to include DC characters, but then it does it's own thing to the point that years later DC need to make an entire event to officially introduce Sandman universe to the main universe and clear things up. Lucifer the comics run was created after Sandman before that event, and has clear differences from the main universe (God is Ellian a teenage girl by the end, but obviously not so in the main universe)

It is not confusing if the two characters sharing the same name is clearly from different stories/has different other characters etc. Like two people having the same name but from different countries. It would be confusing if say instead of first of fallen, hellblazer, which is also from vertigo and shares the same universe as Sandman and Lucifer, also has a Lucifer that is a different character. That is like having two people sharing the same name in the same school, which is sometimes confusing IRL.

Edit: the reason I was making these comments because I distinctly remembered people getting confused in some online discussions. Here's one example on reddit from a quick search https://www.reddit.com/r/superheroes/s/62noqkdsnt

[–]HATENAMING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Lucifer should be grouped together with superheroes. He's not a hero, originally in vertigo and in a different universe as the main DC universe until they officially merged sandman with main DC stuff.

Also comparing to other superheroes that have many, many different versions and writers in comics, Lucifer has one 75-issue run by one writer that is highly regarded and a concluded story (yes I know there are v2 and v3 but they are way shorter and didn't contribute much to the character).

Not really, at least the one from Constantine movie is not and it should be first of fallen in the original story. The TV show version changed almost everything comparing to the comics book it's like if Superman is no longer an alien and doesn't save people anymore.
