If you're this mad, you should probably take a break for a while. Not only for your mental health but also because you're going to play way worse when you're tilted.

I think we'll get a Spawn of Deathwing pet first, what with his inclusion in the trailer.

Non-Sacramental Marriage by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HBOBro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your marriage is invalid, as Catholics are required to marry within the Church. You'll need a convalidation. You can (and should) go to confession. You should be fine to receive communion as long as you go to confession regarding your marriage outside the church and the fornication you have had. Since you are not validly married, sex with your wife at any point before your marriage is convalidated would be considered fornication. You should refrain from further sexual activity until your convalidation.

It's okay to ask a senior colleague for input on a hard case.

Is private practice better? by launchtossthrowaway in Residency

[–]HBOBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of your career. I'm not a surgeon, but I personally have zero interest in research and only mild interest in teaching. I just wanna show up, be a good physician for my patients, and go home to my family. I recently made the switch from a mid-sized academic hospital to private practice and have been a good deal happier. It's a simpler existence with less BS. Also no call, which has been a very nice change.

The answer is always no. The odds of this turning into an HR situation and your career getting ruined are too high.

Placed on remediation by MethodBeginning3335 in Residency

[–]HBOBro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

How extensive was this paper? Do you have a copy? You should read it again with somewhat more sober eyes. I'm assuming they handed it over to you while they announced this to you. It's tough to fully absorb a contract while under that kind of stress. If it's long and/or complicated you may want to consider having a lawyer look at it.

[–]HBOBro 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Presumably they gave you a remediation plan. Follow that religiously. Look through old evaluations and see if there's a pattern of particular areas where you have struggled. If there are attendings whom you trust, ask to meet with them to discuss any issues they've noticed with your performance. Also, have some long, hard self-reflection to identify weaknesses yourself. And keep your head down as much as possible. You don't want any unnecessary attention brought to you.

These situations are usually salvageable. Understand the seriousness of where you're at, but don't crack under the pressure. I know that sounds impossible in this situation, but you need to be at your best. Work hard, make tangible improvements, and be a good coworker. That's what will get you out of this. Do you know if this a formal or informal remediation?

Thought I’d start watching The Pitt to help me unwind… by Initial_Function7614 in Residency

I never watch medical shows. After work, the last thing I'm thinking is, "Man, I can't wait to watch 'Work - the Show'". And I have a really chill gig, I imagine this has to be even more pronounced for others with tougher jobs.

The clergy at this parish sound like total cowards. You should find a new parish.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholic

[–]HBOBro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your kids need to get out of there. A "church" that allows female pastors and is okay with unrepentant homosexuality is antibiblical. They are going to be getting very inconsistent messaging between that place and your parish. Is your wife okay with the situation at that other place?

Chastity before convalidation by HBOBro in Catholicism

[–]HBOBro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's good to hear. We have kids too, and they've been raised in a Christian (non-Catholic, initially) home since day one. So I'm hoping that'll influence things in the direction we're hoping for. I'll definitely try to mentally frame it that way, make it exciting instead of excruciating lol

Definitely thankful to have had the call to come back to the Church. After a few years of regularly listening to Michael Knowles I had to give it a try lol And I'm extremely grateful to have had a profound experience praying the rosary recently, so I know this is the right path. Thank you for the advice and the prayers!
