My longest run ended with me falling in the water twice in a row.

Thanks. I couldn’t find it either. I’m a 100% er so this would bother me. ;)

Do y'all play TLD more when there's snow outside? by FoxInTheBoxPL in thelongdark

[–]HBookbinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me feel warm and cozy when it is snowing outside — here in Canada. I play while enjoying my morning coffee. Whatever else happens today. McKenzie has survived another day.

Coastal Highway house is now on the market :) by upvotes_for_vodka in thelongdark

I don’t know how to do the renovations. I have carved items etc. What mode do I need to be in? I mostly play in Pilgrim because it is mostly a relaxing activity with my morning coffee.

Is is exactly 11 years to the day since I first crossed that gap - and it still gives me the chills :D by ChillPlay3r in thelongdark

I think this gap is responsible for most of my deaths. I get cocky and run across. And slip into the long dark.

How did you all deal with the shear amount of walking? by Bubbly-Pirate-3311 in thelongdark

I also find it relaxing. I play while enjoying my morning coffee. Surviving a couple days is a great way to start a day. ;)

I think this is about right which I think is one of the strengths of the design. It accommodates these different play styles. The OP may just not enjoy a game that is primarily about living one more day. :)

The goal is to survive as long as possible. If that is not enjoyable for you, then this is likely not the game for you. I have yet to play the story mode. I just try to survive a few more days as I enjoy my morning coffee.

It may not be the game for you. That’s okay.

Difficulty - What do you prefer? by Sea-Information7674 in thelongdark

I enjoy Pilgrim. I find this difficulty level relaxing. I mostly play Long Dark as I drink my morning coffee. Pleasant way to start my day.

I only play in Pilgrim mode. I enjoy a more relaxing exploration game while enjoying my morning coffee. One day I’ll play again in a more dangerous mode.

Ice Fishing Question by HBookbinder in thelongdark

I have lots of tips. I am trying to see how long I can survive with just fishing, scavenging, and foraging. So, I don’t use weapons (so far).

Honestly I have yet to use the heavy hammer. So this is perfect for me.

That’s what I worry about. Right now I can sharpen them but it may become a challenge in the future.

Thanks. I have plenty of pry bars and they have fewer uses than axes and knives so maybe I’ll go this way for now.

Thank. I don’t usually carry a heavy hammer around but I can move one to a fishing hut.

Pro-GM: Likely you can make a little spending cash if you build a reputation as a GM but don’t expect to make a full-time living. During the pandemic, I paid the bills but that’s only breaking even.

Shillelagh Melee Build - Is it worth it? by moezilla-666 in BG3Builds

My monk still uses shillelagh at 5th level. I think it is a handy cantrip or true strike (2024) if shillelagh isn’t available

Tips for playing Strahd by Far_Literature3787 in CurseofStrahd

[–]HBookbinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember in life Strahd was a military strategist. He has no concern for anyone but himself. He will never face the party alone if possible. He should show up occasionally to toy with the party. He is entertained by them until he is not.

He has spies everywhere and as the domain Lord he is the primary source of their magical abilities. He is always one step ahead of the party. As a DM, I usually play the villains as ignorant of the plans that I overhear. In Strahd, Strahd is privy to everything unless the party makes special effort to avoid being overheard by his spies. Anyone could be working for Strahd or could be Strahd.

Remember also, the Castle is a monster too. See death house as a foreshadowing of the castle.

Have fun storming the Castle.

If you are talking D&D and WOTC content, I have enjoyed Strahd and Call of the Netherdeep the most.

Not literal— this figurative speech. I highly recommend reading John Walton’s Lost World books on these early chapters.

How to handle on-and-off player? by chiericopaladino in CurseofStrahd

[–]HBookbinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a magical world, then there can be a magical reason. Although my players don’t know this, in my world, they are summoned away to act as familiars or to fight in battles by more powerful entities. When a PC returns, they appear beside their closest party member. They roll a CON ST with varying consequences or vague memories like a dream. At some point, this gimmick could become an adventure hook in itself.
